Saudi newspaper: prepare for radioactive fallout from US nuclear attack on Iran

Image
Conniepae
The Saudi government is now preparing plans to deal with "any sudden nuclear and radioactive hazards" that may arise from an attack on Iran's nuclear reactors. This was reported by a top Saudi newspaper, Okaz, and relayed by a leading German news service, DPA -- one day after Dick Cheney paid a visit to the kingdom. As we noted, no one knows exactly what was said at that confab of allied authoritarians -- but something sure lit a fire under the Saudis, and convinced them that urgent action is needed to brace for the lethal overspill from a strike on Iran.
Floyd points out that nothing in Saudi Arabia becomes the top news story without government approval. That such a story should be released the day after Cheney's visit, sends a message to everyone about what’s on Cheney's mind.

Americans need to stand up now, to get George W. and Dick Cheney to stand down! John Conyers stated that if George W. goes to war with Iran, he will call for Impeachment. I say too little, too late! He(We) need to stand up now! After the bombs start falling on Iran, it will be too late to stand up. We may need to ‘Duck and cover’! Russia has said “War with Iran” means war with them? Get the picture? These guys could start WORLD WAR III. They have not been held accountable for what they have done to Iraq, what makes anyone think they will be afraid of John Conyers after they bomb Iran?

    • i just read a story in lebanon newspaper online. maybe the reason isreal is going on alert is because hizbullah is coming off their 40 day mourning period following the assasination of mugniyah. that bastard ehud barak addressed isreal and his forces on the northern border with lebanon and told hizbullah to not test isreal. apparently they have been scared shitless since isreal killed him.

OOOOOHHHHHH its about to be some shit!!!!

    • malathion, I don't think the American people wanted to go to war with Iraq, prior to being misled about 'smoking clouds', 'mobile labs' and other things they were being told about Iraq.

When people are afraid, as they were after 9/11, it was easy to use fear as a way to motivate the masses into supporting a war of choice.

    • chet - it's not a matter of what B. could have done - a war is what the american public demanded , and it was a war B. gave them . that simple . "peace" is the last thing most americans wanted after 9/11 - they wanted blood - "peace" was to be had when "the enemy" was reduced to unconditional surrender .

    • connie. on a day to day...there are things you can do yourself.

when i was in highschool (i was a dick too) it was during the gulf war. and i was elected at my school the mayor of my town. Del City, Ok we all had posts but i was elected by my school to be the mayor. i was to go along with the actual mayor for the day, eat at this nice restaurant and chair the city council meeting. first of all, the mayor refused to shake a monkey's hand. ( yea he said that when he first laid eyes on me umm i am black you see..) second, i was to eat next to him and take pictures for the city newspaper....not only did i refuse to sit next to him, but when we were to take pictures, i stood next to him and when the photographer asked me to shake his hand, i said, "I'd never shake this assholes hand" (yes i got in trouble) and third, because i never stand for the flag salute, the city and my school BEGGED me to stand for the flag salute...so when we got on camera, which after the BS that happened earlier that day was not only on my cities shitty Cable access tv station, but across OKC as a whole. (it was also on the 10pm news (koco-tv channel 5 1991 cant remember the month april i think because it was close to graduation) before the salute, i stood there in the center seat, and said on TV...my school and fellow students requested that I stand for the flag salute, something that I never do. To be respectful, i was going to do it anyways, but because of the prejudice of your mayor, i came to the conclusion that if i stood for the flag salute, i would be standing for this guy, people like him, and the people of del city that voted for this man. I absolutely refuse to do that. I apologies for anyone that may be offended, but not only am i not going to stand for the flag salute, but i am going to sit on the floor with my back to the flag until its over. excuse me"

now i pissed alot of people off that day, and i didnt care, but the mayor ran again and lost. no one ever came to my house when running for office...our reps always walked door to door. only jehovas witnesses came by....and at graduation...i wore a black glove and held it up during the flag salute like i was juan carlos in mexico city or something......people hated me, but they respected me and knew where i stood.

my buzz lasted like 2 days on tv, but people got my position. and that mayor never lived it down. i was just some 16 year old very political kid that hated racism and idiots that disrespected me. im still that way. i dont wait for someone to do shit for me, i do it myself.

