"I know I have an English test today but skipping class to see Barack Obama is just way more important!!" Dude if I was in high school I would skip to if Barack Obama was right across the street from my school at a diner. BARACK the Vote.

Joey Daniel and Colin Salter, two high school students in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, showed tremendous audacity yesterday when they skipped their gym class to attend an Obama event across the street from their school. But, upon their return, they did not KNOW HOPE because their principal suspended them for a day. The pair did manage to wrangle a pair of excuses, signed by the candidate, but school officials, being strict Constitutional constructionists, saw this as an unlawful federal encroachment upon the rights of local government. Will Senator Obama promise to forswear such unitary executive powers in the future, or does he remain in the pocket of Big Hall Pass? Ha, ha...levity! All right, everyone can go back to yelling at each other now!

    • this sounds like bitter and jealous local educators outraged that these kids thought Barack Obama was more important than that grand failure in American society known as public school run gym class...

    • Seriously, if you actually go to the link and "Watch " the video one of the students looks like a young Republican not a stoner. These students actually should interest in the candidate which is awesome. What I find offensive is that all these post from older voters discredit the youth like we are morons!! Hey we are not, the majority of older voters are the idiots that have pulled us down through the trenches economically, culturally, and so forth by voting off of nonsense in the past like "Swift boat, gay marriage. . . bullshit like that" . Not ummm!!! War, that those young stoners are fighting for your democracy and losing their lives.

    • Look I think I am the only one that is looking at this at what it is, a cute little story. Who gives a shit about these two kids skipping school to go to some Obama rally, they probably can't even vote. And like I said, if they were that energized they could have probably found a way to get permission before resorting to skipping. The point should be that we shouldn't need some person to "energize" us for us to take back control of the government. Shit, you guys speak as though this shit (current situation America is in, in it's global standing both economically and politically) crept up on us and now just being pointed out, so let's do something about it. Jesus H Christ guys, this shit has been going on for decades, not years, and the only thing that is gonna reshape this country is a complete overhaul of the government, and I guarantee, the only candidate that may do that, is Nader. Not any of these other "mainstream media" darlings.

Energize me all you want, if you can't assure me that you'd make some real changes and have strived your whole life to make changes that weren't always popular but turned out right in the end, then you are not my candidate. We've had a great candidate in Nader for so many years, and the only reason people don't like him is because he rubs them the wrong way. He makes them uneasy. His thinking is self serving, etc. Please people if everytime your panties get in a fucking wad you expect the world to stop, we'd be in a lot of fucking trouble. Open your eyes and minds and maybe then you'd realize your heads are in your asses and it feels so much better when you take them (your heads) out. I'm not judging, I was there once, but thankfully my head is now held high... in the air. So come on, join the revolution and let's make some real change, not some bullshit being peddled at the pulpit.

    • Obama could care less about those kids getting their education, hell his target audience is the "stoned out of their minds" youth vote. The kids are following obama like rats following the pied piper.

    • malt: ignorant rambling with useless analogy as usual

keesha: please keep sniffing, it's good for you. and then move on to gasoline, I hear you get to smell colors.

what you all cannot stand is the fact that Obama energizes people, especially the youth. they want to see him regardless of the repercussions. maybe had there been a nearly dead boring republican speaking instead attendance in school would have been better.

    • Sounds like they were getting all kinds of first hand experience on how the political, beaurocratic and educational systems work to me.

The lessons they were shown will probably stay with them a long time.

    • If Obama did take the time and i really do not believe anybody would.

But if he did then he does not care about their education and that shows us he thinks more of himself a his political future then the future of the youth of today.

And to think so many of are young people like these are following this man only because he is the new game in town, not because he has experience just because it means that if they follow him they think they are into the right cultural change at this time.

Sort of like MP3 and XBOX if is new and if it is something others might want to have then get it now!

The problem is they jump in without looking and find the MP3 only has 256 mbs (Obama NO experience) and the week later the MP3 that comes out has 1 GB (Hillary HAS experience). And the XBOX has NO Hard Drive (Obama NO experience). And the XBOX that comes out in a week has an 40GB Hard Drive (Hillary HAS 25 years of experience).

And you are stuck with the first stuff that is really pissing you off that you were so dumb and did not listen because others told you the rules of the game.

But you had to have it your way!

    • What is this "something bigger"? I think people partaking in government should be done on a regular basis, just as we bathe and brush our teeth. That's how vigilant we oughtta be. Either way, I believe them skipping class warrants them being punished, that's how school works. I got punished for skipping school and visiting a college on a date not designated for visiting universities on "school time". Look it doesn't matter why they skipped, they skipped. Is it cool they skipped to go to an Obama rally rather than to go "huff on glue", yeah I guess. What would've been cooler is them getting their government course in on the enthusiasm and organize a class trip to the event. I think this was more about skipping and thinking they could get away with it since they went to an Obama rally, rather than , we want social justice and to be a part of "something bigger", and being shocked at ebing punished for it. Haha. You skipped, you do the time, that's how it works. School is an institution, one of the many places that thrives on rules.

    • keesha, not a big fan of politics, eh. I think what those young men did should be respected. They took time out of their day to be a part of something bigger. How often in your life will you get that opportunity? Their insight into the larger issues is great. Obama is worth getting into a little dissident trouble over...
