Huffington Post To Edwards: DROP DEAD! (You Won't Believe This Article)

Image
crob80227
Lawrence O'Donnell calls John Edwards a "loser" and urges him to drop out and stop blocking the historic election of the nation's first black candidate. If this doesn't fire you up, I don't know what will. I myself once thought that Edwards should drop out but have since broken free from media mind control and returned to my senses. This article is an outrage. Just how far will the media go to stop Edwards?

    • What I enjoy most about John Edwards is his quieter style. He lets Hillary and Barack go at each other like children squabbling over the last cookie, then he steps in like a mature voice of reason, and actually presents a plan for change instead of just giving lip service to it. Barack, for all his pretense of being on the higher moral ground, is just as guilty as Hillary of taking corporate money from the clusterers and lobbyists, and John is the only one not taking that blood money. Keep it up, John, I would love to see you on the ticket with Hillary or with Barack!

    • It's a safe bet that anyone the corporate media is pushing or the powers that be recommends is not the one we want. Look around who actually addresses the real issues? John Edwards.

    • Any one that sticks his neck to tell the truth about this fake country of lobbyists fat cats living in America but that in reality has already burned our own Constitution with their wrongful lobbying will going to be attacked. Start to tell the truth and the fat cats will start to pop out everywhere and that includes the "Dead Corporate Media."
"Loser" will be you if you believe in anything coming from their mean and selfish planned minds.

Human beings are treated worse than a milk cow in this Country by Lobbyists. In case of the Cows, producers suck out the milk and profit from it. However, at least the cows are well fed and have free health care. You, well you know the story...

    • Well, if I had the funds I would buy copies of Mr. Gore's The Assault On Reason to send to all of them. And with it a copy of the Constitution for them to read, because last I read it the corporate media does not get to decide who is president, the people do. And yes, I agree, this is a great thread.

    • tainerz, Thank you. You are right. Still we have to get angry and try to find ways to help. There is too much letting the chips fall where they may. They have been clunking down on our heads. We want to rent the Good Year blimp and fly around with Edwards painted on the sides.

And come on, which pocket stuffer or their delegated pawn, isn't going to take a shot at Edwards considering he flips the cooperates the loyalty bird! Funny how people write off the common logic that with a sizable campaign donation comes the possible perk of priority skewing. And they definitely don't spend millions in contributions to gamble a payback - it's expected obviously. But with his foundation consisting solely of middle class American voters, John Edwards should be getting praise for his endeavors instead of being crucified for it He has even openly invited his opponents to take part in refusing corporate contributions and uphold the priority of the everyday voter, all which has yielded nothing but more boiled blood aimed in his direction. Nobody likes their skid marked underwear pointed out in public!

Just don't let the corporate media giants take a whack at your better judgment with pawns like O'Donnell, cuz the ONLY loser is the voter who listens to O'Donnell and the alike.

    • Chique... right on point with all your responses!

      Helicopterson, i agree....

and Kozeki... your crackin' me up - inspired me to comment.

It's interesting how much energy Lawrence O'Donnell spends trying to convince us Edwards is a loser, when he could simply just show us some evidence! Problem is, difficult to find a negative side when there is none, otherwise he would just end up pollinating America with Edward's genuinely concerned middle class geared political propaganda they need. Messages like taking on the insurance and healthcare industry instead of making side deals and a free tuition program for college students. All I got from the article is that Larry is the biggest loser himself!

Not to take a bittery sip of the Hateraid, but can a political wash up like O'Donnell, even with the Huffinton Post?s street cred behind him [HA!], accurately critique Edwards on his political game plan? I mean, O'Donnell's resume is yet to include an election much less a successful one and last I checked the two victories Edwards holds, may not be as politically prestigious as the bumbling sidekick roles O'Donnell bent over for on his climb to the top, as revered opinion writer of the self-affamed online news blog that is, the Huffington Post. But I guess Edwards is heading in a different direction.... To me it seems like a simple shocker story to boost hits to the home-site. Every esteemed paper of the Huff's caliber resorts to a "Big foot abductee gives birth to bat-boy" article every now and then to nudge sales, don't they? So what IS Larry's problem anyway? Is it just delusion or penis envy?

