    • I agree that Americans deserve more protection. Many Americans will never forget their strugles of this decade and of tragedies like hurricane Katrina.

    • Gore has it right on this one. Americans should in no way accept the kinds of constitutional violations that have occurred in recent years. The patriot act delivers a striking blow to the 4th amendment in the name of terrorism. We need to wake up and realize that the government doesn’t know what’s best for us, and the only one looking out for you is yourself.

nothing wrong with that but im just saying

but really if you ask a terrorist if you can wire tap their phone i think a majority of them would not talk about their next hit on that phone line
you gotta look at both sides of it

    • I disagree with your post about government eavesdropping. I feel that if it protects the lives of Americans in the long run, then it's worth giving up some Freedom. As long as you're not doing anything wrong, the government won't be after you. I personally support Government Eavesdropping due to the fact that in this day and age, ANYONE could be a terrorist. It's not like every single phone call is being monitored, it's only ones that are suspicious and deserve to be looked at.

    • I agree with you we should have the right to have are own privacy. They need search warrant to do anything else but not for that. That is invading privacy for everyone else. Just because some people do that don’t mean that we all should get punished for it! They should have to have a reason to do it and a good on not some made up stuff.

I agree with your post about government eavesdropping because I feel we need more protection from the government. They keep crossing the line and we let them and its time to stop. The police need warrants just to look in a house or car they know for a fact has drugs in it! So how do they get away with listening to our ever word? It’s a complete and total invasion of privacy. I also agree that we need better laws against this stuff.

    • I agree with your opinion on government eavesdropping. In the government’s attempt to keep the world under control, they are starting with us and working their way out. In my opinion, our pursuit of happiness is being stomped on. They want to make themselves happy by keeping terrorist attacks out. Fine, but when they start listening in on our calls, reading our e-mails, or anything else, there is a very good chance that something will be taken out of context or something along those lines. This will result in that person being suspicious of their own government at all times, or maybe people will lose business because they get a bad reputation from being put on a terrorist list for what turns out to be a stupid reason. Bad stuff happens through eavesdropping and when it’s the government, then those things are likely to be big.

    • I disagree that the government should have to obey the constitution in this matter. I think the government should be able to listen to the conversations that people are having just so we can make sure a huge incident like 9/11 never happens again. If we listen to the conversations and find out information we can possibly save so many lives that way and i think we should do this to protect the people.

Oh no! It's the dreaded "look at Al Gore's Carbon Footprint" argument.

It seems that about every 20 or 30 posts to this pod there comes a simpleton to argue the same thing.

Wow! Is that how Neo-Cons think? Do they arrive at their illogical political conclusions because they are incapable of critical thought or is it their Faux Conservative ideology that gives these fiscal liberals the courage to make idiotic statements?

You sound like a guy who would chastise Paul Revere for his midnight ride to warn the colonists of the arrival of British troops because he should have been kinder to his horse and allowed it to get a good night's sleep.

Personally, my opinion is that Mr. Gore needs to fly a bunch more places to warn of the "Scorched Earth" policy of the Bush Administration and the perils of not addressing global climate change.

You Maroon, his trips to the four corners of the world to act as a spokesperson who is direly needed to convince both leaders and citizens to REDUCE their emissions should be applauded, not ridiculed in your "Lush Rimbaugh-like idiocy" and nonsensical harassment,

So every 20 or 30 posts we must listen to some cretin suggest that Al Gore live in a shack and walk to conferences in some SYMBOLIC tribute to warning the world of impending climate change.

Go back to listening to "Lush". He needs SOMEBODY who can hear what he is saying since he doped himself up so much on Oxycontin it caused him to go deaf.

You keep listening to those self-righteous slobs who inhabit Radio Rightyland and DO please vote to KEEP those in office who have ruined the economy, sent gas prices over $3 a gallon, sent the dollar into a tailspin, shipped good jobs overseas, pandered to people like Enron and WorldCom and Bear Stearns, dirtied the air by extending pollution deadlines, attacked a country with falsified CIA "evidence" and STILL "don't think much about Bin Laden."

