Sharif, a former prime minister of the country and a vocal opposition leader had filed papers to run for office, but had also not rule out boycotting the elections. Now apparently, Pakistan's election officials have made the decision for him, ruling that due to his previous criminal convictions, he is disqualified from running.
Now we just have to wait and see what the fallout from this will be. I predict this adds fuel to the opposition fire, with cries that the election officials are puppets, and that Pervez Musharraf continues to pull the strings. Thoughts?
