    • Interesting how out of the entire speech the only focus on Current is on his remarks about homosexuality.

Suddenly the Western liberal commentariat is also so concerned with women's rights in Iran, although when Iran had a more pro-Western president this was never an issue. In fact, when Iran has a 'reforming ' president the press were keen to emphasise how irrelevant the position of president is Iran.

Since Ahmadinejab's election, Iran is now portrayed a s a country of absolutist rule by dictator-in-chief.

All this is part of a subtle ideological war to paint Iran as uniquely irrational and evil, therefore ripe for bombing and de-democratisation.

    • The TIME article mentions Ahmadinejad as both noteworthy and effective. What are YOUR opinions on his presidency, and the lives of women in Iran?
