Well to me it looks like Samsung is trying to say too much here. It would have been a better challenge if we could talk about one of the three talking points instead of cramming all 3 into a :30 spot. I think their marketing department needs to go to advertising school. They are going to wonder why all the commercials that get submitted are going to be confused, disorganized, and not conceptual, well that's the reason. Next time, when you write the brief, give us ONE main point to talk about. Are you guys with me?

Thanks surfsnine, with Labor Day weekend we didn't have someone in the office to monitor uploads and send out confirmations. I just checked all of the uploads to come in so far and made sure they were successful; yours went fine, and I just sent out your email.
Everyone else, you should receive an email within 24 hours of your upload confirming receipt. If you have reason to believe that your upload did not work (i.e. you can't see it in the "My Activity" feed on your Current.com profile page), email us at vcam@current.com as soon as you can.
Good luck!

I agree with surfsnine. I uploaded mine last week and I would also like confirmation so I know that my video is entered in the competition. Thanks :)

Thanks for the clarification! I will take your advice and just use Samsung's endtag. Thanks again :)

hi,
i was thinking if we could use free sounds (like car crashing, crowd, airplanes etc) provided from Apple's Soundtrack pro for our VCAM? will it be against the copyright policy? - 1 year ago

Thanks for asking! Yes, sounds from that music library are fine to include in your VCAM.

The Galaxy S phone images that you include in the downloadable files are not of a phone that is released in the US. As you know, the US gets the Vibrant, Captivate, Epic, and Fascinate -- all of which look different than the original Galaxy S that was released overseas and that appears in your approved downloadable files. My question is, what exactly are we advertising? The four US Galaxy S phones or just the European Galaxy S phone? If we are advertising for the US phones, can you please include downloads for the other phones as well so I can include them in an endscreen?

You clearly have done your research!! This assignment is sponsored by Samsung Mobile Global, the corporate headquarters for Samsung in Korea. They have a separate US marketing division, however we are working directly with the client in Korea. They are thinking about the entire line of Samsung GALAXY S products, no matter the carrier. Therefore, the assets that we provided are based on the global model that is carrier agnostic. This version of the product doesn't exist in the US. If you happen to get your hands on a US version of the phone (Vibrant, Captivate, etc.), you should feel free to use it in your VCAM. However, the endtag is the just the Samsung logo and jingle -- you don't need to include any image of the phone in the endtag if you don't want to.

Thanks for the quick and thorough response :) One more question, is the ad going to run in the US only or internationally? Because if it is only going to run in the US, then I would like to make an endscreen that pictures all four versions of the US Galaxy S phones in order to clarify for the general public that the Galaxy S is a lineup of phones with the same guts, but slightly different bodies. If it is okay to include pics of all four versions, then can I use the phone images from Samsung's website?

It is very possible that these VCAMs will run internationally. If I were you, I wouldn't concentrate so much on the endscreen. Samsung provided the 2-3 second endtag that they want included in these VCAMs. Also, please do not include any phone images that you pull off Samsung's website. Only use images that you fully own the rights to (i.e. you took the picture) or that we've provided in the download section of this assignment.

are we allowed to create and animate a digital model of the phone in lieu of using an actual phone? Without showing specific features being used, of course

Yes! Animations, whether digital, drawn, stop-motion etc. are definitely allowed. Be creative. As long as you don't use any source images besides the ones we give you or photos you take of the actual phone (nothing from other sites that has copyrights you don't own), go for it! Make sure to describe how the GALAXY S is fast, can multi-task, and has a great HD display as outlined in the assignment, but other than that it's up to you how this plays out visually. Maybe you don't even see the phone in the spot, just describe and show what it can do. Thanks for asking, and good luck!

Also, can we show the function of the different apps as they are used? ie what pops up on the screen when they are activated, weather, etc.

theusurpking:
Good question. The focus of your VCAM should be on the phone itself: it's fast and intuitive, has a beautiful screen, and has full multitasking capability. You shouldn't focus your VCAM on the apps. You can mention and show the logos of the preinstalled features (e.g. Google Maps), but you should not show the function of these (or any other) apps due to potential rights issues. Makes sense?

Is there anyway to get graphics or clips from Samsung that we can include in our ads?

Please upload your VCAM to http://current.com/galaxys. If your VCAM is selected by the sponsor, we will contact you and you'll send us the media. Does that answer your question?

TIP: If you're able to get your hands on one of the US GALAXY S phones (Vibrant on T-Mobile, Fascinate on Verizon, Epic 4G on Sprint, or Captivate on AT&T) -- you can use these phones in your VCAM!