O'Donnell makes the most absurd connections like "...he will continue his simple-minded, losing campaign and deny Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton the one-on-one contest they deserve."
Oh right, the all-American right to vote on the two narrowed down for you! How could I forget! A lesser of two evils run-off.... It's always worked out before!

      and another great one...

"Maybe Edwards is already not a factor in the campaign because Edwards voters would split evenly between Senators Obama and Clinton if Edwards dropped out." NO SHHHhh...... is that honestly one of his arguments? So, what O'Donnell, in all his expertise has deduced, is that liberal Edwards supporters won't jump to a republican platform if Edwards concedes!? Honey, Miss Cleo coulda predicted that! And he even tries to smear John's rep with two race card references! With a guerilla's grace, O'Donnell has managed some serious poo flinging.

And with so many pixels to spare, I'm surprised O'Donnell didn't touch on the political success his Chief Editor, Arianna Huffington, had during her race to swoop on the Governor's seat in California. Remember - the catalyst which bread the political-sideshow she fell victim to, which with poetic justice emerged not a educated journalist, but an aging action-film star who has trouble even pronouncing his own states name, as the final victor! Whom she clearly intellectually creamed during the debates. If it only weren't for those damn lobbyist that stuffed his pockets she might have had a chance. And yet you'd think she'd sympathize with Edwards more...

I urge everyone to listen to John Edwards himself. It is obvious in his 'take back America from cooperate lobbyist' stance to understand why the animosity being generated is two-to-one, with every poll point Edwards scores with the people. Edwards has the steepest fight just to stand out among the O'billery blurry-haze and hypen'd crossfire. What's disappointing is the lack of attention and kudos Edwards should be receiving considering he is the only candidate speaking to the REAL issues of the everyday American.

    • Yes, Marilyn, and let's not forget to try to get him to number one on Google. ;-) I also think his campaign needs a rapid response team to counter the crap coming out of the corporate media's mouthpieces. I read that Chris Matthews was talking about him last night and basically trashed his SC ad saying all he ever talks about is millwork and mills. Does Chris Matthews realize that millworkers, carpenters, service workers, mine workers, and all of those that are the backbone of this country like me and my husband are looking for someone to FINALLY stand up for THEM? The economy ties the war as the most important issue now, so John Edwards's message is even more important for the times we live in. What an elitist bunch of jackasses we have in the corporate media, and it's time they realized that it is THEY who are on the wrong side.

Flood the market making sure they know we have his word he is in it to the convention. There are enough of us to make a good job of it. Just don't forget you belong here!

    • I was talking to a dear friend of mine who is a long time supporter of John Edwards, and she says that he probably won't be able to win because there is entirely too much money against him, however, she hopes that he stays in the race till the convention so he can become a broker with his delegates. He may get the chance to decide who the nominee will be, and hopefully influence the party agenda at the convention.

Did anyone notice how Obama was coopting Edwards statements in his victory speech in Iowa? "Fighting Corporate Greed & Special Interest" for starters...

Regardless of the outcome, Edwards will have made a lasting impression and it is up to us to keep the momentum going against the MSM (main stream media).

Did anyone take Arianna Huffington's run for California governor serioiusly?
She was in the same candidate class as Marey Carey and Gary Coleman.
Probably because she has whack jobs like O'Donnell advising her...

    • O'Donnell's article makes me want to vote for Edwards even more, not less. Corporatists like him are clearly threatened by Edwards' message of economic fairness. Poor Obama. He doesn't need douche bags like him endorsing him. I've met some very ardent Obama supporters, and all are more civil than this piece of crap article.

