I think Gore wants Obama.

DISCLAIMER: my personal views do not necessarily reflect those of the Current staff at large, nor of Al Gore, since I've never met the man. I am no more privy to information than any other regular Joe.

It just makes sense. Bill Clinton squandered the reputation of the Democratic party with the Lewinsky scandal, ruining Gore's chance to take the seat. So why would Gore want Hillary Clinton to take the office that Gore should have had?

Also, Gore is a uniter. Who else is a uniter? oh yea, Obama! Both men have a high level of moral dignity that they would not throw to the pigeons just to win an election. Clinton has done exactly that.

Obama has said he talks with Gore on a regular basis. I think Obama is down with good energy policy and I think Gore recognizes it.

I dont think Gore will endorse. But that does not mean he isn't paying attention, nor that he remains opinionless.

what are your thoughts? maybe it doesnt matter. Maybe Gore really isn't paying attention. I maintain that if he IS, and IF he has a preference, it makes most sense that it would be for Obama.

    • Al's non endorsement of hillary from the start was a silent endorsement to Obama, since day one.

He knows what is surrounding the clintons, he knows what kind of power the kennedys have, he knows what kind of change needs to happen so as to move towards a much more balanced government when it comes to distribution of wealth and proper dissemination of resources towards much needed environmental causes.

that last paragraph applies to Al and Barack

yes, Al's silence is a clear endorsement for whoever is ready to lead the USA in the needed current direction, and Barack now has to apply his many idealistic ideas. Time to time, but it is happening, it is a very exciting moment.

I simply hope that the leaches in power, those holding that grip through greed and submission, ACKNOWLEDGE the fact that they have amortized their investment MANY TIMES OVER. They must allow us to step in and fix the mess they created, and join us.

    • Why is it that people either love Al Gore or hate him? I made the mistake once of posting a question about the proper way to address him and most of the answers I got were not repeatable. Anyway, I think you are right on the nose with this one, stephen. Good logic here.

      lol.

well to be fair, we dont know exactly what Obama will do, assuming he's the next president. we HOPE that he feels the urgency of climate change and our obsolete energy infrastructure as urgently as Gore does. But right now it's a matter of faith. I have faith in Obama. some people simply dont have faith in him. I think those who criticize Obama's lacking and arguably misguided environmental policy now will be pleasantly surprised to find him changing his tune once he's in office. I HAVE FAITH THAT OBAMA AND GORE WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN TOGETHER. Those critics of Obama will be pleasantly surprised, or else I'll be disturbedly disappointed !!!

I expect it may be somewhere in between stephen. I also expect that some "peopleforgore" will find fault no matter what Obama does. But you can't please everyone and sometimes you have to brush the haters off. I do hope Gore is involved in this. He's made a great start on educating people on this issue, I hope he'll work with whoever the next president is to continue making progress. The problem won't be solved overnight, but we have to keep moving the ball forward.

    • no doubt Clinton is a fighter, and in the end she's on the right side of politics. of course I would vote for Hillary if the choice was between her and McCain.

but you know,"obliterate" really did it for me. She knew Pennsylvania could have sealed her fate, so she brought out the big guns. I dont believe this is ever the right thing to do, no matter how much of a corner you think you're in. you dont use words like "obliterate" when talking about another country. I mean, goddamit, we've been through 8 years of this kind of neanderthal machoist stupidity, and look what we've accomplished. We've destroyed an entire country, lost the respect of the rest of the world, and set our own nation on a path of decline.

I was also not down with her playing up, or at least allowing to fester, the whole Wright association.

In the end I want a president who's dignified, a world class leader. Obama has proven he can be, Hillary has proven she isn't.

    • I don't know what's in Gore's heart, but I agree with Stephen's guess. I also agree that both of these guys catch a lot of right-wing flack. I think it's a badge of honor though and you can take a look at who the conservatives try hardest to smear and it gives you a pretty good idea of who they fear the most (and therefore who we should pay the most attention to). Gore certainly gets slimed a lot. So does Edwards and Senator Clinton is close to the top of that list as well. That's something we should remember as Obama supporters try to find common ground with Clinton supporters. She has been a tough opponent and she has done things that many of us have legitimate gripes about. But she has also been on the front line of progressive politics for a long time and has been fighting hard. That is something we should admire and respect her for. I know I do.

    • I agree with you both. It's a shame that those with integrity and more than an ounce of humility get dumped on with so much bs. No, we can't assume what Al Gore is thinking but, despite the fact we know he is disillusioned with what politics has become, there is no doubt he loves this country and is probably following these events closely. I also believe Obama has the integrity to follow Gore's advice and sense of urgency with our planet at stake and work toward a sustainable future.

    • good point. there are so many haters out there, all you have to do is youtube search anything with al gore in it, and a whole swarm of people start dissing the guy. He's a polarizing figure, which is too bad because his message is much the same as Obama's... unity through transcendence.

    • I agree, I think Al is for Obama also, but there are a lot of horrible people that just hate him and try to throw dirt on him, even though he's done so much to help the people of this nation and of the world.

So maybe he's trying to spare Obama any extra grief he would otherwise have to deal with...look at the petty B.S. they've already tried to pin on Obama...pathetic...
