Police Force May Strike For First Time Since 1919

The future of a ban imposed over a century ago on the UK police forces, which prevents them from taking industrial strike action, is to be voted on later this month. The proposed ballot comes as police management called for the resignation of Jacqui Smith, Home Secretary. Her decision to limit the extent of back pay for a pay rise for the force has been met with anger by those in all ranks of law enforcement. It seems mind blowing that police officers are forbidden from striking, keeping them effectively at the mercy of government whims - I know how I'd vote.

    • Here's a cool link that's got all about how London's Metropolitan Police Force was formed.

I know things aren't great for the UK forces at the moment, but 50 years ago it would've been so much worse...