Pal, you need a guardian to handle things for you with such a skewed understanding of the world.

I'll ask you a question that oozes of the same Neo-Con logic that was so eloquently asked in your post: Why didn't Bush just go get Saddam himself and leave all of our troops out of it?

The sad thing is that there are people like you who think Lush Rimbaugh is smart and that makes cowboys like Dubya look to be at near-genius level when compared to your own simple world view.

    • well said Mr. Gore and I completely agree with your point. However, I question your motivations. We ALL know that one of the smartest career choices you have made is to disassociate yourself from the Clinton's..more or less. I also feel you haven't touched the main issue here...which is the vigilance of the People. The longer citizens remain lullabied by corporacrats, the farther and farther we will drift from the most important doctrines our country knows..Our Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and The Bill of Rights. The corporacrat version of "our" protection should not come in the form us looking down the barrels of their rifles...but rather them looking down the barrels of the peoples rifles. WHY? because The Bill of Rights says so!

and for those that say we don't have a candidate that talks about these issues...his name is Dr. Ron Paul! Well...that's only if you still think ballots actually matter anyway.

    • Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives FINALLY stood up to the constant bullying of the Executive Branch and voted NOT to renew the extension to the Protect America Act, a.k.a. the "telecom immunity cave-In".

We need to write each of them and tell them we not only appreciate their courage but that we demand that they coninue to exercise it ESPECIALLY after a COWARDLY Senate (supposedly made up of close to a 50/50 ratio of Democrats to Republicans) caved in to this the Bush bullying by an almost incomprehensible margin of 68 to 29 !!!!!

Ever notice that these Neo-Con/Fascist hatched bills that threaten the very fabric of our Constitution ALWAYS have bogus names that obscure their true scope and intent?

The "Protect America Act" my foot.

Hooray for the House! They did not vote to give the telecom giants immunity by extending the falsely-named Protect America Act.

If you haven't written your own Senator who has a almost a 70% chance of having supported this FASCIST extension of the a FISA amendment that grants immunity to telecom companies from illegal activity, you are not doing your job as a citizen who believes in the rights we've been granted in the constitution.

Here is a link to the Senate's CAVE IN vote:

      http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?con...

I encourage you to find your SenatorS and tell them you don't appreciate their endorsing illegal activities by granting immunity ESPECIALLY without an investigation into exactly what the wiretapping activity involved and how it targeted any American ciotizens.

The fact that there was no investigation UNDER OATH of a a runaway President that thinks he is above the law, is all the more reason to strongly protest their votes. Also, the three Senators who did not vote should be severely chastised for not taking a stance on such an important measure.

Please help us not only show our support for a courageous House but also SHAME those Senators who voted for Telecom immunity all the way up to West Virginia Democrat Jay Rockefeller, Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, one of the original protestors of the illegal wiretapping who was kept "out of the loop" as the rnking Democrat on the committee back when Bush and Gonzales first scoffed at the FISA law.

I would like to see Al Gore use our extra day to promote the Constitution in a way that draws attention from mainstream media. Americans need to be reminded how important our Constitution is. • I don't think we need stronger laws. I think we need a strong Judiciary branch that will enforce the U.S. constitution. I think the proper role of the Legislative branch, and of the Senate under the U.S. constitution, is to impeach the President when he repeatedly exceeds his authority and defies the other branches of the U.S. government. Do we wait until he decides to declare martial law?

There is no one else running who resonates with my sense of the direction the country needs to move as you do. But I understand that you feel that climate change is where you need to put your energy at this time. And I am so grateful for your efforts, as are global citizens across the world. Hoping that you will run in 2012. We will need a truly great leader to cross that ominous threshold.

    • I fear we are in the midst of a Constitutional crisis. We need more politicians who will make telling the truth their political platforms.

Perhaps to help us restore our Constitutional values we need to have a comprehensive package that not only strengthens laws protecting individual privacy, it should provide a national shield law for journalists and increased protection for whistle blowers. Government is being controlled by big money interests more and more who don't think twice about hiding their disgusting motives behind the honor and integrity of what government should represent; of the people, by the people and for the people.

