===========picking up after "our kids and their kids, etc. …===================
The Republicrats insist that the first job of this government is to provide "safety" for us all.
However, this has nothing to do with the Constitution. Defense actually comes FOURTH on the priorities list. In fact, when Republicrats insist that "safety" is "job one," they are lying. And they know it. And they MUST be called on each and every lie they tell, each and every time they tell it.
The opponents of the Republicrats must point out that before the Constitution ever gets around to focus on "the common defense," it takes on these three really, really BIG items:
1) a more perfect union,
2) justice for all. As in, no discriminatory punishments for the same crimes, the repeal of all laws that seek to regulate individual conduct--there is nothing in the Congressional ratification debates or in the Constitutional Convention that even remotely suggests that American citizens delegated control over their bodies to the federal government--the notion is preposterous on its face),
3) domestic tranquility. This would include such things as universal health care, a fair monetary policy, cancellation of welfare for the rich and powerful, reduction and elimination of the national debt, development of energy solutions that would keep us out of invading other nations, putting a stop to the private control of our money supply--right now, every time we put money into circulation, it's a loan on which the nation must pay interest to the private bankers. How stupid is that?
4) then comes defense. The Preamble does NOT say "provide for the common invasions and occupations of sovereign nations around the world."
It does nothing of the kind, even remotely. Nope. The Constitution, in this its very first sentence, the Preamble, speaks of "defense," as in "if we're attacked, we'll defend ourselves." Invasions and occupations have NOTHING to do with the US Constitution! Bang. Full Stop.
So the Demicans must, if they're not to cede the field to the likes of Karl Rove (does anybody think he's really "out of the loop" on this election season?) and let John McCain, who sat out the Vietnam war in "stress positions" and on water-boards in Hanoi's tiger cages, win the election by default and whatever election frauds the Republicrats perpetrate in THIS election cycle.
And of course, even before we go another week, the Demicans must initiate impeachment hearings against the members of the Cheney/Bush administration that have not yet resigned to escape accountability for their high crimes, low crimes and misdemeanors. That's why the Framers put the impeachment tools right into the body of the Constitution itself. They KNEW that, eventually, the weak, greedy, immoral, fallible, self-regarding, power-hungry men (it was just men then, while the women provided domestic support — and aided the intrigue and double-dealing and self-dealing practiced by the men) would attempt to throw over the Constitution and usurp the people's power. As surely as night follows the day, the meaner spirits of mankind would from time to time emerge triumphant and necessitate the removal from office of these subversives, these "enemies of the Constitution, both foreign and Cheney." And Bush, et al.

1a) Second framing item: It's only the OCCUPATION that's going really, really badly.
=====================
2. Third frame: This nation runs on creativity, entrepreneurship, inventiveness, reliance on ourselves and other citizens, not on fear and domination. This is not a brutal, bullying America that tortures people, that flouts the rule of law, that displaces, starves and kills millions and millions of "innocent lives," destroys all of their modern infrastructure like pure water, treated sewage, electricity and communications networks and steals natural resources from peoples who cannot defend themselves against our military might. That is the rogue, pariah Cheney/Bush administration. This is not America. This is the Republican Party that has been captured by selfish, greedy, disgusting cowards — men and women who believe that they are entitled to send American men and women to their death because they want their rich friends in America and around the world, in Israel and despots elsewhere around the globe to prosper. Because these true subversives, these true traitors believe they are entitled to sabotage the Constitution and government that belongs to ALL Americans and use it for their private enrichment.2. It is with heavy heart that Democrats must take "judicial notice" of the incredible congruities between the major principles of fascism and the day-to-day activities and statements of the Republicrats. There is a profound disrespect for the rule of law. Major reservations of citizens' rights have been steamrollered over, in the name of "safety."
Republicrats do not even bother to pay lip service to the Constitution, the Preamble to which sets out the intended goals of the experiment:
a. To form a more perfect union
b. To establish Justice
c. To insure domestic tranquility
d. To provide for the common defense
e. To promote the general welfare, and
f. To secure the blessings of liberty to us and our kids and their kids, etc.

The Dems had better get their little tushies in gear and "frame the debate" against buckets of slime like Willy Kristallnacht. And also get out of their customary circular firing squad posture.
First framing item is this: The US has won the war in Iraq.
The war ran from 19 March to 9 April, 2003, and the "mission" was declared "accomplished" on 1 May, aboard the USS Abe Lincoln in one of the more expensive of Shrub's photo-ops. "The US and its allies have prevailed."
Nothing ambiguous about that. The only reason the Cheney/Bush gang keep backing away from saying "we won," is because they need the 9/11 plus Iraq plus Global War on Terror that it will take forever to win, so be scared, be verrrry scared — the "fear card — to control Congress and the poor, benighted US citizenry. Fear works. And for a a good long while, too. But it does lose its edge eventually.
1a) Second framing item: It's only the OCCUPATION that's going really, really badly.

and how are the tax cuts not a 'redistribution of wealth' idea.--Marxist
and how is redistribution of power into the executive branch not a consolidation of power-- communist
there is nothing wrong with Marx (can we please not forget Engels too). his politics were misappropriated by Lenin.
I am a marxist and I am pleased to be a marxist. It is a real and viable politic that has (as you stated Alex) widely misused in american rhetoric. McCarthyism was the first politic of fear, Bush/Cheney is the new politic of fear. And mini-W (John McCain) will, apparently, condone any tactic in order to secure the presidency.
Fascists.
