    • The discussion of what one believes about someones psyche should not be a part of whether one believes in civil rights. A lot of civil rights doesn't have so much to do with a persons' belief system, but with basic rights to live, work, and play without being denied the right to be with people you like, earn the same wages as someone else doing the same job, worship the way you choose, and being provided basic human needs - food, water, health, shelter, comfort. The bottom line is... when all the basic needs are provided for, the questions that separate us won't be a problem. When you hear someone speak against something, it almost always is accompanied by a fear of some sort... "they'll take my job, they'll take my health, they'll hurt the people I love."

It's time to focus first on relief... then we can expect the fears to subside. Much of historical change has been done by a change in society's viewpoint helped along by the facts of real relief. When proper public health measures were put in place during large outbreaks, people depended less on the fearmongering rumors and innuendoes.

    • That's true...while I find it sad that basic civil rights are still being debated like this and not just implemented fully, at least they're talking about it. Which is a helluvalot more than you ever would have expected ten years ago.

    • Despite the missteps, I'm glad that this meeting happen. It is some kind of progress that people are talking about it. I thought Barack performed somewhat weakly out of the top three, while of course Bill Richardson's comment just make me cringe. I've always respected Richardson's international diplomatic work, but no social policy from this man, please.

    • Hmm...separate but equal. I wonder where I've heard that before. Kucinich and Gravel are the only two with the cojones to sing the truth about the concept of equality when it comes to the marriage issue: that to prohibit gay couples from marrying is the same as saying they're not equal to straight people. The other candidates can carefully phrase it any way they want but you just can't get around the truth.
