The Clinton campaign bought the stock footage video from Getty of the cute little girl sleeping. Turns out the video was shot about 10 years ago, the 8 year old is now almost 18, and an active Obama supporter who has been campaigning for the Illinois Senator. Casey Knowles accuses the ad of fear-mongering, a tactic she doesn't agree with, and has tossed out the idea of shooting an ad for Obama. She says she's excited that they're considering it.

    • Krag: it wasn't a "shame on you" it was my honest opinion. This entire political campaign season has been about nothing but the same sleazy unimportant sound bites. No one stated that everything discussed has to be about issues, but I notice particularly regarding Obama that issues are not discussed here all that much, and anyone who dares do that is jumped on. That is just my observation. BTW, here then is a link regarding Obama and privitizing public education which you might be interested in.

    • JanforGore, since your post I've done a little digging on Obama's position on vouchers. Here's what I've found:

Obama said he has been a strong supporter of charter schools "as a way to foster competition in the public school system."

He pronounced himself a skeptic of private school vouchers, saying: "My view is you're not going to generate the supply of high-quality schools to meet the demand."

Obama said he was surprised to learn from Gov. Jim Doyle that "there was no assessment process" for the Milwaukee program but indicated he might be open to supporting voucher programs if studies show they work.

"If there was any argument for vouchers, it was 'Let's see if the experiment works,' " Obama said. "And if it does, whatever my preconception, you do what's best for kids."

First, let me say thank you Jan for bringing this issue up. I've seen his speech on education, but had not heard him talk specifically about vouchers. I'm very skeptical of vouchers. He says he is too. I view the fact that he's open to the idea being studied (which is what he's saying here) as a plus not a minus. What's wrong with being open minded? Haven't we had enough bull headedness? Seven years of our leaders never being able to admit a mistake has lead this country to a very dark place. And when it comes to admitting mistakes, Hillary is more like Bush than I feel comfortable with.

Thanks again for bringing up the issue.

    • With all due respect JanforGore. This post started with the side issue of this young girl and who she wants to vote for (an interesting if unimportant thing to note), but it has progressed past that. Most of us here post on many different issues on this site (some you might consider important and some you might not) and for you to jump in and wag your finger at us is insulting.

I've had many discussions with you and we both know that at the end of the day we simply support different people here. But I'd like to think I've always treated you with respect. And I'm pretty sure I haven't done any thing to deserve this "shame on you".

With respect to your claims that Obama favors school vouchers and the privatization of public schools. Those are pretty serious claims. I would love to see your source on that. It's a red meat issue, I think if there were any serious proof, it would be getting some coverage...but as always, I'm open to read/study whatever citation you can provide.

As to your characterization of Obama's policy on Al Qaeda being the same as Bush's. I respectfully disagree. If that's your opinion, fine. But you'd have to go much further than the notion that he be willing to go after Bin Ladden in Pakistan independently if necessary to conclude that their policies are the same. In that one instance they might be (one I happen to agree with) but, I think your broader statement is just a politically expedient exaggeration.

As for funding the war and approving Bush's appointments, those are good points. But since both candidates have almost the exact same record there, it doesn't provide much in the way of contrast.

    • Not everything we discuss on Current has to be earth shatteringly important, just ironic and interesting sometimes. Most of the discussion here was posting truth vs. fiction and doesn't validate that more important issues aren't being discussed in other posts.

    • And gee, this is SO much more important to be discussed and put on the front page of Internet sites than the actual issues. God forbid anyone want to do that. Personally, I don't care who she supports, votes for, or does an ad for. That doesn't help me figure out where this country and planet will stand in four years time.

This pettiness does nothing but validate the fact that people in this country don't give a damn about what is really important. Does this girl however know that Obama is open to school vouchers? For privitizing the public school system like Reagan wanted to and thankfully failed at? Does she know his policy on Al Qaeda is no different than Bush's? Does she know he voted over twenty times in 2007 ( when he wasn't voting present) to fund this war and to confirm the ones who carried it out including Condoleeeza Rice and Michael Chertoff?