We also need to restore the Judiciary branch of the government to where it is not populated with Federalists who favor an almost Imperialistic Executive Branch of the government.

    • The culprits that allow and that are behind this unprecedented, extraordinary obstruction and violation of Justice? The Patriot Act along with its partner the Homeland Security Act. This was legislation that was written long before 9/11 and it was presented to Congress before 9/11.

At that time, most of Congress was shocked and appalled at the the blatent and intentional violations of the law that both of these treacherous Acts contained and these Acts of injustice did not get far.

(Who wrote this legislation anyway? Have you read it? If you do, your in for a real surprise).

Then 9/11.... and low and behold, lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment, our two partners Act 1 and Act II the 'saviors'. Congress was still very aprenhesive, however, fear overruled sound judgement. Now we live with treason and injustice, cloaked within the hidden shadow of fear. The Judiciary failed at its sole purpose when these 2 pieces of Tyranny passed.

Now the only thing that the Congress or the Judiciary or whoever it is, are now only interetsed in and only concerned with, violating our privacy, they do not ask for our opinion's or respect our vote or Proctect and defend the Constitution, which is their sworn duty.

Where is the Judiciary who's duty and purpose is to fight this gross obstrution of Justice this pathetic insult to our Country? What has happened to this 'The land of the Free? Where is the home of the Brave?

The avenues in place to contend with this injustice, where are they?, ohhh say can you see, your guess is as good as mine.

The most ironic part of the whole story, the purpose of this legislation is to protect us from incidents like 9/11, and it is just as strange that the sequence of events leading to 9/11, were reported to local police the FBI and the CIA by Americans just like you and me concerned with suspicious activity, reported in a continous manner, basically laid in the lap of those whose duty and job is to protect us, conveniently ignored. Just as our cries of injustice go ignored.

I am not giving up on you but I am switching some energy to impeachment. Other than your administration, I truly do not trust that the next president, whoever it is would restore our democracy by enforcing our rule of law on the criminal conduct perpetrated by this administration. Please, if it looks like it will be a close election and will be stolen, please please reconcider. We are all still ready to go and will be there for you now and in the future. But King George is quickly taking our rights away right before our eyes. We need to stop this fascist shill before we're locked up with no trial in some dark, lonely dungeon and lose our nation to the neo-cons. I am from the UK and have seen over seventy years the many many changes that have taken place in your great country.Like the rest of the REST OF THE WORLD I regarded it as the land of the free. Bush has over the last two terms has done more harm than any other person in the whole history USof A.
World domination is all he cares for,a glory boy, but what glory has he acheived himself apart from being a reformed druggie, drunk and complete waster. I believe millions of americans bitterly regret re-electing him to that great office.
The next holder of the Office has a task that will be harder than any other president has ever had and that is to restablish the good name of America.

    • We need more prominent people telling the truth. Thanks to Al Gore for saying it. The only presidential candidate calling for impeachment hearings is Dennis Kucinich, and the rest of the field didn't even acknowledge that he spoke, much less to agree or disagree with him.

Meanwhile, today, Veteran's Day, there's a story reported by the AP which says that Americans must re-think privacy, and goes on to days "Privacy no longer can mean anonymity," says Donald Kerr, the principal deputy director of national intelligence. "Instead, it should mean that government and businesses properly safeguards people's private communications and financial information."

I guess I missed that part in the Constitution. Especially when the government isn't even doing it's part to safeguard me when, as the AP also reported today, "Lawmakers hastily changed the 1978 law last summer to allow the government to eavesdrop inside the United States without court permission, so long as one end of the conversation was reasonably believed to be located outside the U.S."

For those who don't know about this, this is part of the "Protect America Act" -- they always have such paternal sounding names. In August 2007, President Bush signed the Protect America Act of 2007. The measure amended FISA to allow intelligence agencies to monitor communications that begin or end in a foreign country without FISA Court supervision. It's the part where there is no court supervison that we get into Constitutional trouble.

As the story by Pamela Hess also reports, "The original law required a court order for any surveillance conducted on U.S. soil, to protect Americans' privacy. The White House argued that the law was obstructing intelligence gathering."

