Barack Obama on Fox News Sunday: watch video

Chique
Fox News Sunday waited (by their own count) 772 days to interview Sen. Barack Obama -- and surprised no one by spending almost the entire first segment on questions about Rev. Jeremiah Wright, flag pins, and 60s-era radical Bill Ayers. Here's a sampling of the questioning:

    • Isn't right next to the flag button (word)? If you are on AOL it sometimes doesn't show up. Try refresh, or if you have it, Firefox. I sometimes have to go use Firefox DSL because AOL is crap, I'm just used to it and don't like change.

    • Only if you will recommend some of mine. Oh well, just click on recommend and it will turn into unrecommend. Leave it like that and refresh it will happen. Actually you needent refresh but you will see that it worked that way.

    • krag2112 -- am I a bad person because I thought that was hillarious?

I can see her yelling at security. "I left my drink at the table, dammit! Let me go! Git yer hands offa me! Don't you know who I am? Bill! Bill! Do something!"

    • I think she'd do a shot of Canadian whiskey. Go all in with a 5 and 2 off-suited. When Obama beats her on the river with a full house, she'd change the rules claiming it was low-hand and declare herself the winner. Security would have to forcibly eject her from the table. Then she'd threaten to nuke Iran.

      Okay…that was mean-spirited. Sorry.

    • Okay, not to get too far off topic but I think I might be on to something with this Texas Hold'em idea.

Forget the debates, let's do Texas Hold'em!

What is politics if not an incredibly high stakes game of poker?

I'd love to see who'd win that match up.

How do you think Hillary would play? Conservative with her chips or would she be going "all in" on every hand?

    • Obama the "Elitist" did cut a promotional video for the WWE a week or so ago. Isn't that enough to prove his common man chops?

What more does he have to do?

American Gladiator? Does he have to personally best Wolf and Titan in single combat before he is deemed worthy enough for us to consider his policy positions on steel tarrifs or the rate of the capital gains tax?

And why haven't I seen Obama's HALO 3 high score yet?

Can we seriously entrust the security of this nation to a man whom has not publically released his Xbox360 gamer tag and HALO scores?

      What's he hiding?

And if we were to find out that Obama (gasp!) doesn't really play video games would we dismiss him as an out of touch elitist then?

I just love how some in this country have created that wholly artifical demarcation line. Some of us really seem to "care" if Obama drinks whiskey and hunts deer, but are indifferent if he plays video games and drinks Red Bull.

Which is odd because these days I think there are a heullva lot more voters playing HALO than are going duck hunting.

Is it really realistic to expect that any Presidential candidate must be personally able to relate to EVERY niche group out there?

Texas Hold'em is really popular these days. Should we expect Hillary and Obama to face off over a game of no limit Texas Hold'em?

Okay, I really do wanna see that one!

    • I think Obama conducted himself very well on FOX. I didn't see it as pandering. He responded to the questions to my liking. I honestly expect great things of him when he is elected President. Foreign policy is going to be a corner stone of his administration. That is sorely needed. He has good ideas about strengthening the economy and we might actually avoid the depression that the war and irresponsible trade agreements have us headed for. He hasn't thrown back a beer with a shot, but he was in a pickup basketball game and did himself proud.

    • Fox News Interview, Obama on General Petraeus:

"...what I will do is say we have a new mission. It is my strategic assessment that we have to provide a timetable to the Iraqi government. I want you to tell me how best to execute this new assignment and I am happy to listen to the tactical considerations and any ideas you have.

But what I will not do is continue to let the Iraqi government off the hook and allow them to put our foreign policy on ice while they dither about making decisions about how they are going to cooperate with each other."

I guess one person's thoughtful, deliberate policy making is another person's pandering. I don't know about you, but I've had just about enough rash, harebrained, impulsive foreign policy. Whether that's George "Mission Accomplished" Bush, John "100 Years" McCain or Hillary "Obliterate Iran" Clinton. It's time for something new.

And "everybody sucks" is an easy position to take. It requires nothing but cynicism. But it also gets nothing done.

    • Obama panders?

How exactly are we defining pandering and in what way is he pandering?

Now tell us exactly how Hillary is "different"? Is she really a rootin-tooting, chew tobacky spitting straight talker unlike that elitist phony Obama?