    • This headline is misleading to readers. It suggests that the Huffington Post itself has published an editorial telling Edwards to drop out of the race. HuffPost is hosting the piece by O'Donnell, and is also hosting the piece by Smiley. So why not "Huffington Post to O'Donnell: Shut the Hell Up"? I would argue that a more accurate hed would be something like "O'Donnell on HuffPost: Edwards Should Drop Dead (You Won't Believe This Article)

    • Journalists (in my humble opinion) can't relate to Edwards or his messages about jobs, the economy and poverty in general. None of the reporters are hungry or struggling or getting 5 phone calls a day from Capital One wanting to know where their minimum payment is. And -- let's just be real -- none of these guys on TV have ever really fought their way up from poverty. They were born upper middle class (or higher) and went to the good colleges and then took nonpaying internships with local news stations. And why not? Mummy and daddy will support them through their internship. I know, I know. Too snarky. But do any of us believe the talking heads can really understand what the hell Edwards is talking about? Do these guys really have any clue what being "working poor" means? So it's no wonder they are writing Edwards off as just "pandering to the crowd." They all grew up in the gated communities and never saw their folks get divorced over money or saw members of their families evicted. So to them poverty and outsourced jobs or the subprime mortgage crisis is not "real" to them in any meanigful way. It's just words on a telepromopter and Edwards (and Kucinich!) are just some guys talking about a subject that isn't as sexy as abortion or gay marriage. Thank god for Current! At least here real people can talk about subjects.

My sentiments EXACTLY, pcamacho! Well said. K Street is the single most debilitating force in the U.S. political landscape. If there were ever a place for one of those highly-praised defense industry "smart bombs" to go off course, I could think of no better. Of course I would never advocate violence but if only Pat Roberston would be as vocal about God's wrath on K Street as he was about the school board in Dover, PA, this would be a good place for him to do it.

    • From a journalists point of view a 2 person race is easier to write about. And if it's between the first female cadidate and the first black candidate -- zoinks! Even better! And if one of those people is a Clinton? Goodnight Irene! And that was essentially the point of Lawrence's article in the Huffington Post. "John is boring. He's a boring white guy and Hillary and Obama are just more interesting to write about." Unfortunately for all of us reporters don't live in the real world. They don't worry about paying the daycare bill and the electric bill in the same month because the just isn't enough money for both. Reporters (the ones elite enough to be published in the Huffington Post and pontificate on Fox) don't worry if the car breaks down -- hell, just buy another one! They don't worry about working 3rd shift or worry that their job will be sent overseas. So to the talking heads on ABC this is all a funny joke. Something to pass the time in between buying new cars or trips to Sandals. To the rest of us this is life and death. If we don't get a candidate (like Edwards) into power to renegotiate these trade deals and to stand up to these out of control companies -- we'll lose everything. But this race isn't over. Not even close. In the Time article I linked to it discusses (briefly) how Edwards really isn't out of this race. Excerpt: "In the meantime, his campaign said there is a silver lining to having a three-person field. 'We beat Hillary in Iowa, she beat us here. Obama beat her in Iowa, she beat him here,' said Jonathan Prince, Edwards' top strategist. "If you have these results on February 5, no one's the nominee. No one's anywhere near 50 percent... And we think over the long haul we're going to be very competitive"

So much of modern politics is focused not on honest differences of policy but on personal attacks. So much of modern media is dominated by people who earn fortunes by demeaning others, defining them by their worst moments, exploiting their agonies. who's happier? the uniters or the dividers? the builders or the breakers? the givers or the takers? -Bill clinton

    • What's the next state up? Michigan. I used to live in Michigan and still have family there. Michigan has to be one of the hardest hit states in terms of a devastated economy. Once the factories started packing up and moving over seas to take advantage of the child labor, exploit the impoverished living conditions and total absence of any kind of labor or environmental laws -- it started an almost irreversible downward spiral. Poverty and low wages are rampant. Here is a state where Edwards should do fantastic! What could Hillary's message possibly be? That she'll politely request the major manufacturers give up the cheap child labor and come back to the US? And what could Obama say? That's he'll "work with companies" to get them to give up the slaves, er, I mean foriegn labor? Again, here's where the Edwards message should play well. As he said it best, "You can't 'nice' these people to death!" We need better trade agreements and we need to make it more difficult and more expensive for companies to enjoy US benefits without using US workers. Obama doesn't have the experience or, frankly, the toughness to deal with what's ahead in terms of standing against corporate America. When will the wake up call for our friend Obama be? Probably when he goes to shake the hands of GE, GM and Haliburton and pulls back a bloody stump! These guys aren't interested in being "friends" or finding common ground. They want cash. Lot's of cash. And if they have to beat Obama into the ground to get it they, frankly, have no problem with that. We need a fighter, not a uniter.