Court orders are pesky little things, aren't they? Except that in the law that created FISA in 1978. it gave intelligenge agents up to 72 hours to obtain a warrant from the secret FISA court at the Justice Department to conduct wiretaps or monitor communications - 72 hours after they had already started! Can police do that normally? No, at least not the ones you see on Law & Order.

So, is a 72 hour RETROACTIVE warrant really THAT inconvenient? COME ON CONGRESS, GROW A SPINE! The Amendments to FISA expire in February. Contact your Reps in the House and your Senators and tell them to FIX FISA and not to renew the so-called "Protect American Act." If we want to "protect America" we must first protect its Constitution.
While you're at it, tell them no immunity for telecommunications companies!

Wait a minute...didn't we vote every member of Congress into office, to represent us? Are they not our representatives?

I truly trust many of my Democratic officials and I think they are genuinely in fear of what they will do to the country if backed into a corner. Unfortunately, I fear the plans are already in the works and they must be stopped and removed from office immediately! They have committed war crimes, treason and cover-ups not to mention untold hundreds of other small crimes and rule breaking. Please, Mr. Gore announce your presidency to shake up the status quo and help to convince our Democratic leaders that, as another great leader once said, “there is nothing to fear but fear itself". I do not see any one of our leaders currently in power having the gravitas and clear vision that you will bring to the fight for our democracy. Please Please Please Please!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Dear Mr. President, :)

Please reclaim your duly elected position and stop this nightmare! Two trusted Democrats are now poised to allow a man that lied to congress, doesn't know torture when he sees it and is openly protecting Bush and Cheney from being charged with war crimes (among others), to be the head of our Justice Dept. The Department has already been compromised and I fear this appointment will make it irreparable.

In addition the democratic front runner has voted to give this administration all it needs to bomb Iran which I am truly afraid will lead to the ultimate plan. It seems clear that this administration does not believe in this form of government and have toiled to destroy it from within. The lack of concern about their own parties’ elections is troubling. The person currently holding the office of President now has the authorization to declare martial law across the country without Governor approval. I fear the plan goes like this.... drop a bomb on Iran, declare martial law for our own protection, delay elections, people protest, leaders are arrested as enemy combatants - non-person ---- 1984 was not a play book!!!

I have been out collecting ballot signatures for the MassDraftGore group and I also travel around the East Coast for work and my Gore 08 button gets lots of positive attention. I am sorry however to tell you that others, without my prompting, have also expressed a concern about there not being elections in 2008. I don’t thinK this would be possible if you were running and if it were tried, I believe you would not allow it under any circumstances.

Please, we have done a phenomenal job in organizing and using the tools your important document "Assault on Reason", the internet and our laws have provided. I fear a longer and deeper malaise will grip the populous than after the 2000 and 2004 elections. I don't think a grass movement like this will be possible again for a long time to come as the spirit of the volunteers that used their time and passion to pump up a discouraged electorate, will be dashed and that those that watched us will be forever jaded.

PLEASE PLEASE DON'T LEAVE US TO JUST SIT BACK AND WATCH THE DESTRUCTION OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY. YOU ALONE HAVE THE VOICE, POSITION, IDEAS AND INTEGRITY TO QUICKLY RESTORE HONOR TO OUR COUNTRY AND OUR COLLECTIVE SOUL!

    • Dear Mr. Gore: I disagree with Pooley (Time 10/12). He says you won't run because you'd be putting yourself back up on the pedestal and turning into "just another politician". But running doesn't have to be like that. What you'd be putting up on the pedestal wouldn't be Al Gore, but the future of the planet. For you to reenter the fray, with all its indignities and the risk of defeat, wouldn't be an act of ego, but something just the opposite.

    • Dear Al:

In our ballot signature drive to get your name on the Democratic presidential primary ballot in Massachusetts, I ask folks the question: Would you like to have Al Gore on the ballot?

For the most part, there are two common and predictable kinds of responses: the first is the excited puppy reaction - "Ohmigod, is he really running?", and I practically have to peel the eager person off me to stop them from grabbing my clipboard and pen, before I instruct them how to sign carefully.

