Guys it's not so easy to move to Canada anymore. They don't want us. You have to have money and a good education or you won't get in. They don't want a drain on their economy.

well, if you go online and check with the Canadian immigration - you'll see that if you want in the paperwork isn't as difficult as it looks. You can get a job visa pretty easily. They have a list of desirable trades and skills that they are looking for and have links to people and phone numbers you can call for further information...
It's not like i decided Canada because i thought it'd be safer. When the Sh*t really hits the fan here, our neighbor to the north won't be able to dodge the bullet i'm afraid. I just feel that - as a traveler - i'd feel better telling those abroad that i'm Canadian - not American.
I've lost so much faith in this country i don't even know where to begin to get it back. I love what this nation could be - but at the moment, i'm so ashamed to call myself an American.

"Edwards was not the "solution." His ideas are the solution, and that's why he's working for Habitat for Humanity today. Let's continue to put effort into making the country better by agitating for universal healthcare, living wages, and diplomacy, rather than aggression."i agree...however - at this current political juncture - it seems to me that few candidates are the type of people i would be willing to trust to do what need to be done...Therefore, i remain saddened that Edwards has left the running...It wasn't just his politics - i feel like he is a just an honorable man, and i trusted him enough to have faith in his ability to get things done.
It's not really that O'bama or Hillary have bad things to say - or that i don't agree with their stances on the issues...for the most part i can agree with allot of their views. I just don't trust them enough. Hillary - frankly - scares the bejeezes out of me...and O'bama started out good a few months ago - but lately he seems to be just trying his hardest to meet Clinton head to head and is sacrificing his character to do it...
or, at least, that's how i see it.

Not too proud to beg with you MM, but unless something miraculous happens . . . like a Gore/Edwards ticket popping up, we've got a snowball's chance in hell of reversing the media elected front runners at this point. Al Gore has always been our hero and I hope he will come at the 11th hour and save us but considering the lies and deceptions we deal with in politics I understand why he probably finds the process distasteful. Then again I may not be holding Al Gore's integrity and love of this country in a high enough place?

While I would love Al Gore to jump into the race. It's kind of too late.
The amount of money one has to be able to run a campaign is huge. Even a simple local election exspensive. Even though the media has special rates for political ads, it's all the little things that add up in the end.
Plus it seems to me that Al Gore is having a good time for himeself.. now that he's out of poltics.

Well, what if Al Gore decided to jump in the big middle of this mess? Maybe he can't stand the thought of another Republican either. The way things are looking in the economy maybe people will start paying a little more attention. Too late for this go round unless Al Gore becomes a candidate. Before you get mad at Edwards consider that his wife is seriously ill. That may have something to do with his quitting.

John Edwards was totally marginalized by the media. Which is appalling! Edwards WON the last debate... and still all the media could talk about was Obama and Hillary.
The media should be taken to task for taking away our best choice for president.
I hate to say this, but the Republicans want Hillary to win, they want to run against her. They have all the mud balls and dirt ready. Plus Hillary will have a hard time in general in winning a gereral election.
I for one, am looking forward to the Democation convention. Which should prove interesting. Hopefully Edwards will be a VP choice, which will make either Hillary or Obama more electable in a general election.

I'm very sad about this. I was hoping Edwards would stick it out longer. I'm not sure who I will support, but as Incredulous said above, we have to Buck up. We can't let Republicans have another 4 years.
As far as Edwards being VP with Obama, I think it could be possible. I've never seen a VP who didn't differ from the Presidential candidate on issues. That isn't the point, the point is "what can you do for me in the election". Obama could certainly use Edwards help among progressives and in southern states. - 4 years ago

What I don't understand though- he said he was in it for the long haul? Why did he drop it so suddenly? Was he lying beforehand?
Maybe he is saving the rest of his funds in case he is on the ticket as a VP. Now I know he stated that he wouldn't run for vice again, but he also said he'd see the race the whole way through didn't he? You never know. I wouldn't be surprised if Edwards popped back in the game somehow.

