Food prices are like the Energizer bunny at this point; they keep going, and going, and going--up that is! So many different circumstances are causing a huge growth in the cost of food from subsistence farmers eating rice in Ecuador to gourmets feasting on escargot in France, consumers worldwide face rising food prices in what analysts call a perfect storm of conditions. Freak weather is a factor. But so are dramatic changes in the global economy, including higher oil prices, lower food reserves and growing consumer demand in China and India.
The world's poorest nations still harbor the greatest hunger risk. Clashes over bread in Egypt killed at least two people last week, and similar food riots broke out in Burkina Faso and Cameroon this month.
But food protests now crop up even in Italy. And while the price of spaghetti has doubled in Haiti, the cost of miso is packing a hit in Japan.

With all this globalization I don't see why we can't distribute the things we have here to places where there's starvation and suffering. We need to start recognizing that we are ONE global community. You have plenty, they have less than enough, why not help?

As with most things, The US won't give a damn until we're fighting over food on every street. Face it. We've still got it real good (too good) and we ain't a'gonna care or share until it gets "personal". *fuming*
