McCain’s political rebound defied popular wisdom

As Super Tuesday reaches its final hours, it's looking like Mr McCain is the clear front runner for the Republican party... and this seems to go against what many would have predicted. Is this the "most remarkable resurrection in recent American politics"? And if he does get the nomination, is he going to make it tougher on the Democrats in the race to the White house?

    • Tory, I disagree with McCain on many topics, esp. the war, but I think his appeal is that he has a history of doing what he thinks if right, even if it goes against his party's line (global warming, social issues). That alone, would be a sea-change from the current Admin that takes its marching orders from the old-school, backroom insiders (PNAC, energy and defense industry, etc) and party leaders.
Sure, he's pandering a bit to get some votes, but if him winning is the worst-case scenario in the upcoming election, I for one, will count my blessings.

    • I liked McCain when he was in Arizona. I do not like him as a presidential candidate. I'm not sure what everyone sees in this Bush supporter.

    • What defied popular wisdom even more, in my opinion, was Mike Huckabee. Even today, if you look through the headlines, they're mostly about McCain or Romney. I mean, we all know that Huckabee is a total longshot who probably can't win the nomination, and there aren't that many more states that are expected to go his way. But as many as did go his way weren't expected either, and last night he won a slew of delegates, only 20 less than Romney did - you can't count this guy out, at least not yet!
