GOP Immigrant-bashing is Hurting Their Party, Democrats to Reap the Benefits

This renewed xenophobia towards Mexicans will bode very badly for the GOP come the general election as Hispanics are the fastest growing minority and an influential voting demographic. And yes I say Mexicans, because the vast majority of "illegal immigrants" are Mexicans and this IS a RACIAL ISSUE--if you doubt this then you might want to ask yourself: why don't they worry about securing Canada's border? If you remember terrorists didn't go through the mexican border.

Mexicans are being scapegoated once more in the history of the United States. Know your history people, in the 1930's during the depression over a million Mexicans, including american citizens (sons/daughters of mexican immigrants) were "re-patriated" to Mexico a place that had become foreign to many of them (they WERE AMERICANS.) They were shipped in trains, boats, and many drove cars south. The journey was a dangerous and sometimes a disgusting one. Some people packed into trains having to stand in their own shit and piss for hours at a time (which eerily reminds me of the trains that took holocaust victums). Mexicans were humiliated and disrespected simply for the color of their skin.

Not to mention the way Mexicans were beaten, raped and lynched during the 1840's and 50s after the U.S. stole half of Mexico in the gravely unjust and undertaught Mexican-American War. If the GOP is so hung up on respecting the law then maybe they should honor the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo a lawful agreement, that respected Mexicans right to perseve their property, language and culture. But oh yeah, the U.S. only honors laws that align with their own ignorance, bigotry, racism and homophobia. So we see an UNNECESSARY rise in hate crimes against gays and latinos, because well, it comes down to one simple elemantry thing: they're different, and we dont like people who are different. Republicans GROW UP.

Sorry, I'm latino and I'm gay so I feel like I'm getting attacked for who I am twice as much these days.

    • MEASURED JUDGMENT

We can’t stop a river that’s already here but we can build a dam to control it. The river is the money that the illegal aliens want
1Tim 6:10 "For the (longing for) money is a root of all kinds of evil"
Rom 12:19 “Never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God
Matt 7:1 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.” (#1, AVOID JUDGMENT WHENEVER POSSIBLE)
Matt 7:2 “For you will be judged as you judge others” (#2, JUDGE FAIRLY, OR NOT AT ALL)
Matt 7:5 “Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye” (#3, JUDGE YOURSELF FIRST)
Matt 7:6 “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.” (#4, DON’T EXPLAIN YOUR JUDGMENT OR THEY WILL TURN IT AGAINST YOU)
Matt 7:9 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for.” (#5, ASK GOD TO GUIDE YOUR JUDGMENT)
Matt 7:12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.” (#6, MAKE YOUR JUDGMENT WITH LOVE)
Gal 5:14 "For the entire law is fulfilled in one statement: You shall love your neighbor as yourself"

This is about ILLEGAL aliens. LEGAL immigration is controlled. If Mexico would just follow the example of Canada, we would be happy to show them the same R.E.S.P.E.C.T we show Canada. They patrol their border. They respect our laws AS IS. We are very accepting people. We just will not be raped. Mexico expels immigrants from its southern border, sometimes murdering them, and has the gall to criticize our immigration policy.

Illegal immigration is about choosing to break the law. If we can choose to break the law we also should be able to break a law that benefits ourselves. Now is a time for self-discipline. Discipline(teaching) of others needs to be controlled and fair. It is hard when illegal aliens come into our country and take away the work Americans used to do. Then they look to those whose work they took and say don’t give me such a look. If you were me I do expect you’d want a measure of respect. Well that’s not something you can deal. Respect’s not something you can steal. Respect is something you must earn. That’s a lesson you must learn.

    • By the way ollin, no one is attacking you for who you are or what you do. I respect that, just as I expect you respect the fact that I love my Country, and who I am, an what it stands for. Being gay isn't the issue here.
My beef is every time something don't go like immigrants want they chissel away at my rights. I'm an American an have a harder time renewing my license than illegals for petes sakes. My thing is, go to the back of the line an wait like others I know. You may hate republicans that's your AMERICAN right here, however be thankful you've been safe under this admin. Your insults to my President is an insult, and you people here need to be educated!

