Violence is part of human nature. Conflict between people is inevitable. It is our choice whether to let conflict descend into an endless cycle of violence and war or choose the path of peaceful non-violent resistance.
Read Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Nobel Laureate speech for his cogent explanation why violence is never the answer to conflict and injustice, and how and why peaceful non-violent resistance is the correct path to resolve difference and build the beloved community.

what world do you live in plato. We have been fighting since the creation of man. There will never be peace, its dumb to think there could ever be complete peace. It's just wishful thinking. It can never be accomplished.

The worldwide broadcast of the execution of Saddam Hussein was an obscene display of how barbaric governments and people still are today in the 21st century.
It makes one realize how some have not progressed from the barbaric cruelty of England's King Henry VIII whose subjects gathered in mobs to see his wives and political enemies beheaded in public squares. Not surprising that Showtime's THE TUDORS still draws fascinated gawkers today.

No not that time, but we did truly believe he had WMD, but he had them, also planned to get them back, that was heard in the interview info. plus he killed hundreds of thousands of people, and trained and armed terrorists to create more unrest. Since in the past his record stood, it was not actually surprising to know he was a major threat, and would have continued to do so to the detriment of many.

But they didn't have WMDs did they, Gammy? That argument is illogical. The Iraq war was a bone-headed, mis-informed decision that's cost us money, soldiers and international credibility.
By the way, there are people worse than Saddam in places like the Sudan and Burma, who are complete despots, and what have we done about that?

Torture is wrong. Period.
It shames all Americans that torture was, and is being done in our name with our tax money.
If it were your son or daughter being tortured, what would you think is "uneeded in the way of torture."?
Human beings do not torture.
All spiritual teachings condemn the inhumane treatment of others.

We do not as a nation advocate torture, however, we did in the past use some of those methods. I am honestly not sure what I would do if millions of lives were stake for the one that may actually be a perpetrator to extreme violence. We never know what we would do to protect our whole nation against some extremist! If they felt it was life threatening for millions against the one, perhaps they felt they had to. We have to stop neutering our military when it is charged with protecting all of us.

We are not doing anything unneeded in the way of torture. We declared war on the terrorists who bombed the US, and many other countries. Then it belongs to the military courts. We are not bombing anyone for NO reason. We do need to help increase health care, but if we do not do it in a free enterprise manner, it will be run by the government - improperly, and all of our health care will decline. We do need to protect the environment more. More laws to protect how we do it and how we regulate the insurance companies so no LOOP HOLES or PREEXISTING CONDITIONS LOOP HOLES exist.

So apparently you think the Geneva Convention doesn't apply to the American government.
Last time I checked, the United States is on the same planet where the Convention is applicable. Torture is not acceptable by that Convention, and no matter how angry or vengeful one may be about this war, torturing prisoners of war is wrong and no one can prove differently.

It matters when the U.S. government uses my tax money to kill and torture people, bomb countries not attacking America and destroy the environment, instead of using it to feed, shelter, educate and provide health care and get the 38 million Americans out of poverty.

Horrific.
When will the world see that violence and war lead only to an endless spiral of death and destruction?
As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, the way to change is through peaceful non-violent resistance.
We must see the use of weapons and violence as the true obscenity and challenge our government to stop spending our tax dollars on war. - 3 years ago

That is very touching and very true. I once had La Donna Harris stay in my home when she was running with Barry Commoner the Green Party. In order to have peace, as above said, we will have to have justice for all. No one wants to address the nasty alternatives to fighting for other people's freedoms. Look at Burma - Those military men are killing, lieing, and destroying hundreds of thousands of people. Look as so many Iraq citizens killed by AlQAEDA AND Taliban and other terror groups. Darfur - Someone must protect the innocents who are being abused and killed by bad groups. Vietnam - We needed to stay and finish - tons more men were killed there, and look at what was done to the innocents after we were forced out - Horror - All because the Communists gave arms and help to the North, and we could not risk world war, and the too left media and left people were very concerned for their want for peace, so we got our peace, our soldiers were not honored, and the innocent people of South Vietnam were raped and plundered by the North Bast----s! We all want peace, but we cannot always have it, and to insure it for the masses, our soldiers have to fight for that right for the rest of us and other innocents in the world. How would you stop the horrible militants in Darfur, Burma, and all of the other non-free nations being held captive by military and dictators? It is just not easy!
