Shopping for a Candidate

Taigster
Steven went on a personal journey in New Hampshire. Who in the field of candidates would enact policy that would be most friendly to his chief concern, whether or not gay Americans can be afforded equal rights to those that are straight. At the end of the shopping day--we'll see if Steven actually made a purchase...

    • Steven, as a young New Hampshirite (?, not quite sure if that is a word, but it will do), I can totally relate to how you feel. It's super hard to get a straight answer out of these guys (and gal).

I empathize with your plight and I hope you finally get someone who can actually make a promise and keep to it. Keep fighting, I am still shopping too. :)

I hope you enjoyed wicked cool (or just cold) New Hampshire while you were here!

    • Sorry. That did appear without explanation. Kucinich's wife was interviewed and she gave a proper response. I made the comment that he wouldn't win and therefore we would not have her sensibility in office.

I agree with voting for Kucinich. It seems though that many people have that "Nader" vibe when I talk about D.K. They say that I shouldn't "throw my vote away" and vote for the Democrat. That isn't good enough for me. But...if I vote for Kucinich, and a Republican wins the presidency, I will hear about it for at least 4 years.

I think Clinton's BS answer about leaving it up to the states is the LAST thing we want to do. Count out the South and Utah and throw in another couple of mid-west states that'll never see gay marriage.

If we make an amendment for health benefits and privileges for domestic partners country-wide, that would at least help...in my opinion...and I'm sure I may be incorrect.

      Thanks for your response.

    • vagrantaesthetic: This wasn't the original subject but I've got to ask:why the statement Dennis Kucinich will never be allowed to win? I know it's already evident that the mainstream politicians are afraid of his honesty and tell it like it is approach but don't you think that should make those of us who think America could certainly do better should never give up the fight? As to the original subject I believe far too much is made of what should be peoples' right to choose. If two people want to be married they should be able to be in any state. Then we could concentrate on fighting the battles that could actually do us harm.

    • It's heartbreaking to see that the only person in the current political spectrum who has any grasp of the situation isn't even American!

Too bad Kucinich will never be allowed to win.

On the note of gay marriage, I work with several gay men and it seems it not really the act of marriage they care about "why copy the breeders" but the real legitimacy of getting benefits (health & tax) when you have a serious partner. The company I work for supports domestic partnerships' benefits (straight & gay) which helps a lot of us out who aren't married.

Unfortunately I think the level of religious bigotry and obvious homophobia in this day and age in this country will prevent gays & lesbians from getting married for some time now.