    • I'm hear 'speaking' for me! But, my voice is very limited. There are people who have a platform to SCREAM! They have voices that media would have to listen to, 'IF' they decided to SCREAM!

CURRENT.COM IS ONE OF THE FEW PLACES I CAN SCREAM! America is a large country, very few hear my SCREAMS! Sad fact is, very few care to listen.

There are people who could make a difference. If they would join voices, they could start a movement. Party politics is what is tearing us apart from the inside out.

but then again, i could never run for office....they would pull up my postings online and make up all kinds of shit! no need to question my patriotism....i have none!!

    • My hope is for Democrats and Republicans to come together and find a solution, or a new direction. All Democrats and all republicans are not party first, America second. I hope they find common ground and start working for the country, not their parties.

Democrats hating Republicans and Republicans hating Democrats is divisive. We cannot change course by party politics. Chuck Hagel is going to be on The Daily Show tonight. I have heard him speak about the war before, I hope he shines tonight. I need someone to 'Speak for me'! I'm just 'One Lonely Voice' in Cleveland, I need someone in Washington that 'Speaks for me'! After watching him on Real Time with Bill Maher, I liked what he said and checked him out on youtube.com. There are many posts of him 'speaking for me'. Unfortunately, mainstream media silences the voices of reason. They have made their money by spinning schoolyard politics. What happened to good old fashioned JOURNALISM. Journalists today are actors, being paid to spin for profit!

    • F- it , this "war" has been , from it's start , all about revenge , post 9/11 - the american public screamed for retaliation , and B. had no choice but to respond - no other president would have done any different - iraq was convenient , it looked better on TV . it's all been clusterfucked from the beginning - it was never about oil - and if it had been , iraq would never have been invaded in the first place . this "war" has been a staged media event , and has kept B. ( and the republicans ) in office - it will be the next president who has to deal with "oil" . why have so many of B.'s club resigned? because they realized this "war" , neither as a military enterprise to protect america ( or anyone else ) , nor as a means to secure "oil" , has been managed competently - it has all been a theatrical production , with no "plan" at all - the expectation that everything would work out to the pleasure of the american TV audience failed , and we are now , only now , beginning to see the implications of failure . this is what happens with "party politics" .

    • I have been following the tactical nuke issue for a couple, probably several years now and I think these guys are so mistaken, they may think they can do it all by air.

There is no good way for attacking Iran to turn out for Americans. The armchair warriors have special rooms to go to. They have amassed great wealth. They aren't ordinary Americans, they won't feel the pain that we will.

The economy is one of the main reasons for action against Iran. Iran is not trading their oil in petro dollars. A mistake Saddam Hussein made prior to our attacking Iraq. Petro dollar is an intricate part of our economy. I think the cat is already out of the bag, many countries are talking about trading their oil in currency other than the petro dollar. War with Iran would give George W. cover. If we are at war, Congress won't hold hearings.

Every mother and father in America should be speaking out against attacking Iran. It won't be easy. We will be forced to draft Americans to fight. We won't be able to say, 'ooops, we don't have any more soldiers'! George W. will go on the airwaves and tell the American people, he has to implement a draft to increase troop level. I heard on the radio the other day, 'It wouldn't be good to start the draft during an election year, but we may have no other choice. It has been 35 years since Americans were required to report for duty. I don't think people have faced up to the fact that it's just a matter of time. Not if, but when?