It's a sad day for progressives, indeed. But it's really a barometer of politics in America, isn't it? Edwards' message of opposing corporate dominance, however appropriate and courageous it is, just didn't get any traction. Here are a couple of great articles along these lines. One is from the American Prospect on Edwards (http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=whither_edwards_supporters ), the other is from the Nation magazine by Tom Hayden, endorsing Obama (http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080211/hayden ).

I agree and I share your sadness.
It appears that money and power has again prevailed in anointing the winning candidates in our stead.
I'll not give a single dollar to either the Dems or the Repubs until we have more say in our legislative process. Pelosi and Reid have been huge disappointments, especially when it comes to bringing criminals like Bush and Cheney to justice.

I don't think I'll be voting for Clinton or Obama, and if they were to run together on a ticket well that would make it easier not to vote for a Democrat. I voted for Kerry in 2000 because I didn't want a Republican back in office and I got screwed only to later learn that Kerry and Bush were never that different from each other. I'm not going to vote Republican, however I have thought about voting for Ron Paul. I'm almost positive Paul won't get the nod from the Republican Party, that bid looks like it's going to McCain. However I see Paul runnning on a third-party ticket, he has too much support not to. For now, I will decide to remain undecided.

From what I watched in the debates Edwards sided with Obama more than not. But I'm a bit biased, Clinton with anyone isn't my cup of tea - but truth be told, anyone is better than McCain or anyone in the republican party for another 4 years. I still think Edwards would make an outstanding Attorney General.

Why is everyone assuming it will be a Obama/Edwards ticket? During the past 2 debates Edwards seemed to back Hillary a lot on topics and decisions she made and pointed out a number of flaws of Obama with the way he voted on things and his policies.

I've read through all of this and while I don't support either party--nor really feel inspired by any of their candidates--I really dont think Edwards is all that dramatically different from Obama and Hillary in that order.
Again, I'm not a democrat--but its my view that the left's inability to rally behind the better than bad its good is a major difference between the right and the left over the last 20 years... its splitting hairs... ($400 haircut ones)

@Chique:
Damn right, we need a pit bull. The clash against the right is *inevitable.* We need to face our problems head on rather than avoiding them for the false sense of "unity." *No way* will Obama (the likely nominee) choose him.
If somehow Clintons wins it (she now has my vote by default by virtue of solid, *progressive* domestic policies, fighting rhetoric; Obama's pattern of appeasing the right, dividing the left), she better pick Edwards as AG (I can see her doing so).

Edward's did a wonderful campaign despite the lack of support from the media. Douches!!
But it's so amazing to see the responses for this post. We knew what he could do and he didn't need no mud-slinging to get his point across. I think this country has the power to move forward and hopefully Edward's will be Obama's running mate. This is an exciting time for politics. Jan, go vote, vote for him anyway. Just as a go to hell statement to the powers that be. I have no one to vote for either. I'm considering just voting for John Edwards every time. I hate Clinton, although I do feel sorry for her with her husband lurking in the background looking like a sexual predator. I don't like or trust Obama his health care plan is a joke. Did he have to pick my birthday to do this? I have tears in my eyes... I vowed I would not invest my heart and soul into any other poltical campaign because of the corrupt corporate stench that prevails, and again was proven right. This gives even more credence to why Al Gore is not in this, and now John Edwards is out. It seems good men like them do much better work outside the system. I just hope his wife is well, and that he was not unduly pressured in any way to end his bid. Perhaps we will see him as AG in the next administraiton if a Democrat wins because it is not guaranteeed. All I know is, I am finished. I too have fallen out of love with politics and today is very sad. I just hope Mr. Edwards continues to fight for the middle class in America and for those who are forgotten. Al Gore has done and is doing tremendous work out here to make progress with climate change, and I think John Edwards can do just as much for poverty. I will try to stay upbeat, but I now have no reason to vote in my primary this coming Tuesday. What a let down.
