California's medical marijuana patients are one step closer to being protected against work place discrimination after a bill made its way through the state Assembly this week.

Assembly Bill 2279, authored by Assemblyman Mark Leno and co-authored by Eureka's Assemblywoman Patty Berg, would make it unlawful for an employer to discriminate against an employee because of their status as a medical marijuana patient or caregiver or for failing a drug test.

    • Absolutely should have been thought of when 215 was passed. Seems absurd to me that the state could allow a medication yet not allow you to be employed because of failing a test because of your medication???!!!??? especially since coming up positive for t.h.c. does not reflect when you use it, if you use it once its in your system for about 7 days, and a chronic user (pun intended) is likely to take 30+ days to get clean. So you can use your medicine at home and be totally responsible but still not be employed, i personally have had negative experience with this and i am glad they're finally changing it, of course now im moving out of state and don't have to worry about employment in CA....
