In rural Alaska, many schools have a notebook computer assigned to almost every student in high school, and even junior high. This was part of the Act, and it's nice to know these isolated individuals are connected with the civilized world in some way.
-I know, I graduated before the Act...
It is nice to see positive results. - 4 years ago

NCLB is a total fiasco- I would never begin to justify the entire concept.
Ultimately the education crisis in our country is possibly the single most important issue with the least attention facing the nation over the next decade. Even the financial crisis we currently face is a direct result of the lack of emphasis on proper education over the last 30 years. Apathy is rampant, and like the math teacher stated in the video, there has been enough talk with no action... and here we are continuing the process.
The reasons and potential solutions are so cumbersome and numerous to possibly get into. I will say this: I commend the instructors of our children who are dedicated and passionate about their contributions to the nation, and world, and they possess a special and important influence that deserves a special recognition from parents and people everywhere, for they lay the cornerstones on the foundation of every society.
I had to point something out that I found bothersome though- a simple comment that may have slipped by and never questioned....
The biology teacher is instructing special needs, and implied that her class size had shrunk, and it was hard to teach to a small group. I heard the reasoning behind how in a class of 18 at least 1 student may know the answer, but in a class of 3 none do. I hear that you are under restrictions on the curriculum and material you are required to present and attempt to help students comprehend. I hear that your students are not fluent in English... in fact, I feel I hear a litany of excuses that simply are not going over very well with this parent of an autistic child who has seen them through 15 years of education. Having only 3 kids in a class should be a blessing- it should provide a wealth of time to teach individually... in fact, to an IEP which each one of those special needs children should have. I believe a truly concerned teacher would advocate for those children in their best interests... and I am sure you try Ms. Biology Teacher... but perhaps not hard enough.
I work for a utility company... If I took the same attitude, and let the inclement weather, or the lack of proper tools, or the hazardous conditions I would need to work in, or the fact I had little or no help, or the circumstances and regulations stating I was not to double check at the customer's house and instead reschedule and refer to a different tech for the following day... or next week, and you were the customer without power, or without TV, or without internet, you wouldn't much mind the inconvenience, and would support my choice to sit back and wring my hands?
I am not meaning to pick on this lady... I don't know her- but the apathy, and the responsibility of changing the current state of affairs will not be accomplished by pointing fingers and sitting on thumbs. As you can see- I write letters, and I would suggest anyone who has a stake in this issue (everyone in the world) should begin to write some to... and squeak! Because this wheel needs some grease!

I'm a math and language arts tutor in Ohio...it's nearly the same here. This is a depressing look at our educational system.

Great work. A little boring in some spots, but quite informative. I don't know why everyone's so surprised. From the start, like many other decisions, this was bad from the start.

Dumbfounding...I still do not understand why the states continue this program if they are not getting funding for it? Usually the federal government uses funding as a form of coercion to make the states change local laws. So in the absence of funding, where is the leverage?
