Sweden's poignant example of amnesty should resonate with the global community. I was already impressed with Sweden's political liberalism and progression and this only ramifies it. How is it permissible that the United States the nation responsible for the Iraqi invasion and the subsequent disarray of that nation, has only received 1,000 Iraqi refugees? And that the town of Sondertalje has taken in 20,000? Hopefully under an Obama Administration strides will be taken towards handling Iraqi refugees. An amazing pod. Peace.

Thank you Current for airing this story. Both the Swedes and Iraqis in this pod are an inspiration to our sense of responsibility for and to one another - as fellow humans. Tak!

Beyond just accepting so many immigrants/refugees, Sweden as a nation has taken an interest in helping to rebuild Iraq. In this document they lay out their case for their humanitarian support to its citizenry..

What do refugees bring to their host country? In this story, many Iraqis settling in Sweden have the desire to give back to their new home. How much responsibility should countries such as Sweden have in hosting refugees from around the world?
