Still a Congo Crisis

chickenbonesjones
In eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, more than 370,000 people have fled their homes since last December. The conflict centers around fighting between a Tutsi renegade commander, Rwandan rebels, and the Congolese National Army. If the fighting continues, UN officials say it will be one of the worst humanitarian emergencies in the world.

    • the story of the wars in the democratic republic of congo has gotten very little attention [even amongst the very literate current community] for a host of reasons. they include the fact that its a complicated conflict with many layers of overlapping issues that the mainstream media seems to think are to complex for americans to understand or care about.

essentially all of africa's modern conflicts boil down to the problems that post colonialism has left in its wake. the ameropean conquerors may have physically left the continent, but their influence & active participation in installing bogus leaders that pillage & monopolize the wealth & natural resources of the land remain.

all of the violence & war in africa only plays into the plans of the puppet masters. generations have lived & died never knowing peace. potential freedom fighters & human rights activists are murdered, raped, & brainwashed into being child soldiers. this hatred breeds easily misguided anger & revenge fantasies, thus the cycle continues. true self government & local control over the distribution of the africa's unimaginably vast wealth are the only ways our african sisters & brothers will ever know peace & prosperity.

I'm planning on targeting my studies around there, and this completley compels me still to continue that.

    • what can we do? If there is anything besides spreading the word and getting the public involved I want to know. We need to do whatever we can to protect these people against another genocide!

    • Thank you so much for this wonderful pod on the Congo - it was very informative. I have been an activist for Darfur for several months now, and need to get more involved with other parts of Africa. Please keep up the good work.

    • Well, what you can do, is put pressure on your leaders for them to pay attention. Join, for example, friendsofthecongo.org, donate to the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, or other smaller organizations like congostar.org,