But hey, that isn't important because to actually discuss his policy and words makes you a pariah on the Internet these days. It is very disconcerting when someone cannot even list and discuss the policies of a candidate for fear of retribution.... tell me how that is any different than what the Bush administration has done to others for wanting to speak about something other than hype? So really, I don't care who she votes for, but I do care that people know the policies of both Clinton and Obama, and we aren' t getting that in this biased atmosphere.

    • I'm sure you didn't bother to read the article or watch the link (if you did, you've offered nothing to refute it). If you don't agree with something...you attack it without even trying to understand it. And that is exactly the old school, politics as usual that most Americans have become very tired of. And that's why Hillary is behind with no real chance of catching up. Her only hope is to twist some arms.

    • I guess the CBC is also in Obama's pocket, huh?

Again...is this all you've got? Where are your facts? I've asked you to back up your comments. Either you can or you can't.

      I'll wait.

If that's all you got...I don't like you very much. Read the following post, including the link to the CBC story for the truth.

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-loeb/did-clinton-win-ohio-on-a_b_90254.html

As I said, the truth is out there if you bother to look. Clearly you'd rather just repeat the same old discredited story.

And once again...sfgaffer you got it wrong. It wasn't an Obama supporter who used the phrase "pimping out" it was David Shuster of MSNBC . I'm certain he hasn't pledged his support to any candidate. He apologized and was suspended by the way.

Again...if you have any proof of what you're saying, I'd be happy to hear you out. But you're going to have to try a little harder than a quick google search or talking points off of the Clinton website.

      But please try again.

    • sfgaffer. Check again. That's not true. After they said that they said "No, it was Hillary." I don't know if either of them said anything or if Canada's right wing government was just screwing with our election.

How do you like me now?

    • And by the way. This girl didn't say anything on tv. Ten years ago she (or really her parents) sold the image to Getty Stock Footage. The Clinton Campaign (probably Roy Spence...the same guy behind Mondale's 3:00am ad) bought the footage and cut the pathetic rehash of an ad without checking out who the girl even was. Hence this story and yet another black eye for Clinton.

If she plans to run the country like she's running her campaign, we should all take notice.

    • sfgaffer...please back up what you wrote. When has Obama said one thing and then said something different when the cameras were not rolling?

NAFTA? That story was manufactured by the right wing Canadian Government and then foisted on the voters by the Clinton campaign even after it has be discredited. And ironically after the same allegation has been made against her. Check up on it. It's on this site. You'll find the truth if you bother to look.

Iraq? Power said that Obama would consider the situation on the ground after he becomes president before he pulled out the troops. What is wrong with that? Would you want him (or whoever becomes President) to do do any less? I wouldn't. It's the only responsible thing to do. We're talking about almost a year from now. If you think Clinton would do any different, then you have an even lower opinion of her than I do.

      So, please...back up your statement.

    • Um...where's the proof that any of this is staged? I'm pretty sure you could find the same footage of people fainting in any crowd setting (it seems to happen at just about every concert I've been to). Does he go out of his way to point it out? Maybe. But that's a far cry from employing a lady to faint, as you say. This video doesn't even show the people who have fainted. If you've got some proof...post it. If not, you should consider not spreading baseless rumors, no matter who you support.

    • While I am a firm Obama supporter and consider Hillary a "slimy" politician as well, ficklepickle, but Obama can not say he hasn't done the same. Someone has employed a lady, or ladies, to faint at a number of Obama public speeches. What's he trying to get at? No one who has made it this far in politics can be considered "clean".

    • Hillary trotted out a 6 year old Mexican boy dressed as a mariachi on stage carrying 2 dozen white roses at her last speech before the Texas primaries. There's no limit to the staged pandering she'll do to get the vote of minorities or special groups.

She's purchased hour long time slots on The Hallmark Channel as well as Fox Sports Southwest to hold staged town meetings with handpicked audience members.

Is anyone actually surprised here? She's a slimy politician.
