Why is the Carlyle Group buying American Nursing Homes? Do they see Americans going away from war and back to spending on American health care? Are they positioning themselves to get our tax dollars through nursing homes and the possibility of National Health Care? Will the Carlyle Group's purchase benefit Americans in nursing homes, or be another cash cow for big business?
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article3070798.ece The Times also reported: Magna Carta bought for $21m by US tycoon. The only copy of Magna Carta in private hands sold for $21.32 million (£10.6 million) this morning in the first auction of the ?birth certificate of freedom?.
The 1297 example, described as the most important document to come up for sale, was acquired by David Rubenstein, the founder of the Carlyle Group, at Sotheby?s in New York. He has paid $8,528 a word.
The document established the principle of habeas corpus, which protects people against unlawful imprisonment by ensuring such rights as trial by jury and freedom from unlawful arrest.
Clause 39 proclaims: ?No free man shall be taken or imprisoned or disseised or outlawed or exiled or in any way ruined, nor will we go or send against him, except by the lawful judgment of his peers or by the law of the land.? The Carlyle Group may find it ironic they can purchase the paper document, can they do away with the words on the document?

Carlyle also bid on and now owns Dunkin Donuts brands. Bagles and Bombs is what they should call it now. I used to go to Dunkin Donuts occassionally, but since reading about this, NO WAY.

Yes, that's it. Power does corrupt, but I think money works for many as a good source of power. The meek may inherit the earth, but the rich can buy it now! That doesn't seem to be working out so well for the earth or average Americans. I think the meek are a needed part of society, bringing along compassion.
When we look back at this time in history, American compassion and accountability seem to be lacking. Can we be bought? Do we care who owns us (America)? Can we do anything to stop our future from being sold to the highest bidder? - 4 years ago

I think the phrase is something along the lines of "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"
The same can be said of money.

phillyharper thanks for the links. I have been following the Carlyle group for some time and fear their acquisitions will end up siphoning more tax dollars to their investments. There is a saying about money corrupts, not sure of the exact quote at this moment, but you get the jest. By the time Americans realize the extent of the Carlyle group, it will be too late to stop them, they will have their hands in every aspect of American society.
One of my teachers?s back in the 60?s talked about America ending up being owned by a small number of large corporations. As it turns out he was a visionary. - 4 years ago

Both George W. Bush and George H.W Bush have served on the board of directors and the advisory board.
John Major, the former UK prime minister, was the chairman of the company between 2002 and 2005, and Thaksin "Moneybags" Shinawatra, the pre coup Thai prime minister has also been a member of the board.
Where Carlyle lead, vested interests follow.