The other response has an element of frustration dipped in annoyance: "Well, it would be great but ... Oh, come ON, he SAID he’s not running! Leave him alone - he's doing great work as it is! Why force him back into that morass?"

Why indeed? We all know that politics has been toxic - never more so than in the last 7 years. And there’s no doubt that you, Sir, are doing great, great work as a private but global citizen.

Here are two reasons why: 1) There is no one besides yourself capable of wielding vast power who can offer the breadth of qualities necessary to lead us out of the shambles of the dark neo-con dream of tyranny, conquest, and domination. We need what you have - a quicksilver, open, brilliant mind which sees the big picture, asks the necessary questions, and takes the long view, decades of leadership experience, commitment to democratic principles and the Rule of Law, love of learning & teaching, integrity, moral force, initiative, courage, wisdom, humility, tenacity, vision, faith, electability, orientation to the future, self-sacrifice, noble patriotism, and humanitarian priorities - to usher us into a new era of American innovation and cooperation with others and with the planet itself. 2) The presidency alone can offer you the greatest platform, megaphone, pulpit, and classroom that you will ever have, to use yourself for the highest possible purposes, those of restoring our Constitution and democracy, and of changing the consciousness and direction of America and the world at large, to reach for a future which is sane, liveable, creative, and full of promise.

I repeat: there is no one who comes close to having your vision-powered skill sets to make these changes happen. And without the presidency, your continued influence upon America and the world AFTER January 20, 2009 remains tentative and at risk; someone else would be creating the syllabus for the 21st century.

It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it - lead us (kicking and screaming if necessary!) to save ourselves, save the country and the earth, that is. No one wakes up wanting to be Prometheus or Cassandra or Atlas or Moses, but there you have it. You are the smartest, most decent guy in the room! You deserve to set the agenda for the next 4, hopefully 8 years. Without you at the helm, it’s hard to imagine that America can ever fully recover from the hemorrhage of principles, alliances, human treasure, material resources, ideas and ideals. You are the best president we never had ... (yet)! So we, who already honor the enormity of your contribution to the world, beg you - step up, Al: we’ve never needed your leadership more!

I answer the doubters with as much faith as I can muster:

“IF WE BUILD IT, HE WILL RUN”.

We toil in the vineyards of the growing nationwide (even worldwide) Draft Gore movement, and pray that you will.

This country needs you (as does this planet), and there's only so much you can do as a private citizen. You surely know that you're uniquely talented and uniquely positioned to lead this country off its disastrous path. Do it! We won't let you down.

    • Dear Al Gore,
I'm sure you get more messages than you could possibly read, but I am going to send this email and quit suggesting it. I trust your judgement. I have been posting on various sites Gore/Hagel '08. Everytime I read people talking about both parties not addressing the issues of average Americans, I respond how great it would be for you and Chuck Hagel to form an 'American Party'. One all of us could join, Democrats and Republicans. If we are going to get America back on track, it will take all of us. I suggest you lead by example to Unite America.
After watching Chuck Hagel on Real Time with Bill Maher, I thought a Democrat/Republican ticket is exactly what America needs. You could bring in good Democrats and good Republicans. You would be an instant voice, speaking for the individuals who feel they are not being represented by either party.
You could take on mainstream media every time they distort the issues. You would have a voice that could not be ignored.
If you google Chuck Hagel on youtube, you can see the things he said about both parties. He has been saying things that I support, but could never accept as a Republican, without a stong Democrat (American) speaking 'Truth to Power' together.
I would support you no matter who you would choose as a running mate, but I hope you decide to run and do it with a bang. Mainstream media is afraid of Democrats and Republicans willing to work together. When Webb and Hagel sponsored an Amendment together, mainstream media referenced it as the 'Webb Amendment'. I think that was due to fear of Uniting Americans. Mainstream media is a culpable as the neocons that they quote. They have spun fact into fiction and fiction into fact. It's time they are openly challenged. I think Gore/Hagel could do it!
Best of Luck in whatever you choose to do. I just pray you choose to run! Our Constitution needs you. Your young, you could choose to run in '12. But today is the day and America is the place. We need you voice.
      Take Care

This is analogous to warming a toad in a water experiment. The nation is dormant and unable to grasp true nature of the aggression imposed on it. • IF Gore is going to get in this thing, and I believe he is in it - he will probably make a move by the end of this week. What would precipitate his getting in to the 'race'? Seems he would need some event to call him out...some defining moment - a turning point.