    • mal...you forget that a tactical nuke shows up as a very large bomb. what is probably going to be the case, is a tactical nuke will be used on the nuclear site. any fallout will be blamed on an internal explosion and im sure the us will deny anything....and everything, and because no one trusts iran, they will dare them to attack, claiming that IRAN invaded and attacked rather than retaliated. if a small but effective tactical nuke, which is to prove a point only ti iran...so they will get the point, is used, one, no one will be able to go in to examine the damage because of the radiation....it will be called an accident. and since we all know that there are satelites looking at them...they will all of a sudden be out of focus and inconclusive! but the one on the plant that isnt attacked will be very clear to look like they are not both or all out of focus....or it will be inoperable because it was being calibrated..some BS excuse.

im telling you....they are baiting iran to either massively attack isreal so they can go in, or attack into iraq so all the allies can come to iraqs defense.

      predictable

    • you know , for what it's worth , LBJ at one point asked , in regard to vietnam, " can't we just drop a bomb on the god-damn place / sons of bitches ? " , and Mcnamara ( as i recall ) responded " it would be bad for international relations " . when saddam tried to invade iran there were waves of martyr brigades , carrying only copies of the Koran , which simply overwhelmed the iraqi front - they couldn't be killed fast enough .
personally , i don't see the US engaging iran via a land war - tactical air strikes are about it . air superiority , which is very well within the US's capability , would achieve any short term goals ( however incompetent the long term planning - i.e. our presence in iraq ) - as far as nuking iran - it will never be necessary - in fact , i don't think the US would nuke iran even if ( in the very unlikely event ) iran nuked the US first . if iran was nuked , and , theoretically , done away with in one fell swoop , how would the military industrial complex stay in business ? if you simply eliminate all your enemies via just nuking them , you put the complex out of work .
yeah , i could be wrong , but i can't see nukes being launched any time soon , despite the sword rattling , and i can't see iran using them even if they had them - for all that , the best way to avoid any kind of war with iran would be to let them have nukes - actually , every country should have nukes - every country should have the leverage to discourage war in the first place . it's an inequality of arms which allows a better armed country to feel enabled to invade another , has the US invaded russia ? ....... ( random thoughts on a rainy day )

    • Conniepae.

I was very much against the invasion of Iraq, and at the time I was a bartender of a local VFW which made me not so popular. And indeed it was the politics of fear that led to that.

But I am a humanist-optimist, there has to be a line at which we revolt. As someone said above "Bush-Cheney make the politics of fear very real" (this is likely more of a paraphrase), but I believe (hope) that their political capita,l built from the momentum of Sept 11, has been spent and an attack on another (third) sovereign nation would lead to a bloody revolution. I know I would revolt, and bloodily if I have to. These kinds of imperialistic invasions were not why I joined and served in the Army. (Release date of Sept. 01, 2001.)

Complacency of the pre-Sept 11 american has returned. I see it on my campus daily where protests are held against smoking and date-rape (who the hell was actually for date rape in the first place?), and economic concerns have usurped the war for front page news.

But I believe that Bush's closeness to the Saudi regime has led them (Saudi govt) to embrace what they might see as a very effective political tool: fear. Who knows, they (Saudi) might be gearing up to invade someone. *shudder*

    • If we can't hold the leaders who led us to war, we should require some sacrifice on their part before we go to war again. They and their friends should not be able to make money from war! Even just wars should not be a for profit adventure.

I used to say before we went into Iraq, "I'd rather be poor than go to war" and it's still true today. I'm still poor and yet we are at war. Sad!

    • The movie "Atomic Cafe" was the eye opener for me. My sons were already in Jr. High when I first saw the movie. It was like "Oh my God", the government was lying, "duck and cover Johnny was all bull s***". I think that is the point when I started questioning facts. I don't want to be a victim because certain people wanted financial gain from the war, or whatever misguided reasons they had.

I didn't agree from the beginning. They weren't responsible for 9/11. And group punishment is an atrosity (sp?). I don't want to be punished for the judgement of others.

