Iraq: Deployment Diary

Hugh_Martin
A shorter version from a documentary about five Army National Guard soldiers pulled from school and deployed to Iraq. The piece was produced, edited and shot by soldiers. All of the B-Roll was shot by soldiers while on duty in Iraq. Any feedback is appreciated.

    • Wow, I thought they only did that in the movies. I liked this pod, although the interview style was getting slightly monotonous. If the speakers had a little more presence, maybe if the mic were a little closer, that would have been good. Overall, I thought it was a nice balance between B-footage and interviews, but a little more B-footage would be o.k. Like, when he's saying how beautiful Northern Iraq is, how about showing it. Even a still picture might work. Vacation destination, though? That is optimism.

I think this needs more Diary. It seems like you tried to put it in at the end, the being jumpy/nightmares, Iraq is beautiful, I felt like I did something over there, but other than that, there wasn't much emotion expressed.
I assume that all these soldiers pretty much are in favor of the war, since I wasn't shown otherwise and it ended with "it was worth it."

Although I disagree with this war and how it was started I don't blame the soldiers. Honor the warrior, not the war.

I am glad your company had no casualties and I hope it won't have to return to Iraq.

It was interesting to get a peek from a soldiers perspective. Thanks for posting this pod.
