Woden learned the secret of the runes after sacrificing himself to himself. The Scandinavian rune alphabet is called the futhark or fuþark, The Anglo-Saxon one is known as the Futhorc or Fuþorc.
This music video shows ancient rune stones from Sweden and Britain. All of them were carved between the 7th and 11th century.
