SELLING OUT TO SLAUGHTER - AMERICA'S WILDLIFE HERITAGEA major roundup of an estimated 2,500 wild mustangs in Northern Nevada set for Monday has protesters calling for Congress to step in.
Monday's planned roundup is part of an overall strategy to remove as many as 25,000 mustangs from PUBLIC lands across the West.
Wild horse advocates gathered outside the entrance of Red Rock Canyon, managed by Bureau of Land Management, on the eve of the roundup to make their voices heard.
Their efforts follow a plea from singer Sheryl Crow, who has reached out to President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Crow is among many horse defenders trying to block Monday's roundup.
Opponents argue that many of the horses could be injured or even die during the commute by helicopter during icy winter conditions.
"They're going to hurt and kill the horses, and then pen them up for no good reason," said Arlene Gawne, who helped organized Sunday's protest.
Gawne says the roundup process is NOT ONLY INHUMANE but is costing the taxpayers of Nevada MILLIONS of dollars.
She believes our state could profit by what many see as an icon of the wild west.
"Why isn't Obama having the BLM see what they can do to create jobs and have wild horse sanctuaries and build a wild horse safari industry," added Gawne.
The estimated 2,500 horses expected to be rounded up from the Calico Mountains Complex in Northern Nevada will be headed to 'long-term holding facilities' in the Midwest. (NOTE: "long term holding facilities" - where they are cruelly imprisoned until AUCTION DAY. Sold to the highest bidder, then shipped to Mexico, Canada... to a slaughterhouse for human consumption.)
Nevada's wildlife agency stands behind their roundup, also saying that much of the horses' food supply is running out and affecting AFFECTING surrounding wildlife.

These "wild horses" really should have never been here in the first place, since they actually were brought over quite recently by the Europeans. They fuck up the ecosystem for native species and need to all be rounded up and shipped far far away.

blkblk13:
Do you work for the BLM too ? There is no proof they do anything to the ecosystems . There is suspicion that they use resources the cattle ranchers want for their cattle , that grazes for free on public land . This has also be proven false . This is about the hoarding of resources by corporate powers . Things that do not profit have no right to live mentality . Are you one of them ?

Mexico,Canada...MIAMI!!
December 28, 2009 4:05 p.m. EST Miami, Florida (CNN) -- Freedom's Flight is a beautiful thoroughbred with an impressive pedigree. His bloodlines can be traced to two of the greatest race horses of all time, Seattle Slew and Secretariat.
But, unlike his kinship, Freedom's Flight's racing career ended before it had even started. It was almost two years ago when the thoroughbred's leg snapped right out of the gate at Miami's Gulfstream race track. The animal's days as a cherished racehorse came to an abrupt end.
"He came from the famous Clairborne farm and ended up on one of the worst farms in America," says new owner Richard "Kudo" Couto.
That "worst" farm in America turned out to be an illegal slaughter farm in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Couto, working for the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, participated in a raid on the farm and rescued Freedom's Flight. The timing of that rescue may have saved Freedom's Flight's life. The horse was limping around on his broken leg, he had sores on his body, and you could see his bones protruding from his dirty coat.
Some 18 months since his rescue, Freedom's Flight looks more like the stunning race horse that was worth thousands of dollars than the injured horse that was sold for $50 to an illegal slaughter farm.
"Prior to his rescue, I didn't know that illegal slaughter farms existed in the country -- let alone under my nose in my own county," says Couto...

But Harry Reid got his 'healthcare' bill passed. That is all that matters to him. This is tragic and inhumane. Is there a specific place I could send a comment to that might actually do some good in stopping this?