    • To you libs who can't hear straight. No one said immigrants aren't welcome here, just do it LEGALLY!!!
I know people who went through alot to get their citizenship, who are sick of these illegal immigrants. Get the facts straight. There's a huge difference in going to a Country the right way, an sneeking in to sell drugs commit crimes etc. and have our cultures change to suit them. How many American's go to France and say I want you to change their laws? Give me a friggen break.
As for Oreilly, he tells it like it is, an the liberals foam at mouth when he talks due to the liberals lies. Get over yourselves. Get educated by another source of news like FOX, you may learn something!!!

    • part deuce:

Your dissmisal of me and other mexicans and chicanos by placing us in the radical category, shoving all "hispanics" into the same seemingly conjoined blob, will make life easier on you I hope. For the time being. But you and others will understand that the only thing that joins latinos-- because in the end we are VERY different--is that we are all treated unjustly.

Also I hold the right to strongly disagree with any latino leaders who say they speak for me, north or south of the border. And any polls that asked 5 people who identified as "hispanic" (whatever that means) think about black poeple. They don't speak for me. And i don't speak for all latinos either. I don't care what the mexican president says, the mexican people will tell you that they don't give a crap either, multiply our disilusionment by ten and you can get a sense of how much Mexicans care for their government. So as far as i'm concerned calderon can shove it.

And I'm not sure what to make of that last paragraph except to say I personally harbor no animosity towards asians or blacks, never have. I was not raised that way (my parents are mexican immigrants now us citizens and as traditional as they get.) And there was a time in the 60s when the black panthers protested alongside brown berets, so i have no doubt that the any "hatred" vanishes and our communities have been show to unify because we all see that ALL minorities are disenfranchised in this country.

FYI: The Incas are a seperate indigenous group from the Aztecs they were located in what is now south america. Due to their distance from the aztec civilization there is no evidence that there was any contact between Aztecs or Incas or between them and Mayans for that matter (Mayans were located in what is now the Yucatan peninsula). Aztecs never fought the Incas. Aztecs were however conquered, oppressed, and their culture and people pretty much obliterated by the Spanish. Much like early Americans did to the Native Americans.

    • Wow, patronizing, jeez. Didn't expect that from current.com. Thought people were more respectful of each other than that. Guess not.

But you did ask for the history lesson, so I'll give it to you. Yes the southwest was once Aztlan, this is where the indigenous poeple started their nomadic journey to Mexico City. I am not arguing for Aztlan however.

I am discussing the issue of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, that was signed by the U.S. and is U.S. law even thought the whole thing was ignored.

And no (i hate it when people make this assumption) I am not arguing that the U.S. should become Mexico that is ridiculuous. No Mexican or Mexican-American in their right mind would want that (even ther radical ones who might say they do) because the goverment of Mexico is corrupt and far from being salvaged. Chicanos and Mexican immigrants are proud of their heritage, not of their governemnt which does not represent them only the rich elite.

Immigrants come here because the U.S. has a better government and the ideals of this nation are rightous (however its policies might sometimes contradict the ideals the republic was founded on). They represent the people much better, there is actually a middle class (or has been a middle class, eek recession!)

I only bring up the treaty to bring up the true irony that no one cares to notice. That it may be now that immigrants are breaking the law to get in, but this in no way compares the laws that were broken have been broken so that the once young United States could fufill its "god-given" right of expanision. The blood that has been shed, the injustices that have happened are far more.... disgusting, for lack of a better word than what immigrants are doing now.

And if we truly recognized the law of the land, that in the end these immigrants have every right to participate in the american dream as long as they learn english, work, become active citzens and participate in the ideals and beliefs of the U.S. consititution.

