Has the government got the bottle?

This year's budget increased the price of alcohol, supposedly in response to binge drinking. But is the government overlooking the big problem: knock-down booze prices in the supermarket?

Bollocks! 4p on a pint of beer - that means a 10 pint bender will cost an extra 40p. So what. Will that stop binge drinking? No. Sort out licensing laws and put more cops on the street so probs can be stopped before they start. The tax rise is an opportunity for the Government to get more cash using binge drinking as an excuse. I can't believe anyone buys this pathetic rouse.

Because of the recent rise, alcohol is now reported to be more expensive than a line of cocaine and other drugs. It's slightly sensational reporting but it doesn't alter the fact that alcohol is a strain on the wallet.
