Well, sure,"Draft Gore" people sent here from another venue to deliberately discredit this idea would say that thinking this is some sort of "competition." However, you are correct that China is a part of this, so, I hope you will all then be sending a letter to the Chinese government or the UN as well to hold their feet to the fire, because I sure would hate to think that people are just using this crisis now for their own political reasons especially since this is a moral issue.
In my estimation the most effective way to get domestic action in this bought and sold system now is tp apply increasing international and business pressure. It won't be done from Congress in the next year regardless of the candidate without that international pressure. Perhaps even the outcome of the Australian elections next month may hold some sway, but we will have to see.
Because this is nothing now but a merry go round with China stating it won't do it unless the U.S. does, and the U.S. stating it won't do it unless China does. What difference would who the "president" is make in that equation then? Especially since the polls that people all love showed that only about 2% of voters think this the most important issue this election even though about 40% see it as an urgent crisis?
The international community, especially those poorer countries that are not emitting the largest percentages of GHGS but feeling the brunt of its effects must also come together as well to apply pressure and yes, GUILT this government into action.
But again, one man or woman is not going to do that without international pressure now being exerted and without an informed citizenry demanding it NOW on all levels. This isn't just about one political campaign or pushing anyone to run because you hate one of the other choices. This is about our survival and the fastest way to get targets across the board, which I think and hope will begin in Bali this December where I also hope Mr. Gore (who is my global environmental ambassador with or without a UN designation) will be to help forge this treaty.

No way. There are two countries that are key to the climate crisis and turning it around, the United States and China. Without a drastic policy change, we're all doomed. Only place policy changes can be initiated with any authority AT ALL is in government. Since Al Gore cannot become the president of China, that only leaves one choice...

I agree, without true leadership in this country he will be beating his head against a wall. I believe he has realized that the changes needed are going to have to be done quickly and he will need a mandate. Hence, he must allow us to carry him to power so that the others in power will defer to his opinions. The tools are here and he has not asked us to stop so onward and upward! Pass the word at every opportunity! It is amazing what just wearing your Gore 2008 button can do.

No way. We can NOT side-step a toxic Washington, we must de-toxify it. Our administration does not have respect for the UN, why would it listen to a UN Global Environmental Ambassador? Besides, with or without that official title, Al already holds that position anyway. We will accomplish nothing of significance unless our democracy and Constitution are resuscitated while climate solutions are sought simultaneously. The one person best to accomplish all of that is Al Gore in the position he himself stated holds the most power to do so, the Presidency of the United States. Al, we won't stop pushing you because YOU (with the People standing beside you) are what is best for our country... Run for President!