But Mr. Rooter, you don't have to worry. Most people don't listen to a queer chicano like me. Just like you they simply me and gloss me over calling me a radical who believes the southwest should be mexico when all i am trying to do is tell the unspoken truth and give voice to a community who has virtually no voice in the news media.

I toast to your racial cynism and your grand dissmisal of any history that might question your own beliefs. For such cynism can only be broken by the evidential change that you will certainly see, or that you currently fail to see (I a latino voted for Obama, how shocking, bad "hispanic" i should have voted for the dynasty!" and kept to my natural-born hatred towards the black race (waaaah?))

    • Boy-o-boy-o-boy. Where to-where to start. Way back to the Aztecs? They fought with the Incas, right? Whose land was whose? Should Mexicans be moving south instead? I've heard all this crap that SW America used to be AZTLAN in Aztec times and now all the illegal aliens, supported by their Presidente' Calderon, want to recapture it. Calderon is lobbying that illegal aliens have a right to vote because they live here!

Mexico has a uniformed government agency called Grupos Beta that outfits immigrants to help them survive crossing the border and coaches them as to their rights once they get here. Why? Well, their constitution recommends deportation if they cannot contribute something to the country. And a program called "Tres-por-uno"(3-for-1) pays triple the money that's sent back to Mexico.

No surprise that Calderon has told his people to support McCain, who favors illegal rights no matter what he says to get elected. And on the Democrat side he's told his people to support Clinton II, but he didn't have to. In interviews, it's clear no "spic" is going to vote for a "nigger". And in interviews, "chinks" revealed they had same disgust. It appeared to me that all three groups hated each other equally and just wouldn't vote for each other.

So according to this prejudice, Hispanics would vote McCain for Republican candidate, Clinton II for Democrat candidate. Blacks would vote Huckabe for Republican candidate, Obama for Democrat candidate. Orientals would vote Huckabee for Republican candidate, Clinton II for Democrat candidate.

So in this Republican primary, McCain would have the Hispanic vote while Huckabee would have the black and the oriental vote. On the Democrat side, Obama would have the black vote while Clinton II would have the oriental and Hispanic vote. If the general election were held with the current leaders in the polls, McCain would have the Hispanic vote while Clinton II would have the oriental and black vote.

We can’t stop a river that’s already here but we can build a dam to control it. The river is the money that the illegal aliens want
1Tim 6:10 "For the (longing for) money is a root of all kinds of evil"
Gal 5:14 "For the entire law is fulfilled in one statement: You shall love your neighbor as yourself"

This is a time for self-discipline. The discipline(teaching) of others needs to be controlled and fair. We should treat illegal aliens like the neighbor's child throwing a temper tantrum on our lawn. Ignore him and he will go away. If he behaves, he can visit. If he behaves, give him food. If he behaves, tell him he's welcome to come back again.

Matt 7:6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."

This is about breaking the law. If we choose to break the law we should be able to break a law that benefits ourselves as well. Better to spend some money on improving conditions in their homeland. It would give them incentive to stay home and "not break the law" and it would benefit more people.

      TRY THIS HOLLYWOOD SOLUTION
      1) “THREES COMPANY”-
No alien or child of an alien ever gets citizenship benefits. Fingerprint and Alien ID for any alien (to reduce illegal immigration incentive)
      2) “HOME ALONE”-
No use of any mail or package carrier (to stop money sent home to support, import family) I have support from politicians on this and it doesn't cost anything
      3) “SOUTH OF THE BORDER”-
Fingerprint and issue $1000 coupon, or whatever it takes, at the border to cash far INSIDE Mexico (enticement to REVERSE Hispanic immigration) Figure what it costs to keep one illegal alien here
      4) “RISKY BUSINESS”-
Pay NAFTA to add benefits INSIDE Mexico (less need to immigrate) Build hospitals, maybe Walmart? DEEP inside Mexico

    • Continued - This is not possible for American workers who don't "bunk" together in one or two bedroom houses with seven or eight co-workers and are deposited at their workplaces each day by "patrones" who may even pay them in cash and use shady accounting practices to avoid taxes themselves.

