Poll: Dems satisfied with Obama as nominee - and Republicans aren't with McCain

"A new number from the latest Hotline/Diageo poll goes a long way toward dispelling the idea that Barack Obama is leading a seriously divided party. On the contrary, the poll suggests that it's John McCain who has a problem in this regard.

The poll, conducted in the wake of Obama's clinching the nomination and including sampling dates from before Hillary Clinton's final concession, found that 68% of Democratic primary voters were satisfied with Obama as the nominee, with 30% preferring someone else.

By contrast, only 52% of Republican primary voters were satisfied with John McCain as their nominee, with 45% preferring someone else. And this is despite the fact that McCain sewed up his nomination months ago, while Democratic emotions were still raw when this poll was conducted."

    • @ all of the anti poll responses:
Yes, polls aren't the best source of information. But this is true, alot of Republicans aren't sure about McCain...they think he's too liberal, which is why he's turning himself into a Bush clone to please them! And the rest don't like Bush. Either way, the party is split. It just brings to light what not everyone has seen yet.

People are rallying around Obama...while with McCain, he's a huge flip flopper and trying to please a party that is becoming more and more divided.

And yea, I'd love a multi-party system too.

@Current: Even if a lot of people don't like that it's a poll, I'm still really happy this got on :)

    • Hussein Obama is the greatest danger we face in the short term. I say the short term because there is a chance that the American people will come to their senses and not elect him. If he is elected he will be the greatest danger freedom will face for his duration of his coronation.
McCain is far from a good candidate. One thing, he is NOT Bush. Those who say he is are just lying. He has had a great many disagreements with Bush. Only in some warped parallel universe is the Bush again. Like the last two elections we have a hold your nose and vote scenario.
Obama is a communist. He believes in the primacy of the state over the individual. By extension he cannot believe in the Bill of Rights. His comments on the Heller case now in SCOTUS deliberation bear that out. Those of you who support him please tell me why. Don't just cite "change" be specific. He is the most liberal member of the Senate but voted some 130 times "present" rather than take a stand on something. Do you like him because he will continue class warfare the socialists seem to like? What has he done to make you think he will be a good president?

wow, i would think the guy that supports constitutional right removal would be the one that is a threat to our freedom.

"He believes in the primacy of the state over the individual." See, I can just make bullshit up too. It would have no base or evidence behind it, but it would help my point.

He has done one very simple thing to be a good president: not been McCain. The guy that supports the war, supports torture, has an environmental score of zero, who's temper worries even republicans, has the most lobbyists working for him that anyone else, supports the Military Commissions Act, admits to knowing nothing about the economy... he is pathetic. Before, he disagreed with bush, but during this campaign its hard to tell the difference.

    • McCain's record clearly indicates he is a man in transition, and over the last ten years, he's gone from being one of the better politicians to being somone completely different. No wonder Republicans aren't sure.

    • The rest of the world is happy with Obama. Who the hell is happy with McCain? Do some people really want to see another four years of Bush? That's what they are asking for.

    • While I agree with the need for a 3rd party, it seems like it's still a long way off since even among progressives and liberals all the attitudes point to the fact that they aren't ready yet.

I have posted this proposal to begin to get a "truly integral" system of politics a couple times and it hasn't gotten any traction because the majority of the people even on this site aren't ready for it.

Until they develope further it's still going to be the choice between a "douche and a turd sandwich" that are going to make it to the top with a chance at getting elected.

Even with Obama's negatives and ties to the corrupt system he has some more positives and at least has the intention to try to repair some of the damage of the last decade.

That's a far sight better than the choice of some that wouldn't even pretend to try.

No they won't there are about 75 different sites now for Hillary Supporters who have turned to McCain because we don't want Obama. He is too closely tied to radicals and why won't he release his birth certificate? Something is wrong there and where there is smoke there is fire!!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
what will McCain do for women? NOTHING! I undertand that its not about issues with you new McCain supporters but what about your civil liberties or the rights to your bodies? Dont think that John McCain doesnt want to over turn Rowe vs Wade. Regardless of your religious beliefs it will simply be a man telling a woman what to do with their bodies.
      What about universal Health care?

      http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/womenissues

I dont expect you to go to that page and find out all of the things hes already done for women and the things he plans on doing with Clintons help but like I said its not about the issues with you its simply about you

Anyway, your comments are not based on logic. 75 websites that are Hillary Clinton supporters for McCain? Wow Barack should just throw in the towel. I mean, that sounds like McCain has the womens vote sewed up.

I can see it the History books now

in 2008, woman went AGAINST their own civil liberties and voted overwhelmingly for John McCain.
Barack Obama lost mostly due to Reverend Wright. Once his youtube videos surfaced people finally could see who Obama really was. Reverend Wright said controversial things like "goddamn America" as a black man which could only mean that he hated white people. And since Barack attended the same church (which was later found out to go by the secret name Kill Whitey for Christ Baptist) obviously he was a racist as well. It was a fact that Barack came out of a white vagina and was then raised by white people but somehow still had a diabolical plan to wipe white people off the face of they earth.

