In the face of a failing war on illegal drugs, a senior police chief in North Wales advocates the legalisation of all drugs in exchange for more efforts on drug rehabilitation and prevention. He will present his report, Drugs Policy - A Radical Look Ahead, later this week.

    • It's no secret that America's war on drugs is rather a war on the poor and usually ethnically inclined Americans... Legalizing drugs would not only make them safer to use and more readily controlled (control being the only part of legalization I would hate, but do see as neccessary), it would also essentially shut down the need for an underground criminal organization to move and distribute those drugs. Fact is there is a lot of money that is alotted to states and local governing bodies for the "war on drugs" it is a very profitable business for those directly involved; And, since the tax payers take care of the most expensive parts of the "problem" (incarceration of offenders, "rehabilitation programs", court costs and fees, and paying law enforcement task force salaries) it is a very profitable "war" indeed.

    • Ah! You mean the war on drugs doesn't just mean throwing people in jail for a bag of weed? There's actual rehabilitation? What a novel idea. (punchline: in America, there IS NO war on drugs.)
