In "Sausages," a motley group of volunteers takes part in the process of turning pigs into sausages, from field to fork. Farmers illustrate the differences between how pigs are raised on small, local farms and the massive, industrial pork processing centers that supply greater quantities of cheaper meat. When it comes time to slaughter the animals for dinner, some of the participants may find the pigs’ human-like skin and personable demeanor too much to bear. At the dinner table, the group samples their fresh-made sausages alongside mass produced ones, and debate whether or not the better quality entrée is worth the considerably higher price.

RAISED ON A FARM IN NORTH CAROLINA, THIS IS SOMETHING WE DID EVERY WINTER. MOST OF THE FOOD WE ATE EITHER CAME FROM THE GROUND OR FROM THE FARM ANIMALS.
