Barack Obama's Flyer Disputing Hillary Clinton's Health Plan: Harry and Louise Again?

This site actually spells out the facts, and Obama apparently did leave parts of her plan off that mailer. The picture used was also very much like the "Harry and Louise" ad used by the insurance industry in the 90s to trash her plan then. Neither of their plans are that good, but for someone who claims he is not status quo and wants to 'change' the way of politics, to put out an erroneous mailer is not conducive to walking the walk if you talk the talk. And that goes for Clinton too. And it is also very interesting to see people sticking up for Obama without really knowing what the mailer even stated. It looks like not much has really changed in the way of looking for truth before jumping to conclusions. I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton's either, but if the mailer is erroneous, it is erroneous regardless of who does it. I also discovered that through Obama's plan he would penalize parents who do not cover their children. That sounds a lot like a mandate to me as well.

    • I think we should hold the candidates to a standard of truthfulness. That said, Clinton's "Shame on you" protests seemed as over the top as they are out of touch. Leaving some things out isn't like making things up. And given that the Clinton's "plagiarism' charges haven't found an audience (well...not a receptive one anyway) it sort of feels like she moving on to the next political maneuver. I expect it will be about as successful as the last.

    • Direct mail is always overtly political. It has been a very nominal part of his campaign comparitvely. I don't defend negative tactics but think that direct mail that only depicts an oponents position as unfavorable is far more preferable to direct and dirty atack ads that others favor and more importantly turn to first.

    • That may be true, but the point of this is the dirty tactics used in this campaign, which I guess most seem to be Ok with when they are geared towards someone that isn't liked. Especially since Obama claimed the mailer was not false... of course, he also didn't admit he left key parts of her plan out to make it look worse than his even though they are basically the same. So I don't see how that is the poltiics of change.

    • I am for the house healthcare plan not either of the candidates platforms. John Edwards had the best plan and had the healthcare endorsements to prove it. I think even though Baracks plan is not as good as hers his is more likely to pass. She is divisive period. She failed to bring about healthcare reform with a democratic supermajority and I give her a zero percent chance of accomplishing that in a congress as divisive as this one.