    • nope. but its not the complexities of war that make this scary....its the everyday BS. i didnt say it had to be a dude from iraq that comes here and blows up stuff, it could be a guy in africa, indonesia, in belgium. hell it could be a guy in the UK who's family is being deported because they are muslim. it could be a christian guy in eastern europe that thinks the US is ruining his life because they broke up Kosova...and he is insanely patriotic. it could be a whole lot of reasons. all of which are legitimate in the eyes of the dude that is pissed off. and wronged by the us. We think that its our advisaries that are going to do us in, but its probably that person that we arent even thinking about. then america with its arrogance will lump this dude into the fray because americans are retarded. or they will be like, well we didnt do anything to him....and the cycle continues.

      and WE DESERVE IT!!!!!

    • okinawanmajik, sad as your comments are, they are closer to reality than not.
I had thought back in 2006, we had a chance to make up for our roll in the Iraq war by Democratic representatives holding George W. and the neocons responsible for the faulty intelligence that led us to war. If we held George W. and the rest responsible for their actions, the rest of the world would see, we are a country governed by our Constitution and the rule of law. I watched John Conyers holding hearings in the basement because the Republicans wouldn't let his hearings be held on the upper floors. I thought when the Democrats took power, hearings would be held in the light of day. George W. and the warmongers would be exposed, they weren't! John Conyers moved the goal, he will call for impeachment if George W. bombs Iran? Too little, too late!
The Democrats should feel shame for misleading the Americans people who voted for them. I thought we would have accountability, but it didn't happen.

    • its not so much that they promote fear. its the fact that they fuck up so much shit that make me afraid. Listen, civilized people or not, revenge is real. it is a real thing to be afraid of. The us does so much BS around the world to so many people that it only takes one person to seriously fuck up things in this country. I mean we try to call it islamic fundamentalism because its easy. im a muslim and there arent very many nations around the world that are as religiously zealot-ish as the united states!! i mean seriously. many nations in europe are afraid that because the us ties religion and politics so much even though we arent supposed to, that the fake ass born again christians are looking forward to Jesus coming back. well he comes back when? at the end of the world. whats the difference between that and some jihadist (as the West likes to call them) coming an blowing shit up?

im not afraid of those people, because to be honest, they dont want world domination, they want more power in theri respective nations and they see the us as interfering in their populations affairs.

im more afraid of that dude who saw his family blown apart due to an errant bomb. his mother and kids and wife were killed and no one seems to be held accountable for it. his life and his families lives are considered worthless and not only does no one care, but he looks at the news and sees americans supporting the killing of his family because of our Us Vs. Them attitude. well, this guy has nothing else to live for, his life is over in his eyes...and he is angry. he is angry and no one cares about his life or anyones life in his eyes. he is not an extremist, he was a farmer, a shop owner, he owned a pager shop, or a deli. he played soccer with is son on the weekends (friday and saturday) he and his family used to go to the river and fish until dark to kill time. he visits him parents at the old folks home every week and they cook out after the soccer games. his favorite football player is Ronaldo and he loves AC Milan!! all of that is gone.

he wants those people punished. he wants to make a dent. he wants those people to suffer like he is. so he seeks out the groups that do have weapons and since he has no record no ties with extremists and isnt on any list or anything...he isnt looked at as dangerous. the extremists give him a powerful bomb. and he says dont tell me shit...just give me the bomb. he is ushered into the united states via submarine and comes ashore in jupiter florida. he has his duffle bag and with the money he has, takes a cab to miami. he goes over to the beach near bal harbor and assembles his bomb. he is crying because he is in pain over the loss of his family...he is thinking about nothing but them. and because he is a religious man, he says to himself.." i will see you soon" its more about him dying so he will see his family..but he also in the back of his mind blames all the american people for their support of this bullshit.

he detonates his 3 kiloton bomb. and kills 2 million people.

why, because the us dropped a bomb on his house trying to kill someone that has nothing to do with him or his family.

why does that scare me? because thats what i'd do!

      put it in perspective people.

    • chet_arthur, I hope you are 100% correct. I would rather laugh later at my fear overcoming my since of reason. Unfortunately, George W. and this administration have given me reason to question facts that should be unquestionably false.

