The Pirate Party of the United States announced its intention to register as a political body in Utah, its first move into American state politics. The fledgling Utah operation is now accepting "statements of support," needing 200 voter signatures for official registration. They say they're not "really pirates" ...duh.

Apparently the Pirate Party is a not-totally-insignificant political force in its native Sweden. It's affiliated with -- inspired by? -- the guys behind The Pirate Bay, one of the world's biggest free public BitTorrent trackers.