      Astrological notes: heh
The planet Mercury (communications) went into apparent retrograde motion on Oct 12th (turning inward) - and 'goes direct' (turning outward) on Nov 1st...

What has been delayed, can now go forward...

Yah. Astrology interests me. Especially dealing with the 'larger picture' issues. Other factors, won't go into them here, show very clearly - this is Gore's time to really shine for the people, through public service, in government - to energize the masses and to be a brilliant leader for the times.

      We will see what happens...

    • The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive, signed on May 9, 2007 declares that in the event of a “catastrophic event”, George W. Bush can become what is best described as "a Dictator": If you remember, Bush brought up the fact durring one of the debates with you, that if this were a Dictatorship and he were the Dictator his job would be so much easier...Well he sure warned us in advance..
"The President shall lead the activities of the Federal Government for ensuring constitutional government."
This directive, and there have been many others, have gone completely unnoticed by the media, and given no scrutiny by Congress, literally gives the White House unprecedented dictatorial power over the government and the country, bypassing the US Congress and obliterating the separation of powers. The directive also placed the Secretary of Homeland Security in charge of domestic “security”.
      .

This is another step towards official martial law, US government fans homeland security fears which suggests that a new "catastrophic event" 9/11-type pretext could be in the pipeline.

Mr Gore what do you think about all these Directives? How do we get rid of them? Or Can we get rid of them? Or should we just fire Congress, since it seems Bush has all the cards and he is now our unofficial Dictator?

    • 100% with Al Gore. A great nation is composed of millions of people (citizens). If the relation between the government in it's citizens is not good, that nation is destined to fall, because you have different forces operating in different directions. Therefore, the only way that a great nation can stand as a great united force is if there exists good relation between the government and it's citizens. They can co-exist and work together because their consciousness is calibrated to the same "force field" that is, work together for the same goals.

If the government persecutes it's own citizens the force field that holds together a great nation breaks down. We need to reinvent present day government.

You have proven yourself correct over and over again with your movies and books. You won every exaulted award on earth! They say there are no heros today but Al Gore is MY HERO and I believe if he runs he will win, as the leader of the Free World he can EFFECT CHANGE and, power is critical. It is an enormous sacrifice on Gore's behalf, I realize that but he is a TRUE PATRIOT and I am confident he will answer the call of his countrymen for his leadership. When he wins we can make progress on ALL key topics causing so much turmoil and destruction in our world today, ending the war, bringing this criminal administration to accountability and justice( prison),global warming, carbon reduction, single payer health care for ALL Americans for starters need immediate attention.

You were the first president I ever voted for (and for that I'm grateful that I didn't turn 18 before 1996 or after 2000) and I've always been on your side of everything. The devastation of the 2000 election is still something I can't get over and watching election coverage still makes me cry. But you have a chance now to change the discourse of this country and of this planet by running - I know that we don't deserve to have a chance to re-elect you as President, but nothing would heal this country and this planet like having the chance to elect a man who believes in the good of the country and the world. Please give me the chance to vote for you as my third President so that we can give you the chance to revolutionize this world and shine a spotlight on government eavesdropping, the need for good healthcare, and the issue of climate change.

    • Speaking of "10 Steps"...

      1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
      2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
      3. Abolition of all right of inheritance.
      4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
      5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
      6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
      7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
      8. Equal liability of all to labour. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
      9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equable distribution of the population over the country.
      10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, Free healthcare for all children, &c.