What was your opinion prior to going into Iraq? Did you think we would preemptively invade a sovereign country? Did you think it would last this long and cost this much? Did you think we would use depleted uranium and possibly endanger our own soldiers? Did you predict the current situation in Iraq?

I'm sorry, but the facts I heard prior to the war have almost all been proven false. Leads me to question facts regarding Iran. George W. and Dick Cheney are spinning war retoric and all options on the table far too much to believe they will resist using WMD's.

People think they won't because they would be restrained by the lack of forces, but I have heard they plan to use air power, negating the need for ground forces? What if they are wrong again? Can we afford to piss off the rest of the world, by blindly going along with this administration. Discussion is needed!!!!

    • I don't think citizens of any country want war. America has had the luxury of wars being fought on distant shores, far removed from the sounds of war. I think it ads to our arrogance (ignorance) that we have not seen the consequences of our actions. We don’t see the caskets of Americans who die on distant shores. We don’t hear the cries of Iraqi’s who have lost loved ones. We don’t hear the roar of planes flying overhead, on their way to bomb some insurgents (probably their own family members, or neighbors). Anyone in Iraq who fight us are insurgents.

I think Americans should spend a day in honest reflection of the war. Let the voices of decent be heard without spinning facts and spin as equal. Even if the war stopped today, it will take years to rebuild Iraq. Americans should see the collateral damage and ask themselves if they would have welcomed such an attack on American soil? How would it feel to know Russia or China planned to attack America? What would it feel like to hear their bombers flying overhead, dropping bombs on our water treatment plants? What would it be like to go into darkness, because they bombed our power stations, or worse our nuclear power plants? What would it be like for them to come into our homes, go through our drawers? What would it be like for them to come to our cities and take our people to prisons already to go, complements of George W. and Halliburton? Millions of Iraqi’s are refugees. There is no guarantee the same fate couldn’t happen to us. Americans should take a moment and put themselves in the shoes of Iraqi’s who have felt the wrath of war and the Iranians who are living with the fear of preemptive war. Iraqi’s and Iranians don’t make policy. We don’t make policy. WE SHOULD BE SCREAMING FOR DIPLOMACY AND REPRESENTATION IN CONGRESS!

We have never been faced with an administration who snubs their noses at the rest of the World and a Vice President who has the nerve to say “So” to the Will of the American People. The World has never faced an American administration, willing to preemptively attack another country. Who knows how they would react to our bombing another country? There are no guarantees? Diplomacy now is the only answer. Iran doesn’t want war with America, but they don’t want a ‘Decider’ telling them how to run their countries either.

We must internet blog the Persian people, et al... Most of their citizens probably want to live in peace and harmony too, I'll bet. The Iranians that I have met who came to study in this country, really enjoyed America and Americans... Open up the street talk among us, and we the people of the globe might actually care for all humanity and begin an edification movement! Egalitarianism can be modified and universal.

    • stephen ive said that over and over again....i honestly care more about this than the friggin election. i mean this is now, where that is later.

but look at it this way, it was reported friday and was meant to be made public that the Military said that they were unable to fight any war on another front because they were stretched too thin. this was public friday. fallon quits and says he is not going to attack iran. im serious, i hope they do it, because Iran is gona fuck the US military up!!!!! i actually think thats a large part of the reason the British got out of that BS too. and spain. No nation wants a part of this. and the iran BS isnt gona bring the US's allies down with them. except of course Isreal. infact i think its isreal pulling the strings.

a little homework. any movement of isreali troops along their norther borders? there is a joint us isreali base in isreal..been built for the last few years that not too many people know about. but i think isreal is pulling the strings to finally claim the rest of the palestinians lands. and all the main diplomats decided to stay home from the Arab summit?

also i think isreal attacked that base in syria to test their defenses. syria needs more pakistania pilots...they owned the isrealis last time they had a few cracks at em!!

