Brian De Palma's new feature film Redacted was a hit when it premiered at the 2007 Venice Film Festival but faces tougher scrutiny here at home. The controversial film that has the blogosphere on fire is a docudrama based on the the real-life rape, murder, and burning of Abeer Qasim Hamza al-Janabi, a 14-year-old Iraqi girl in March 2006 by U.S. soldiers, who also killed her parents and younger sister. While she was being raped, Abeer's parents and seven year old sister were taken into another room where she could hear what was happening to them. They were shot and killed. Sergent Paul Cortez stated: "(PFC Steven) Green then placed himself between Abeer's legs to rape her. When Green was finished, he stood up and shot Abeer in the head two or three times." The assault took less than five minutes.

The film is scheduled for a limited release in the U.S. in November 2007 and is being distributed by billionaire Mark Cuban's Magnolia Pictures. Both De Palma and Cuban are being attacked for demonizing the troops yet none of the detractor's have even seen the film! Dark Matter will discuss the film, the haters, and whether or not anyone will even go see it.
