Greta Christina of Alternet posted an article today about the harm unrealistic expectations of masculinity hurts men. I wrote an article many years ago and sent it to Marcus Allen one of the leaders of the mens movement stateing the same premise that patriarchy hurts men. My paper laid out many of the things Greta's article does only 15 years ago. Mr. Allen said I had nailed it and he would undoubtedly appreciate Ms. Christina's article.

Perhaps more disturbing has been the rise among women of male stress diseases and attitudes that are hyper-masculine. If you can't beat 'em join em? Are we all becoming "dudes"? In jest my fellow actors in college gave me the "Man of the Year" award due to my somewhat forceful nature. This can be seen as a good thing, but the bullying and violent attitudes of some key female Republican and one key female democrat could be seen as buying into the culture of hypermasculinity with comments like "...can borrow a pair of mine" and "...asserting my second amendment rights". Where is the mens movement? In response to this cultural development?