Yo se muy bien el jugado. Yo lo vi cada dia.

Stop and think. Isn't there always going to be some poor soul who covets the job YOU have no matter how menial?

Don't think for a New York minute that an 11-year-old Asian girl forced to work in a factory for 14 to 16 hours a day for a little more than a dollar a day and then live in a "dormitory" 50 miles from her parents grass hut wouldn't trade UP to that $7 per hour job an illegal alien is currently working in the U.S..

So what is the bottom line?

Illegal immigrants aren't taking jobs that Americans won't do. They are taking jobs at a pay rate that law-abiding Americans who have a family and who pay property taxes, insurance, fica and futa and who try to raise a family CAN'T AFFORD to take!!!!!!!!

Just as the illegal Honduran would no longer trek across Latin America and then swim across the Rio Grande to take a job that paid what the 11-year-old Asian girl would jump at the chance to earn, we have a CRISIS and that crisis is not ALL about breaking the law to enter America, it is about importing a "slave class" to achieve the Catchall phrase of America needing to compete in a "global economy".

That is simply corporate spin based on greed - PURE and SIMPLE.

It has NOTHING to do with a globalized economy but it has EVERYTHING to do with an ever-increasing spread between costs and selling prices. These tactics are not only killing the middle class just as it was killed in Mexico and other impoverished countries but also they are making it easy for corporate fascism to increase its stranglehold on the political and financial landscape in America and around the globe.

Ollin, I support everything about the right of gays to do whatever heterosexual couples are permitted to do and for gays to be afforded the same rights and protections under our constitution but until the Latino community truly understands the depth and breadth of their exploitation and realizes that as soon as Asians and other nationalities begin to undercut the wages of the Latinos and then become the "darlings" of corporate "plantation owners", there will be economic slavery. Latinos will feel the pain the American worker is feeling now.
Illegal immigration is illegal no matter what color skin wraps the lawbreaker. It is not really about illegal immigration. It is about corporatism, fascism and economic slavery.

    • Actually, I am STILL against all types of illegal immigration whether it happened in the past or now.

As far as taking the Native Americans' land, the ancestors of your ancestors did the very same thing. Spaniards conquered the Incas and the Aztecs and true Mexicans are their children.

Just across the border from Del Rio is a small "pueblecito" that has many tall blond-haired, blue eyed inhabitants that were the offspring of German engineers who lived there in the 1930's and who engineered several large dam projects before WWII.

My point is that in today's world we have laws that are meant to be followed and just because someone works hard and is paid very little, it doesn't give him the right to break those laws without penalty.

Ronald Reagan realized the first immigration crisis would hurt business owners, his base. They needed cheap, exploitable labor. He came up with Amnesty to handle those who were already here. It was supposed to stop there.

Today, we have turned our back on those laws that prevented future illegal immigration from that point forward.

We cannot keep "forgiving" illegal immigration by declaring what is basically another "Amnesty Program" every few years to "include" the new illegal immigrants.

It should not be so hard for those who want to stay to turn themselves in, get deported and then re-apply in a lawful manner.

For those who do not voluntarily comply, there should be deportation with a PERMANENT prohibition of immigration.

The illegal workers who work at cheap wage rates are NOT some group that is willing to work at jobs Americans don't want.

That idea is a MYTH of gargantuan proportions. They work for those wages because conditions and pay are better here than they had in their home country whether that country is Sri Lanka, India, Nigeria, Guatamala, Mexico, Canada or Venezuela.

The TRUE crime is that industry has used this exploitable "slave class" and we've winked at their illegal immigration to keep the minimum wage at poverty levels for more than FIFTEEN years!!!!!!!

Corporate profits, however, have just missed DOUBLE DIGITS for only one quarter in the last 22 quarters and THAT quarter saw corporate profits barely missing double digits at 9.9%!!!!!!!!!!!

