About 1,000 Met police officers will be deployed each day during the twoday visit. A Met spokeswoman said there would be a highly visible uniformed presence as well as a "large amount of covert work".
Scotland Yard would not reveal the cost of the security operation, but it is believed to be over £1million. It rivals the £746,000 police operation around the Olympic Torch relay in April.
The amount of coaches crammed full of armed riot Police in the city centre was staggering yesterday. God knows what it will be like today.

Nice footage johnmcstupid...
Three people - including a 60-year-old woman accused of indecent exposure - have been charged after an anti-war demonstration.
Scotland Yard made 25 arrests after 10 officers suffered minor injuries during a demonstration in Parliament Square as George Bush visited Downing Street on Sunday.
Up to 2,500 demonstrators gathered in the square to mark President Bush's farewell tour of London, with around 1,200 police officers working on each day of his visit.
No protest/commotion/problems my arse.

if bush doesn't get protested against as much as the olympic torch was, something is very wrong indeed.

Man. I just watched the report on MSNBC about his visit. It was all smiles just like the photo above. Not one sign of the demonstration. I do hope that people bring back footage for Current.
Great photo btw. One former Nazi, and another a grandson of a Nazi sympathizer and profiteer.

OMG too early for this image.
Look at his smile.
Gross.
That said it is great the protesters are there.
My regret in Kennebunkport was letting the organizers dictate where we could go..they told us to walk around where no one would see us quite a bit and I wonder where their loyalties were to the cause...a few brave souls ventured forth to the gate. Mostly people like Carlos who lost his son and others who were directly affected They were told to leave...I was with them but scared of disobeying..a village cop joked that we we should "Move right along..nothing to see there.." from Star Wars..i wondered if he was being more than funny..that we were a bunch of sheep for following these orders. When you are there you get this creepy feeling that you could get a club on your head for disobeying the King or sent to Guantanamo..I am not kidding. - 3 years ago

Don't worry, the US Supreme Court has ruled on that Guantanamo situation (twice) and they have an army. Uh, wait a minute...that would be the executive branch that has an army...on second thought...
Thank you for being there Carolyn. Please be safe but never silent.

Here's the AP picture of Peacewalker. I was behind him and chatted with him on my way back to our buses.
You had the Village of Kennebunkport police there with the Anti Riot Squads i believe they were.
