Sen. Obama should use this for fund raising at the very least and if this doesn't convince you to support not only the man but what he so obviously stands for in the face of such arcane ideals nothing else will. In essence one is either part of the new solution or part of the age old problem.

I saw that comment as racist and nothing less but I am disappointed that not one comment has arisen about the first sentence of the reporter..."at a pro-war rally"....
A pro-war rally?wtf? So there's people out there that are "pro-war"...no matter where the war is? Because war is the only answer ever? look at how small their "rally" is....and yes they are only missing white hoods.

So you think Falwell saying God punished New Orleans with Katrina and that stupid, senile Pat Robertson calling for the assassination of Hugo Chavez and BOTH of them still being embraced by Dubya was LESS contoversial?
ROTFLMAO!
That doesn't even count the fact that Rev. Ted Haggard was on Bush's list of preacher advisors. I'll bet he kept Shrub up to date on where to get a male prostitute in Denver and where to buy drugs there too.
For your pea-sized brain: Jeremiah Wrigth was scheduled to receive two awards. One from TCU's Brite Divinty School and another from Tulane when redneck death threats forced cancellation of his trip to receive them.
You are an idiot. No wonder Neo Cons are finally getting what is coming to them.

I can't believe you just wrote this:

Did you not hear what Dubya's two preacher backers said?
The late Jerry Falwell said Katrina was God paying back New Orleans for its debauchery and the stupidly senile Pat Robertson advocated killing Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela.
You've got gall, bringing up Jeremiah Wright, who was to receive a awards from both TCU and Tulane and had to cancel the trip because of death threats stemming from his sermons. Wright's comments were much less inflammatory than those comments from Falwell and Robertson who were still WELCOME guests at the Bush White House.
Oh, I forgot. It is still called the WHITE House.

I'm not sure it was meant as a racist remark. Sounded more like a 'cult followers' remark. I certainly wouldn't mind being compared to Tiger Woods. The guy has worked hard to get where he is and now he's rich, famous, good looking and a hero to a lot of kids out there. Not a bad place to be. In comparason, McCain looks pretty old and grumpy. The guy certainly wasn't a very good public speaker.

I want to say that it's slightly possible that he didn't mean it "racistly." He could have been referring to any sports hero a kid may look up to. If he were to say you guys could have Farakhan or Sharpton, than that would have been another story.

I'm not American so perhaps I'm missing the "dog whistle" race subtleties but my take is that, if you look at how lousy a speaker the guy is - it's a really clumsy effort to parallel Obama as a glamourous guy = sports star, whereas McCain is meant to be "substantial" (=not at all sexy).
But it's pretty lame, like one of those guys looking at a sports car and going "yeah but what about the mileage...no sir I'll take my Buick".
That's what it looks like to a foreigner. Hardly the seeds of the next holocaust.

Hasn't this country learned anything from its past history? That race is still an issue, I find abominable.
I love my country, but cannot stand its current adminstration or the on-going political rhetoric that is based in self-serving interests.
The only candidate who possesses a pragmatic, compassionate, and wise, approach to what ails this nation and the world is Barack Obama.
Is he a perfect human being...no...but his desire to heal this countriy's wounds and re-establish our integrity amongst nations is based on his heartfelt desire to do so...while respecting and considering diverse points of view.
Until we begin to really listen to one another, throughout the world, we can not move forward.
As for race...I was asked, one time, on a form I needed to submit, and I wrote in, "the human race". A house divided, it is written, cannot stand. Who we are, as a nation, will only be supported by a foundation based in equality and respect for all people.

Second, get off the road that has been built since this country was founded.-We are no different from each, a little color here and there through diversity is the only thing that has ever made people creatively think, something this man has never done.

what the fool was alluding to was the fact that both Woods and Obama are mixed raced persons of color - which is even more racist than just alluding to their being "black" , as it also implies that mixed race persons are even lower than "full blooded " black people - or that having white blood mixed with black is an unholy abomination to the purity of "whites" - it's your standard neo-nazi racial philosophy - regardless , both the announcer and McCain should be issuing a formal apology if they haven't already - and i hope this clip gets broadcasted widely , if it hasn't yet .

It was a dumb statement , not very good at public speaking , but just like hillary and obama and the people that work the campaign trail they all have made stupid statements. Take them down , flog them , cane them in the town square.Oh wait maybe we should focus on the real issues that are of real concern to this country and not morons that are trying to get ahead by kissing ass. Maybe if we as Americans actually had more than a 60 second attention span and ask the media to ask the right questions at the debates and tell the candidates not to grandstand and not whine about how everyone is picking on me, we might get some real answers. Maybe we could ask these so called news stations to give us information on all the candidates, like what happened to the libertarian party? The media controls the election without even giving the proper coverage to blind eyed gossip hounds that seem to be the majority of the voters in ill informed society. Hmmm, maybe I'm a little critical.

