University of Chicago: Obama was a professor

A recent Clinton campaign research document charged that Barack Obama was falsely claiming to be a professor:

Sen. Obama consistently and falsely claims that he was a law professor. The Sun-Times reported that, "Several direct-mail pieces issued for Obama's primary [Senate] campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles. Details matter." In academia, there's a significant difference: professors have tenure while lecturers do not. [Hotline Blog, 4/9/07; Chicago Sun-Times, 8/8/04]
Today, the University of Chicago released the following statement:

The Law School has received many media requests about Barack Obama, especially about his status as "Senior Lecturer." From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School. He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track. The title of Senior Lecturer is distinct from the title of Lecturer, which signifies adjunct status. Like Obama, each of the Law School's Senior Lecturers have high-demand careers in politics or public service, which prevent full-time teaching. Several times during his 12 years as a professor in the Law School, Obama was invited to join the faculty in a full-time tenure-track position, but he declined.

    • hillary lied about dodging bullets for the sake of ...whatever .... and O. simplified the name for his gig by saying he was a prof. ... how many people in this country know what a rhodes scholar is , or a senior lecturer ? if O. had gone ahead and said "senior lecturer" guess how many dumbasses would know WTF that even is ? the top %1 (being kind ) of the food chain , that's who . ever BS'ed on a resume ? when someone says " corporate waste management professional " wouldn't you , if you were reading the shit , just wanna hear " trashman " ?

      Good find if this is the case, but it is interesting Karl Rove I believe his last name is that is on Fox News.

      That of course if he makes and incorrect statement Fox news can be sued.

      Stated last night ot he night before that Senator Obama had made 9 nine statements that they had found out were incorrect.

      Some of the statements were made he said at the very being of the campaign others followed that were untrue, he read them off.

      And one of them was that he had stated he was a History Professor.

      I'm sure anyone can go to Fox News and check out exactly what Karl Role said.

      It was on Hannity & Colmes.

      I'll give Obama a few mis spokes we all do that.

      So did Hillary! I guess if I was speaking to 4,000 people 3 times like Hillary is I'd mis spoke too.

    • What do we expect from this swine but this sort of grunting?

      The Clintons claimed that Bill was a Rhodes Scholar when in fact he never went through with completing the application process. I guess they feel everyone lies on their resume the way they obviously do.

      Obama was teaching law at Harvard, but she is claiming he is lying about it somehow? Turns out she was merely disputing the exact title he should be called.

      Talk about splitting hairs.

      Even odder is that Hillary is making this claim of Obama's dishonesty after telling everyone that she was getting shot at by snipers in Bosnia -- which never happened!