Unfortunately, I haven't found anything to give me the, 'out of sight, out of mind' relief. I often wonder if those of us that have seen the troubles coming will just end up unhappy longer than the ones who have spent their time watching fluff shows? I just can't stop. If i dont like something, i change it myself. i get into alot of trouble usually, but i know that if i cant do it, then it probably cant be done, or it was my delivery...meaning i couldnt do it alone. if i went up to the white house and said president douche bag, please stop fucking with iran...they would toss me in jail, if not shoot at me. if 100 people did it, probably much the same. if california and wyoming did it, they probably would hear us, but not really listen. if cali, wyoming, all states west of the mississippi and south of virginia went to 1600 penn ave...im sure they would listen, hear and order helicopter one to pick them up. but then all they would do it go to another location and do the dumb shit. then we would need to find a news source that wouldnt cover the "gathering" as as crowds of angry protesters demand...blah blah blah. but get someone from say BBC or NHK or an international news source to cover it as it actually is, then maybe things would change.

make sure though you control the crowd..and make sure you keep the idiots that wanna throw shit at the cops waaaaay in the back...and if they get out of line...."handle" them. then simply dont move until they make the necessary changes. remember the movie convoy? when they took that brotha into the jail in, i think Amarillo, they took the trucks and went in and got him out. people need to realize that to want to go and take the douche bags by force is not uncivilized or unpatriotic... its quite the opposite..its more patriotic because you really truly love your country and its existence to do that. will people die? maybe. but people will surely die if nothing happens. so whats the greater good?

but the problem lies with who governs afterwards?

all of them are douchebags and to elect someone that is in government now would do absolutely no good. much of the same. maybe someone like Colin powell. us military on alert for like 2 years. all us troops back to us soil. us governors serve as senators and representatives for each state until newly elected reps are found. and embassedors are sent all over the world to establish relations with everyone. including iran and syria and n korea and especially russia.

    • I wanted Al Gore and other Statesmen like Chuck Hagel, Chris Dodd, John Edwards and others to speak up, stand up and address issues important to America and our way of life. I guess I was looking for a ‘Knight in Shining Armor’. Someone to take on mainstream media and their spin with facts. 'Assault on Reason' was good, but it was not really covered by mainstream media. They pick and choose who they cover. When all else fails, they titillate with Britney and Paris Hilton.

All the people who stayed silent during the war may find their finances much different, and their voices much more diminished. By the time many Americans realize they need a voice, George W. will have silenced their voices. Free speech could be a thing of the past. Martial Law for everyone. We need someone to stand up and say, ‘NOT ON MY WATCH’! It’s not over, but it’s not looking good.

If America goes to war with Iran and other country who stands with Iran, it won’t matter who wins the next election. Russia and China have done joint war games with Iran. I’m afraid things will never be the same. I don’t want to be a refugee! I don’t want to be a casualty of war! I don’t want to be governed by a ‘Decider’. I’m looking for a leader. Unfortunately, I don’t think we have till November to get one. People don’t have to be President to lead. They just need courage and a platform for the message. Start posting on Current.com and sites like HuffingtonPost.com. Oh well, you don’t have to pinch me, I know I was dreaming.

    • well, then it would be just like Bagdad. they have that crowd heat ray thing that im sure they would use. but if that happened, that would be the end of it and someone surely would pop a cap in him! i mean there are enough asshole cops that would fall in line...because they are cops, but depending on how many people there are and the non-hippy like atmosphere i think it would be pretty productive.

americans dont have balls like the East/West Germans did in 89. americans dont have balls like the polish did back in the 80's americans dont have heart like the russians did in 90/91 Americans are just stupid and sit back and let shit happen to them.

hell americans dont have balls like Black people did in the 60/70/80/s in the Us/and S Africa. or like the indians in Ghandi's days.

Grow some balls america...and speak up.

    • Your right to be afraid it will be up to Americans to take to the streets to change it. But, George W. has prepared for such an occurrence. He hasn’t enacted the Martial Law Program by chance. There are laws in place to stop open discussion on the Internet.

