    • Too many people do not know what legalized gambling brings to communities. It is true that gambling revenues (consumer losses) bring tax revenues to that community initially. However this is strictly short-term. In the long run, money that is being lost by gamblers represent dollars that could have been spent on other consuption goods and therefore benefit the economy. Anyone who has studied economics will agree based on the theory of the money multiplier. In the long run, people are losing their money to these casinos and, though revenues are initially raised, state and local governments will be increasingly dependent on these casinos (and therefor increasingly dependent on consumer losses) to generate revenue. It is sad that so many state governments are looking to casinos to generate revenue.

    • Interesting issue! I would have liked to know more about the governor's decision to pursue this issue. Why does he think that this is a good idea? How much revenue would it possibly generate?
