Castro Steps Down

AlexKoppelman
Fidel Castro's resignation could have implications for the Presidential election. Many Americans want to see liberalization of relations with Cuba, but many in the Cuban-American exile community don't want to see those things until the whole regime is gone. It will be interesting to see how the candidates deal with the issue.

    • I think it's more because little Cuba defeated the US when JFK ordered to murder Fidel Castro and failed miserably. Since then, the US has been too embarrassed to get over it.

    • As I understand, the fidel regieme was connected to the communism of Russia, remember the whole nuc. bomb threat the US had in the 50s and 60s. I thought that it was this connection to Russia power at the time that that got people in politics going embargo. Correct me if I' m wrong, please!

    • I can't believe we still have the embargo up after all this time. To think that our leaders still believe communism to be this big scary enemy to our system is just silly. Our democracy has never been threatened by communism, it seems as though it's just an excuse to go to war/ get people riled up over something.

    • Open the borders! Open trade! Let the past be the past! We live in a World Economy. Lets start acting like it. Trade with all, alliance with none.

How is it, we fear communist cuba and not communist china? Seems to me there is a double standard.

And if communist=enemy, then what ever happened to keeping your friends close and your enemies closer?

Are we really so politically out of shape?