This is horrible, but I think he may not have meant for it to be a racist comment, but just an analogy that gave off a visual effect as well.
I wouldn't think that Sen. McCain would want any type of racism supported in any of his talks, but I guess you never know.
Or maybe even this guy was hired and paid by the democrats to plant this "bomb" on McCain to give them a fighting chance in the presidential race.
Or maybe this guy is a frustrated racist without a big enough ego for people to listen to him, so he slipped that little comment in to get his point across before McCain came on.
Either way, I'm really surprised at this whole story.
Quite shocking that there's still people out there that don't realize this world is for everyone, not just anglo-saxon white supremacists. - 4 years ago

what's funny is that in the world of golf Woods is often criticized as being too good - so good that he takes excitement out of the game , and is thus almost boring to watch - to equate Obama with Woods is pretty much like saying " McCain offers the promise of being exciting because he'll be incompetent , and fuck things up a lot , thus keeping things interesting by his bad handicap " - and if McCain's closest rival was a black woman , this moron would have said "you can keep your venus / serena williams " .

My state's polititans aren't much better. Our secratary of state (R) Tod Rokita used slavery analogies at an all white political rally where he said quote "The relationship between Democrats and Blacks in America is a master slave relationship. Black's are the slaves of the democratic party."
There was a funny moment that followed this one, another McCain supporter stepped to the mike and said, I will drop my support of John McCain and support who ever you want Tiger, if you just play one round of golf with me. I'd drop McCain in a second. I apologize senator but I would." I think those comments underscore the fact that the candidate was aware of the offensive nature of the comments, as the supporter was clearly trying to ease the tensions in the crowd. This is not the first racialy insensitive remaks associated with McCain as he stood by his state's governor when he called blacks in Arizona "pickaninies." McCain has also voted against three civil rights bills, and against the legislation making Dr. Martin Luther King Day a holiday. I see a double standard emerging in this race. Obama was lambasted for Reverend Rights remarks as was Hillary for racialy insensitive remarks made by Geraldine Feraro. McCain simply has not been held to the same standard in this regard.

Here's a link to an article about McCain's votes regarding the MLK holiday.
http://www.motherjones.com/mojoblog/archives/2008/04/7863_mccains_tricky.html
And here's the Cliff's Notes (do they still make Cliff's Notes?) version.
"In 1983, McCain was one of 77 Republican Congressmen to vote against establishing a federal holiday in MLK's honor."
"The 1983 vote, however, is the not the end of the issue. In 1987, Arizona's Republican Governor repealed the state's recognition of King; McCain supported the decision. He changed his mind in 1990, when a King holiday was put to a vote in the state.
But even by 1990, McCain hadn't come to appreciate what King stood for. The Civil Rights Act of 1990 sought to overturn "Supreme Court rulings that made it much more difficult for individual employees to prove discrimination." The legislation was fought by big business, because it imposed new penalties on employers convicted of job discrimination. McCain voted against the act four times."
He also has an interesting history with the confederate flag...but we can save that for another day.
*To be fair to the Senator, in 1999 he admitted that he was wrong to vote the way he did.

Blazeboy,
The video comes from a MSNBC news story broadcast to the general public in prime time last night. I'm feeling pretty good about it's authenticity.
What doesn't make any sense is why he would compare Sen. McCain to Tiger Woods at all, unless you take the obvious racial context into consideration.
You of course have the right to support the candidate of your choice but please make sure you know that candidate well and don't get caught up in the hype, spin and or delusions. Above all else don't ignore the obvious to justify your position and don't make excuses for prejudice.

I agree Krag, this should definitely not be given a pass, but they're going to turn their statement on the public for "insinuating" that what they said was racially motivated.
The problem does remain that McCain gladly welcomed Bolovia with a hug and a smile. One thing though, at lease these people aren't even trying to hide their bigoted attitudes

Staff Sgt. Bolovia (sp) wasn't commenting on Obama's golf game (who knows, maybe he golfs like he bowls). What he was doing was an attempt to diminish the Senator by defining him by only his race. Note the word attempt.
Was it stupid? I'd say yes. And not only because it is a racist thing to do. But because it's a terrible analogy. Being compared to Tiger Woods is actually a compliment. Should we give him a pass because his attempt was not only shameful but also ineffective. To that I'd say no.
The bigger question is about McCain. How do we feel about his rewarding Bolovia with a hug (a big George Bush style hug)?

This clip is pretty suspect out of context like this. Isn't it likely that his meaning is, "among the adults children admire, Tiger Woods being an oft-cited favorite, my children admire John McCain?" I mean, I don't think we can tell from the way his speech is edited together and presented at all. Don't be so quick to judge, for fuck sake.
Otherwise, this guy is saying that (a) he doesn't much care for Tiger Woods and (b) that Obama reminds him of Tiger, and he means this to suggest somehow that Obama is bad. Does that make any sense? I know it's POSSIBLE, it just seems a bit of a stretch.
Does anyone have the full video?

What possible reason, other than some sarcastic demeaning remark based on ethnic background, would he choose compare John McCain to Tiger Woods? The man said that a U. S. senator and war hero is a better role model for his ( and presumably our) kids than a professional golfer. Why do you think that just because he compared a person of color unfavorably with a white person, the underlying motive has to be racial prejudice?
I'm a strong Obama supporter for a lot of reasons, one of them being his desire and ability to see the best in everyone and bring people together. I don't think he wants his supporters bringing up race at every opportunity.
