A six-pack a day keeps the doctor away

"Drinking a bottle of wine a day, or half a dozen beers, cuts the risk of heart disease by more than half in men, it has been shown. In one of the largest studies of the link between alcohol and heart disease, researchers have found that the protective effects of a daily tipple are not limited to those who drink moderately but also extend to those who consume at what are conventionally considered to be dangerously high levels."
Cheers, folks!

I think science will one day show how different our bodies are. For some, alcohol is a stress reducer. For others, it is an uncontrollable demon that tears at the fabric of society and kills in a multitude of ways.

Indeed. I was hoping to find a picture comparing the brains of a heavy drinker (considerably shrunk and with a lot of black on the surface due to necrosis of brain cells) with that of a non-drinker (healthy and normal) as the one in my French medical dictionary, without success. The comparison is just as scary as the one between those two baby brains.

Heavy alcoholics build up a natural opiate on their brains, which does look pretty weird, and causes the physical addiction. At least that's what I was taught in my undergrad.

Not a nice thing to do to your child. Yes, this would definately exclude during pregnancy.
But brewer's beer to help with 'let' down for breast feeders was recommended to me by my OB/GYNE after my first baby. He said to drink the beer while feeding my son, but it had to be NATURAL beer.
That's easier now than it was back then, most commercial beers were artifical garbage then.
My motto is 'everything in moderation'. - 3 months ago

It's very simple: Don't let your baby drink. And what are you doing taking the brains out of babies skulls anyway? They need those to be annoying in public places in the presence of people who were smart enough to pull-out.

BlowOutYourBlood - these are pictures of the brains of very young babies - the picture on the left is the brain of a baby whose mother did not drink alcohol during her pregnancy, the one on the right is the brain of a baby whose mother drank a lot of alcohol during her pregnancy, i.e. the damage was done to the developing embryo and fetus during the pregnancy.
Such brains are taken out of babies who died for whatever reason, and whose parents gave permission for using the organs of their dead babies for medical research and teaching.

On the other hand, a bottle of wine or six beers a day often cause cirrhosis of the liver, and kill that way.
Then there are the countless road deaths of non-alcohol-drinking or sober people caused by those who drink a bottle of wine or six beers a day.

Stick to a glass of wine, no beer belly that way. Will this now replace the aspirin as the best defense against heart attacks?

Someone might want to look into who funded this research. Could it possibly be a alcohol company? If people really knew who funds a lot of the research that atcually makes it to our eyes and ears you might think twice before listening to it. Seeing it usually changes and flips flops back and fourth. It bad one day great the next.

I'd love to see someone actually do this, I'm sure they would live forever...
"The long term effects of alcohol in excessive quantities is capable of damaging nearly every organ and system in the body. Regularly consuming alcohol is correlated with an increased risk of developing alcoholism, cardiovascular disease, malabsorption, chronic pancreatitis, alcoholic liver disease, and cancer. Damage to the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system can occur from sustained alcohol consumption."

This would be great if it wasn't for cirrhosis. Your choice people: Heart failure or liver failure. So...moderation? (except on weekends, my liver has to pull his on weight at least 2 nights a week)