I mean really, we all know Hillary doesn't hunt and doesn't throw back shots of whiskey or shop at Wal-mart or get harrassed by collection agencies because she hasn't paid back her Payday Loan and yet she is definitely trying to create that impression amongst the voters. To me that's the classic example of pandering.

    • The difference between this and what happened to Mr Gore is Michigan and Florida knew what there were doing this time and did it of there own volition. They knew the rules and ALL the candidates agreed at the time if they broke the rules their votes would not count - ALL the candidates. They aren't disenfranchised this time, they did it to themselves in this case. You can't run a stop sign and tell the officer you didn't know it was there. Ignorance is not an excuse to break the rules.

A better question is why all of a sudden is one of the candidates trying to change the rules at the last minute? Why go back on the agreement made in the beginning now?

    • Yes, he panders well. I am at the point where I believe he could now come out and say The Patriot Act was a good thing and those who decried it before would agree with him.

    • DEBATES/REVOTES?WHAT IS OBAMKETURE AFRAID OF? THERE IS NOTHING FAIR BUT A RE-VOTE IN BOTH MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA
WE THE PEOPLE WILL NOT BE DISENFRANCHISED AGAIN... WE WANT TO SEE HOW THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES VOTES ON THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES... CLINTON AND OBAMA... LET MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA HAVE THEIR VOICE... IF YOU DO NOT MR. OBAMA, I AM QUITE SURE THAT I WILL NOT SEE MUCH CHANGE WITH YOU IN OFFICE... CROCKED POLITICS AS USUAL, IT SEEMS TO ME... I WANT TO SEE THIS NOMINATION TURNED OVER TO THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE... LET THE PEOPLE GO ON AND VOTE! THIS LOOKS LIKE ELECTION PROBLEMS AGAIN, LIKE THE FIX WAS IN FOR AL GORE.

    • Obama knows what he's doing in not being intimidated or bullied by FOX. He handled himself as a truely compassionate and intelligent candidate with a fresh approach to a possible presidency.
I'm still hoping that he accepts Hillary's one on one debate challenge to further illustrate his leadership potential.

    • For some reason, I was expecting Barack to be placed in front of a firing squad of FOX anchors. This is actually pleasant. Obama presents himself well and I'm glad that people who only watch that channel for their news will get to see my candidate.

I am a fan of Michael Moore and encouraged by his support of Obama!!!
That helped me feel pretty comfortable with him since he tells it like it is usually.

    • This is Obama at his best. If he stays on track like this...then we're on track to having a democratic presidency this time around. Screw what Hillary says, get back on the issues and stick to 'em.

    • Why should he debate her? He can afford to pay for advertising and won't have to answer questions from her that have no merit while she tries to link him to every criminal known to man. Yes, he was on FOX and handled it very well too. He was in control and I'm sure picked up more votes. Hillary can go there too, there is nothing stopping her. Looks to me like it wouldn't hurt if she acted like a typical politician, if that is what is working so well for Obama.

Great description! Certainly fits the portion of the interview that I watched.

    • Much of what I like about Obama is the group of people he will bring to the table with him. I think he will choose people who will work for the betterment of America and will work to unite us. We need government that works for ‘the many’ instead of ‘the few’.

'Of the people, by the people and for the people', works for me!

    • While Chris Wallace's questions were predictably awful, Obama's answers were predictably brilliant.

I watched the interview and felt reaffirmed that we have nothing to fear from Fox News. Yes, they're assholes and yes...well...again they're assholes, but Pres. Obama can handle himself just fine. No need to hide under our beds.

It was kind of funny because Chris Wallace (is he actually a "real" journalist?) seemed more like a kid from the local school paper interviewing a rock star than a highly paid news anchor standing toe-to-toe with a Presidential candidate. I guess it's the Obama Effect -- when stupid people stand next to Obama they just seem even stupider than they normally are.

I was pretty satisfied with the interview and I think he did himself quite a favor by making himself known to an audience that maybe doesn't watch ABC or CBS.

I wonder if that elitist Hillary will every take up the challenge and go on the network favored by the regular working class (I don't think it's latte drinking Harvard grads watching Fox. It's the 3rd shift crowd).

I was very happy with how Pres. Obama handled himself.

The guy just seems so at ease and in control!

    • I can't bring myself to watch that channel. But I read the transcript. Seems like he stayed cool and his answers came off as informed and presidential to me. I don't think it lived up to it's hype as some kind of grudge match, but that's probably good for Obama at this point.