According to the Communist Manifesto, all these were prior conditions for a transition from capitalism to communism

Go back and read them again and think about the things that have happened. New private prisons, the loading of the courts with loyal Bushies. The thugs that are willing to fly to Florida and disrupt the voting recount, Wiretapping, Spying on the Mennonites. and other groups, Bush claiming he can declare anyone an enemy combatant with no Habeas Corpus Rights. • There are 10 steps that must proceed the "10 Steps to Fascist America" listed above by Stormbear. They are the steps that end with "Control the President, Congress and the Judiciary" and they are the steps that Cheney and the likes of Tom Delay took so successfully:

      1. Get a public Office
      2. Use your public office to coerce money from someone, and feed taxpayers money to someone who will feed it back to you.
      3. Use the money to get a more powerful public office, and to get your stooges into other public offices.
      4. Repeat 2 and 3 until you have a small majority.
      5. Use your small majority to change to election rules to get a bigger majority, (eg gerrymander distinct boundaries, put your stooges in charge of election "fairness" and vote counting).
      6. Find dumb stooges who will swing lots of votes in your favor without you doing anything for them as long as you pretend to be on their side (e.g. Bush/Delay are 'born again Christians' to win the Christian Right votes.)
      7. Use "the power of the purse" (to quote Delay) to control the judiciary.
      8. Stack the Supreme Court with your stooges; Fire justice department attorneys who investigate your wrongdoings or fail to go after your opposition.
      9. Find a stooge to front for you as Presidential candidate - all he needs is a famous name and an aw-shucks grimace.
      10. Appoint yourself as Vice-President.

If the American people don't want the "10 Steps to Fascist America" to happen again, then the American People have to stop these first ten steps from happening again. The next gang who do it might not be as nice, honorable, and honest as the current administration.

Sadly, I have not heard a single presidential candidate - and not even Al Gore - say how they would stop it all happening again - and I fear some are candidates for the position of the Second Emperor of the USA.

Who will fight for us? Will you, Mr. Gore?

I think John Edwards would be a great running mate. But I already have a "Gore/Obama" button so that could work, too, altho I prefer JE.

If you end up in the White House, you MUST get Bush and Cheney convicted. They have the blood of hundreds of thousands on their hands. They have bankrupt our country and now our futures are hazy. Will there be SS, Medicare, etc when we need it? My son was recently dropped from Medicaid due to a glitch, was forced to reapply and was then denied. We are appealing, for all the good it will do. The Medicaid regs have changed now that we have a Republican governor.

The current state of our country is reminding me so much of the many science fiction books I read about futuristic societies. Maybe they weren't science fiction, but predictions.

      And the beat goes on...

    • That's fabulous. This site is a great idea.

What I wonder is how we have let it get so far. How have our courts allowed Mr. Bush and his minions to violate the Constitution with such regularity and such impunity? The idea of the Constitution is that it is the supreme law of the land. Our courts are required to strike down any law, state or federal, which violates the Constitution's guarantees. So my question is: why does Congress need to pass more laws to constrain this administration's conduct? Why isn't the Constitution enough?

I still have never heard why they couldn't follow the law since the law allowed for warrants to be granted after the fact in emergency or legitimately urgent situations. Yet they flouted the law and the Constitution. If anything is impeachable this is it!!

    • Al is right "American's need more protection from Government." Period.

But this particular issue isn't high on my concerns because its not about whether the government can eavesdrop, it is only about whether they have to get a warrant to do it. There is a process for them to get a warrant - and, I have read, they have never been refused and can get after-the-fact warrant.

The scary thing is that the administration refuses to go through that slight oversight process. Does that mean they are using warrentless eaves dropping in a way that would NOT get warrants? That oversight by anyone would disclose something really sinister?

Or does it show complete distain for constitutional system they are supposed to be defending?

They go to extreme lengths to protect their privacy by refusing to produce the documents and emails regarding their lies and real purpose. • Sir,

Americans want you to run and we can be sooo annoying at times, I know. But I doubt any of us will shut up anytime soon - you know how we can be.

The Blue States are yours already, the Purple States are yours too because they look back at what could have been if things had gone differently in 00, that and they feel bad - they feel you need your chance to pull us out of the Hell-hole we are currently in. The Red States (what there is left of them) are a toss up. Nothing you can do about the blind political rage they have.