In the same time period, the median wage for ordinary Americans has not even kept pace with less than a 2% average annual inflation rate, AND has actually LOST GROUND in more quarters than it has gained!!!!!!

Slowly but surely, Americans, who buy auto insurance, try to buy health insurance, try to have life insurance and try to educate their children while paying taxes "in the system" are continually "outfoxed" (lo siento, Vicente) by immigrants who often use fake Social Security cards and claim married and the maximum number of dependents when they may not even be married. They have learned to minimize their tax contributions (yes I know they may never retire) but still more than half of the lowest wage earners falsify their marriage and dependent status.

    • Thank you Inofuilwell. That is a good point, illegal immigrants are exploited for cheap labor. But that is not their fault, it is the fault of corporations and a government that allows them to be exploited.

In a less complex world, I would agree with you that everyone who comes in illegally should be deported but the problem isn't simple.

The vast majority of immigrants are latino, and so people like Lou Dobbs or Bill O'Reily (NATIONAL news hosts) start complaining and getting people riled up over a non-issue and they tend to oversimplify the problem. They are not as bright as you to care to make the distinction that not all immigrants come from Mexico, they just see that the majority do. So they target Mexicans. Or at least their audiences do, and so suddenly this grows form an attack on illegal immigration to xenophobia to just plain racism against Mexicans (not all of them but the rise in hate crimes against Latinos suggests that a good number do).

So Mexicans who risk their lives to come here hoping to find a better life for their families (not criminals as most of them are represented as) are blamed for what is largely AMERICA'S fault.

It is easy to look at this time in history and see the behavior of immigrants as not making sense. Why do they feel like they can just come in here and work and not have to answer to the law? You might ask. Because that's how the U.S., on and off makes them feel.

It's like having a best friend who for one hour completely welcomes you in their house lets you take what you like, gives you an open welcome, "your casa is my casa" and then the next hour calls the police and has you arrested for trespassing. Now imagine this on a larger scale the American government is being the illegal immigrants best friend and its not one hour to the next its decade to the next, so that each new decade we forget what happened in the last.

This may be a bad analogy but like most of what happens to the U.S. its biggest problems happen as a result of bad and selfish foreign policy. So one decade a president encourages immigration by not having tough border security and turning a blind eye on illegal immigration and now we have so many illegal immigrants that suddenly we've decided to change our mind and suddenly we want comprehensive immigration reform? Now its such a problem? Were the most powerful country in the world and yet our biggest threat is Carlos? The guy who mows your lawn and picks the fruit you eat everyday for almost nothing?

Why now all of a sudden?

So you see how hypocrital (not to mention impossible) it would be to deport every illegal immigrant? How unfair? If the U.S. was a person we would be considered by most to be a bipolar asshole. So we need something that will fight future illegal immigration and deal with the immigrants who are already here in a different way: "listen i know we welcomed you in our house and all but now we're broke, so how bout you help us out by earning your right to live here by working, paying the gas bill..."

And just one more point. It is contradictory to say that every person in the U.S. who is illegal should be deported. We are ALL illegal. This is native american land. If we want consistency in our government and the law we must respect it but we don't, because the honest truth is we don't want ALL immigrants to leave, because that would include us, no we want the brown people to go. And I am not trying to imply that you or anyone who has a reasonable stance against immigration is racist, I am pointing to an even bigger problem:

institutionalized racism. A greater menace that even the most liberal-minded person can't avoid. But we can work against it with proper perspective and knowledge of U.S. history.

    • I personally think ANY person who is here illegally whether he be from England, Canada or Mexico should be deported and made to enter the country in a lawful manner. Neither should he be able to have children here who become automatic U.S. Citizens.

The Republicans WANT illegal immigrants because they are an exploitable and cheap labor source and the Democrats WANT them here because there is a better chance they'll vote for a Democrat.

Only the talk radio hosts and a few border states are pushing the illegal immigration button with any regularity.

As far as gays, they should have EVERY SINGLE RIGHT straight people do.