Have you ever thought about what Martial Law would actually be? They have new weapons for crowd control. They are definitely prepared for crowd control. America even has an agreement with Canada to assist each other in the event of civil unrest. To Canadian soldiers, our protest will mean nothing, it’s not their Constitution being trampled, it’s ours.

    • jan, usually you say some dumb shit, but this time i agree with you 1000000%

      good job.

but you must add that it is just as much all the people's fault as to why they are still doing it. if americans weren't so worried about what other people thought about them and the impression of not supporting your president means you are not patriotic, then people would get off their asses and do something. When does critiqing turn into non support. america supports these dumb asses..point blank. and by saying nothing, they are just as guilty. its not their country, its american peoples country. and if people say well we speak with our votes, then they are lazy bastards.....no you speak with your MOUTH! you act with your vote.....but when the vote is too far away, you speak and act with your Fist!

    • conniepae: All that our Founders went though to give us this nation flawed as they were has now been totally null and voided by the inaction of this Congress. I am really afraid it will be up to us to take to the streets to change it. And honestly, I have to say I am a bit disappointed in Al Gore for not calling for their impeachment either. In his book, The Assault On Reason, he brought out the most compelling case for impeaching them yet stopped short of actually calling for it. And while I don't know what he thinks about it in his private thoughts, I simply cannot believe he does not believe that impeachment is necessary under the circumstances especially after writing that book. No "party" or "election" is above this country and the law, but now the media has also done a job on those who call for impeachment by classifying us as a "fringe group." It is truly sad and frightening to see where we are headed, which is why no one person is going to change it now.

That is actually why I am not too involved in this election beyond the occassional crititque of the candidates. Basically when you come down to it they are all a part of the status quo for not calling for impeachment themselves. Let us just hope these insane warmongers don't attack Iran to get their "armageddon" because then I fear all hell will break loose, and Bush's "Directive 51" would then be put into place. It would be just like them to lull this country into a false sense of security and then drop the bomb literally. I just don't know beyond revolution what could then be done to stop it, and that is something I would not really want to see. Both Democrats and Republicans in Congress should be ashamed of themselves for what they have done to this country and its people.

    • I just had a thought about how United States citizens, and our country overall, react to war. When was the last time we as a country had a smart reaction to a war? Hell, even in WW2, we didn't get militarily involved until after Japan attacked us. We sat on our asses and pretended that we, as part of the world, were not at war. It took a cataclysmic event to shake us out of our own little dream world, and when I say cataclysmic I mean much more destructive than the events of 9/11. Maybe we need another cataclysmic event on par with the attack on Pearl Harbor before we get our heads outta our asses.

    • listen connie....america might not wanna walk away from a fight because of the impression that it is losing or will have lost, but america is a coward nation dispite what they say, because not only are the leaders to pussy to stand up to that dipshit, but the people are just as much pussies for not stepping up and protesting en masse about the conduct of these idiots.

the reason? because underneath it all, america supports this loss of a war. I hope it continues kinda. the only bad thing is iraqi civis are gona keep dying. I could care less about the us soldiers, they can walk off the line if they had balls, but iraqi people will die.
If americans cannot stand up to this idiot of a president and tell him NO dont even think about attacking iran, then america deserves everything it gets. including total destruction...just like Rev Wright said....america has done so much BS around the world that now the world is not gona come to the us's defense this time...and the arrogance of america will lead to its destruction. you dont wanna stand up to how YOUR politicians act and work, then fall right along side them.

    • JanforGore, you are absolutely correct. Individuals like Nancy Pelosi and others who took impeachment off the table, made more war a reality! Nancy Pelosi could have held them accountable. It was their Constitutional responsibility to uphold the Constitution. Their oath of office did not say they only had to uphold the Constitution when they wanted to! It was their jobs to do it! Future elections should not have entered the conversation!

Had George W. and Dick Cheney been required to answer for their mistakes leading to war with Iraq, they might have paused before doing it again. Unfortunately, they have not been held accountable. Instead of legally defending their prior actions, they have time to plan their future wars.