I know another run for the Presidency may not seem like a fun thing to do right now and in a strange sort of way WINNING the election will totally suck. It will be on your shoulders to fix the multi-layer putrid mess we are in. You know what to do, global warming-wise, but it will also be up to you to fix our debacle in Iraq and what ever mess Bush starts in Iran. Oh and there is that open sore called Afghanistan we should put some compute cycles into.

And did you know the economy is a wreck? Remember that high-falutin' job I had under Clinton / Gore? It went extinct in 2001. The dollar also is lower than a Dick Cheney Dirty Trick™.

So I know you would rather not get sucked into the slime pit known as politics, but we need you.

Few men in American history have been called by a nation for the singular purpose of becoming President. Our founding fathers loved to hide out on their farms and wait for the worst of the hand-wringing to pass when it was their turn to sit and helm the nation that is America. Well, they didn't live in a world that included the Internet, blogs and mass email campaigns. So no matter how far out in the woods your farm may be, I am sure the Internet is available.

Few have been called and you should be warned we will keep dialing.

    • Share these facts with republicans and post these everywhere.
repetition is what made people believe in Bush's lies.
The truth has to be repeated and thrown in their faces. Truths about their Hypocrisy and their lies.
The truth about their carelessness of the Planet.

      Some Republican truths

on October 8/07 a Police investigation was released about Republican Rev. Gary Aldridge .An Alabama Republican Baptist minister who died in June 07. He was found hogtied and wearing two complete wet suits, including a face mask, diving gloves and slippers, rubberized underwear, a head mask, and a dildo up his ass, according to an autopsy report.
Investigators determined that Rev. Gary Aldridge's death was not caused by foul play and that the 51-year-old Baptist Republican pastor of Montgomery's Thorington Road Church was alone in his home at the time he died (while apparently in the midst of some autoerotic undertaking).
Aldridge served as the church's pastor for 16 years. Gary Aldridgeworked for the late Jerry Falwell.

October 2007 the republican chairman of the St. Petersburg, Florida, City Council was accused of having sex with his two adopted daughters and their nanny. And he could have been in real trouble, too, if it turned out the nanny was an illegal. But he got ahead of the story when he killed himself by sitting in the garage with the doors closed and the riding lawn mower on.

Infamous Republican Senator Craigs called BIll Clinton a nasty naughty boy
only to be caught in an Airport Mens room trying to have anonimous sex. (7/07)

Christian reverend Ted Haggard's demonised gays and lesbians throughout his whole career, preaching people how to meet the Savior and condemn Sins. Ultimaltely he is caught buying drugs and seeking sex from a male prostitute

Spokane Mayor Jim West, who championed an anti-gay agenda during his tenure as one of the most powerful Republicans in the Legislature, later shows his resignation for his own gay scandal.

Foley, a Florida Republican, resigned from Congress on
Sept. 29 after being confronted with the computer messages he sent to
male teenage pages who had worked on Capitol Hill.

Jeff Gannon's, a known male Hooker had access to the White house and was in most press conferences at the white house

    • Too many people have been bought out by corporate money. Public opinion has been manipulated to a point where Americans don't even know what their rights under the constitution are, and give them up no questions asked, when Bush and Cheney say they have to do that to protect Americans.

You know that that's is the problem. media conglomerations must be split and investigative journalism has to come back.

I would say the dumbing of Americans is being successfull but who would dare to say it in their face.

I would urge Americans to seek informations on many sites, and not from Main Stream Media

    • I wonder if while they were spying on us if they happened to notice where the six nuclear warheads are? My money is on them having been shipped to the Middle East. Our sadist President just won't be satisfied until he nukes Iran. Blowing up frogs just isn't enough anymore.

    • Al, to clean up the world, we need help cleaning up the great 'melting pot'.

Al, our US Constitution is a great recipe, you know better than those wishing to misuse it.

Al, please sir, give it another stir.

Al, you're the Current Chef and you need to show the current quasi-cooks, how it's really done. They've forgotten the recipe, their 'specialties' give me heartburn. They haven't the skills, the soul, nor the right ingredients.

The hour glass has turned, the time is now.

Stir the melting pot, Al-- serve the melting world.
