It's not that the dems have no spine as the republicans spend millions trying to make people believe. Instead of spending all their time prosecuting the dirty scoundrels of the republican party, they try to get things done, which is extremely difficult because so many people continually believe the republican BS. A vote for any party other than the Democratic party is actually a vote for the republican party. They have all the money and power because they are constantly stealing as much as they can and when they have power, they work hard at prosecuting everything they can that is Democratically oriented. We're in a bad position, but the alternative is to become like them.
It's all lies. Always has been. Independents are not going to get anything done. The republicans won't let them. You have to have a majority in Congress and it has to be an overwhelming majority if the pres is republican because of vetoes. Just look at how they do business.
Democrats are all about individual's rights and equality for all. That's why it's so hard to get anything done. So many people who are doing real good begin to believe they did it all on their own and gradually become republicans. I know a lot of Democrats who have worked hard over the years to help bring equality or at least a chance of it, to many people.

Like throwing soldiers into combat in vehilcles with no armor while over $12 billion you've given in gifts to your personal friends disappears like magic, and your Republican Congress votes against all proposals to try to find it. Good points, ObiaMan. The problem is, with a Republican spine so rigid no one can bend it, and the Democratic Party with no spine at all (makes them hard to support) where can "We the People" find any politicians who will represent us?

To spoon. You're exactly right. And even worse, the military budget doesn't necessarily mean any set percentage actually goes to helping the troops in their missions. Lil W is actually an F- student who ought to be tried for war crimes, against our troops. People like him are always waving their flags, to take your mind off what their other hand is stuffing in their pockets. He's just an unconvicted criminal.

Stating facts is not "political attacking". Facts show how well our troops are supported by every administration compared to how well we're funding the military, and on this fact check Bush's grade is well below the "C" student that he is. You can claim that's not important to you, but to claim that the President's national budget priorities don't make any difference to our troops is just plain not true. They have already done so and will continue to do so. In Bush's case what he says about our troops and what he's doing to them are in direct contradiction to each other. With friends like AWOL Fly Baby, "Bring 'Em On" Mission Accomplished Bush, who needs enemies?

I can't say that I'm either shocked or impressed about the lack of bonuses and/or benefits that our soldiers have been getting. What pays for all of those things are taxes, and what has been cut for the past 7 years....?

That's disgusting. But I'm not surprised. There's probably some fine print in the contract stating that you have to serve at full capacity your entire enlistment period, with no exceptions, or give your bonus back.
We've all heard a thousand sad stories of vets being ripped after they're no longer useful. If people would put as much effort into helping those that sacrificed to keep us free to whine and bi**h, as they do screaming about animals and abortions and things going on under someone's desk, our vets wouldn't be suffering so much. It says alot about who we are, doesn't it?

I don't think there was need for political attacking on this particular topic. The purpose was for everyone who has not been keeping up with the news to be aware of what is happening to the people in our military. There is no evidence that any administration would have done a better job. It's easy to say after the fact "I wouldn't have done that" if you are Gore or Kerry or whoever. It is just sad that this happened.

Well not wishing harm for the troops can be political. In 1996 Clinton finally covered all veterans' health care, then in 2003 Bush pulled the rug out from under about 1.7 million veterans, leaving them without VA health care benefits AND totally uninsured. Plus at least 280,000 more have been added since then for a total over 2 million vets (plus nine million children) without any access to health care. Increasing the military budget 150% while increasing soldiers' pay 4% is political, too; it only happened because George Bush and Dick Cheney are "in charge". We should all be ashamed.

Asking for the signing bonuses from soldiers who came back from their contract early due to injury is appalling. I could not have more disdain for, and disappointment with, the US military for these actions.

Yes, this surely is something we can all agree on. I appreciate you bringing up a topic like this that can bring people from all political spectra together to form a consensus on something.
I know of no one who ever wished harm on the troops, whether they ever agreed with this war or not. Additionally, everyone wants the people who were put in harm's way to be taken care of when they get back. It's the absolute least we can do for them.
