    • FIrst, millions of babies are born every year without a definite gender- either by ambiguous genitalia, or chromosomal diferences, hormonal imbalances, or by being transgendered.

Second, that is NOT what the parents were saying.
The parents were NOT suggesting that the child makes up their mind what biological sex it is, they are pointing out that society puts artificial pressures to conform to gender norms.

When a baby is a girl, we buy her dolls, put her in little dresses, and decorate her room with pink and lace and disney princesses.

When a baby is a boy, we get him Bob the Builder, Tonka Trucks, dress him in little denim overalls or a sailor suit, and decorate his room in blue with baseballs and footballs.

Society pressures children to conform to artificial gender roles.

Instead, we should just buy the kid a teddy bear and Lego blocks, dress them in T-shirts and shorts, and decorate the room on green and orange.

... until the kid is old enough to pick their own toys and interior decor.