Fortunately, these uneducated voters saw through the speeches that moved thousands of people. They ignored the effects of the republicans running the country for eight years. The only thing John McCain had in common with Hillary was being white. But that was good enough for them. Their voting records were totally opposite outside of the vote for war. Hillary Clinton even came out and endorsed Obama asking her voters to continue the fight and to focus their energy and passion towards electing Obama. Of course Clinton and Obamas policies were virtualy Identical but these women new better.

Two days after the election over five thousand women commited suicide as a result of finding out that John McCain reinstated the draft and declared war on Iran. Less than a week later World War 3 started.

Well you can say what you like, but I am against Obama for many more reasons that just that. My maiden name happens to be Dunham, so I really don't care what you think I do or don't know. I kow what our family knows and that is enough for me!!! I also have done research on Obama for over 8 weeks studying his politicl philosophy intensely, I disagree with a lot of what he says. His healthcare plan leaves 15 million uncovered, Is that fair? NO! He says a lot of things I disagree with including his wanting to overturn limits on affirmative action. I don't care how you vote.l I am not voting for him. Neither is any of my family. You can't say McCain will cause WW3, Obama says he will use diplomacy, but what if no one listens to him? You think he can magically make someone do what he says? GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! I don't approve of anyone saying GD especially not in church, I ama christian and my God doesn't Damn them so why should they take his name in vain? The fact that he is willing to stay in that church, to be associated with people who have ties to radicalism against America, just look whose home he launched his candidacy from. I don't particularly like McCain, but I will take the lesser of two evils. I am not interested in debating with you, and I willno longer respond to you in the future. I did however, want to clear up your idea that I am happy about voting McCain, I just will take the lesser of two evils over pretending that someone has some incredible ability to change things when most of what he says is simply implementing laws already in existence, which didn't work before and won't work now. We need to change, really change the nation, not listen to someone use the words hope and change more than greeting card companies and whose constituents in Illinois say he is corrupt and they won't vote for him. Talk to people who live in his constituency in Illinois and do some research on the man and his actions. Have a nice life, and if he wins I hope he isn't as bad as I believe he is.

    • I can't believe this made it toTV. And here I thought Current had voters who were different in that they didn't fall for this kind of rhetoric. Many I have talked to over the last few months say we need a good third party and that they are sick of the monoploy the two party system has had on our country for so long. And I agree with them, and these polls do nothing but give false impressions and perpetuate that partisan undemocratic rhetoric where no one who doesn't have the cash has a chance to even be mentioned in a poll. Of course, all we will get from now to November are more polls, soundbites, and false promises backed by a media more than happy to plug them instead of truth. Oh well, i suppose tha told saying is true: The more things change the more they stay the same.

    • JanforGore:

one thing that poll doesn't tell you is that the republicans will work ten times as hard to make sure that a republican becomes president. They may be more divided but they know what side to fight for. There will be millions of women in November that will actually vote against their own civil liberties and cast a vote for McCain. Millions will look past Obamas record on womens issues and vote for McCain who has done virtually nothing.

I'm sorry but those opinions are unfounded in reason. You say you hate Marxism, which is an idealogy and not one Obama subscribes to. If you're trying to say he's a socialist, well than damn I hope he has some socialist ideals--you can thank socialism for your police force, your library, your fire department, your roads, and just about anything else that would be ridiculous to have to pay for individually.

I won't even bother for the rest of your comments.

I AGREE WITH YOU, EXCEPT BIG OIL< THEY SUCK!! OH AND I LOVE THE CLINTONS AND GORE!!!
Obama is a fake, he doesn't vote what he preaches and that is what he is doing. Of course, what he really wants is to ethnically cleanse our white selves out of this nation! No one seems to even have really read his books, he is constantly talking about white people. And for the record if someone forcefully asks for me money, black or white, and stays after I give them a dollar of my money, and they make me uncomfortable than THEY WERE WRONG< and I WOULD EXPECT MY FAMILY TO UNDERSTAND MY BEING SHAKEN IF I FELT THREATENED!!! But Obama thinks his grandmother was out of line. If any man approaches me when I am not with my husband it makes me uncomfortable and I tell them to get the f*%k away from me. Why doesn't he relate to his family? Is it because he is racist against whites? POSSIBLY< HAVE YOU SEEN HIS PASTOR??? HE IS SCARY< A RADICAL AND PEOPLE ARE WORSHIPPING HIM, and it is those who don't believe in God who are deifying him. FREAKY!

Obama's message includes NOT supporting impeachment. This means that he condones our leaders actions which have been determined in several cases to be criminal and CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY.

What kind of message is that? What kind of leader is he going to be?

      TIME TO WAKE UP!