    • okinawanmajik, oh my! Some scary comments. I in no way hope America attacks Iran! I want people with voices, to use them to deter such actions. I am afraid! I am afraid Americans will hear all the war talk and support further escalation instead of diplomacy. We don’t see the war in Iraq. We are led to believe if we fight them there, we won’t have to fight them here? DO I GET A GUARANTEE?

DIPLOMACY OVER MORE WAR IS THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE ESCALLATION! MORE WAR TALK, LEADS TO MORE WAR! WILL WE REACH A POINT WHERE MORE WAR IS THE ONLY ANSWER? I PRAY IT’S NOT TODAY!

    • Again we will regret the day we didn't impeach these bastards. And that responsibility rests firmly on Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and all those Democrats and Republicans who stated it was "off the table."

    • i hope the us attacks iran too, because iran will MOP the us up! i mean it wouldnt even be fair. and after the attack.....russia goes on alert to stall the us forces in europe....and N korea attacks s korea and japan forces in okinawa. (thats the only thing im going to be upset about!) but no middle eastern nation will help the us, and maybe even Venezuala attacks us ships in the caribbean and atlantic. then isreal will attack syria and lebanon for opportunistic reasons (imagine that?) but when its all said and done....3 month war. about 45 million dead.

the us calls for peace....loses everything and the world falls into depression that takes 10+ years to get out
with us being the least wealthy because of the inflation that will envelope our money. and our money being printed outta thin air.

americans would be wise to get this douchebag to stand down.

    • I've been expecting an attack on Iran before the election. I will be amazed if it doesn't happen. They need it to happen soon so they can get Iran's oil secured for big oil before the Democrats take over if we even have an election. Seems to me they have it all set up for martial law to be imposed and them to remain in power. May Cheney's batteries short out.

    • Sad thing is "I don’t think they care!" They are considered collateral damage? How much collateral damage is acceptable? News flash, these casualties were mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand parents, friends and neighbors. Even there pets have occasionally been killed.

The same thing can be said for the Americans who have died in Iraq. They were mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand parents, friends and neighbors! Many Americans will live with the loss of their loved ones for the rest of their lives. We owe them our voices to ensure war as a last resort. America should not be led to war by spin and half-truths. We have other branches of government that should be asking the tough questions, prior to war.

    • If we're approaching one million deaths in Iraq, with a conventional war, not counting depleted uranium, how many would we rack up in a nuclear attack on Iran?

Can you imagine Bush and Cheney with their fingers on the button(s)? What a nightmare.

      Impeach. Impeach. Impeach.

Maybe Cheney thinks he has the solution to global warming, NUCLEAR WINTER!?!?!?

    • phillyharper, I went to the link you posted. Scary stuff isn't it. Unfortunately, believable! With no accountability for wrongs of the past, there is no deterrent for the future.

Before we went into Iraq, I remember a (loud heated) conversation with my brother-in-law, when I asked him "What will happen if these guys are wrong?", are we going to just say, "ooops, I'm sorry to the Iraqi's that are hurt by a misguided war"? I have since seen what we will do, 'we will change the goals'. No apology! No accountability! No Shame!

    • phillyharper, thank you for looking into it further. I too would appreciate any additional information.

When Admiral Fallon's resignation was announced, it sent chills down my spine. I had heard of his statements that an attack on Iran would not happen on his watch and was comforted that someone at the top was watching our backs. Unfortunately, I am not aware of who is watching our backs today?

After being misled into Iraq, the threat of war with Iran is far too important to be ignored. My hope is people who are aware of George W.'s plans will speak up in time for dialog instead of bombs.

    • I've looked over for the actual source of the statement that the Saudis are preparing for nuclear fall out...

One reported translation is this, "[there are] national plans to deal with any sudden nuclear and radioactive hazards that may affect the kingdom following experts' warnings of possible attacks on Iran's Bushehr nuclear reactors,"

As of yet I haven't found the original source. Can anyone find it?
