Why Does Our Produce Suck?

f you had asked me that question 15 years ago I would have said, who cares. I didn’t eat much in the way of vegetables. You’d be lucky to see me eat a potato or have a salad. Most of that changed when I met my wife who was practically a vegan when we met and today I have to ask what happened to the quality of our produce.

    • That was my point schnokums. I am supporting the local growers, but the quality of what they're providing is garbage. The organic produce from the local farmer's markets is worse is worse than the big chains which isn't that great compared to what it used to be.

    • It depends on what you want and when you want it (and to some extent, where you live in the country). Out of season foods mean they have to travel from somewhere, which usually means chemically treated to preserve. Fruits and vegetables are now chosen based on how aesthetically pleasing it is, not how it tastes (think tomatoes). Seeking out and supporting your local growers is the best way to improve the quality of what is available to your community.