I hope he wins Nevada and a few other states and gains more momentum, if for nothing else but to show the corporate media and the political hacks in this country what democracy really means. If they think they will dare tell us that Obama and Clinton already are the ONLY two we have to choose from when it is far from over, then frankly, they can kiss my ass.

It proves that he's standing up against corporations running our country on our behalf which makes him a winner to most of us. And, if he loses because the media set him up to lose by calling him a loser - then the media is the real loser, along with the rest of the country.

    • Here's something even more disturbing: do you even know what the delegate count is so far? The media is calling this horse race and universally declared that Edwards is so far behind (after only two states have voted) that it would be "egomaniacal" not to drop out. Let's review the scorecard for the Dem candidates: Obama has 25, Clinton has 24 and Edwards has 18. Ah, but the media told us that Edwards is so far behind after new Hampshire that this former vice-presidential candidate is embarrassing himself by remaining in the race. Well, what do you think? Do those number represent a blow out? Again only TWO states have voted. But let's move on to the Republicans. Surely if Edwards is an "embarrassment" with only 18 delegates then the pudits would be making the same claim for anyone on the Republican side with so few, right? Let's review: Romney has 24, Huckabee has 18 and McCain has 10. Waitaminute -- we were told that coming in third with only 18 delegates was a "failure" so overwhelming that Edwards must be a -- how'd they phrase it? -- "egomaniacal loser" to remain in the race. (reminder: only TWO states have voted). Meanwhile McCain snags only 10 delegates and the press is proclaiming him the defacto Republican candidate. McCain-mania (as the press dubs it) is sweeping the nation. For the love of God what is going on with our mainstream media in regards to John Edwards?

    • The rebuttal was straight-forward and to the point. My favorite section was this gem: "However, I am fairly sure in my own mind that Karl Rove paid him to write that post. Look at it this way: O'Donnell attacks the only candidate in the race with explicitly progressive policy positions, and the only candidate in the race who hasn't accepted corporate money, and the only candidate in the race who understands how corporations are poisoning American politics and American life with their unrestrained power and influence." Still, I am a little troubled that an article as poorly written as Lawrence's was even allowed to be published! It seemed more like an angry anti-Edwards comment to an article than an actual article. It was devoid of any real point other than that this werido passionately hates John Edwards. Disliking Edwards is fine. Even publishing peices critical of Edwards in the Huffington Post wouldn't necessarily raise any eyebrows (at least not from me). But something so poorly written and devoid of content? I'm disappointed in Arianna for allowing that one to get posted at all.

So, he will continue his simple-minded, losing campaign and deny Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton the one-on-one contest they deserve." Good Lord! What has John Edwards done to warrant such a hit piece from a Progressive website??? Again, this isn't some kind of Republican Slime Machine like Fox News calling Edwards a loser and a racist. None of us would be terrible shocked by that. This is an article in the Huffington Post for crying out loud. Hell hath no fury like the DNC scorned.

    • Actually the article has nothing to do with the Kerry endorsement of Obama. In fact, it's barely clear if the article has any point (it is incredibly short) other than to insult John Edwards and scare his supporters into abandoning him! Here is one of the most shocking excerpts "If John Edwards stays in the race, he might, in the end, become nothing other than the Southern white man who stood in the way of the black man. And for that, he would deserve a lifetime of liberal condemnation." I'm still shocked that anyone would have the gall to actually write such a thing. I'm doubly shocked that the Huffington Post would publish it. The article goes on to suggest that Edwards is a egomanic and implies he may even be a racist if he doesn't do the "right thing" and bow out and leave the game to those who are his superiors (Clinton and Obama). My god!
