Rowan Williams archbishop of the Anglican church, says that US imperialism has led to "the worst of all worlds."

He said that US violence overseas is the result of the myth that everything that America does "is very much at the heart of God’s purpose for humanity”

He said that US imperialism in Iraq is worse than British Imperialism in India, because resources and infrastructure were given to the people of India.

Do you agree with the Archbishop?

    • "The Iraq war is very volatile." Exactly like our leaders wanted it to be. Why do you think they disbanded the army that at the time could have helped us keep order giving them their guns and leaving the ammunition storage wide open for looting? It wasn't in our interest to have the transition from one kind of government to another go smoothly. Couldn't steal their resources if it did. Couldn't impose our ideas on them if things weren't in upheaval. We the people are ultimately responsible for our leaders.

    • I don't agree with the archbishop. The Iraq war is very volatile. Providing resources and building an infrastructure as the British did in India doesn't seem feasible at all. I don't agree with Bush either. And as far as imperialism is concerned, I have nothing to do with what the government does. I don't start wars and I don't kill innocent people. I don't want Iraqi oil, but I never thought that Saddam Hussein was a great guy either. So, when the archbishop says "US violence overseas is the result of the myth that everything that America does 'is very much at the heart of God’s purpose for humanity' " has nothing to do with me. I'm not a "Christian" and I don't follow any idiotic American beliefs. The archbishop really needs some education as to exactly "who" and "how many" people in this country ever wanted imperialism.

    • I fully agree with the archbishop. It's our leaders that are trying to take over the world, but we are allowing it. I think some of us think we somehow deserve Iraqi oil.

    • I don't think that separation of church and state is the source of the problem. The problem is that we have a people leading our country who either think that their way is the only way, or are consciously making decisions that can very seriously screw over our nation for the sake of their own personal goals and greed.

The fact that some of our leaders appeal to a religious crowd is not the issue. In my opinion it is their mask. By saying that they believe in the bible, by saying that what they are doing is the will of God, and by being subtle and saying "God bless" whenever they can, these people are getting a pass. Lots of religious people are ignoring the completely immoral and stupid things that this administration is doing because the top man says he is a born again Christian. I have never met a serious born again Christian who messes up so many biblical quotes.

Now about the main thread. Yes I agree with the Archbishop.

My first reason is that when the British occupied India, they did so for many many years and they did so in a manner did not bring their country on the verge of bankruptcy.

Second, when the British did leave India, they left the country in a relatively stable condition.
