Don't you just love how your REPUBLICAN Congressperson can say so little in so many words?

Here is my Republican Congressional Representative ignoring the economy, the gas prices, inflation, food prices, jobs lost, the illegal Iraq War, the hundreds of Bush Administration lies, the loss of our liberty under the Patriot Act, the FISA debacle, the unbelievably slim vote over Habeas Corpus that clearly tells you Nazis like Thomas, Alito, Roberts and Scalia are one vote away from revisiting the Gestapo, threats about invading Iran and a gazillion other things to "CONCENTRATE" on the important things like heaping praise on Texas teachers like that old Bush 41 PR "1000 Points of Light" funny business.

Would any of you care to join me as I ROTFLMAO as I do every few days when I receive another "News"letter with such vital and pressing information. A few weeks ago, she devoted a whole newsletter to a story of some people who saved a single West Texas Hawk and who bring it to see her every year in Washington (as the Bush Administration, aided by her votes, plunders the planet with lobby-laden deregulation and extended pollution deadlines).

Way to go Kay Granger! You are certainly immortalizing the complete uselessness and love of corruption so prevalent in your class.

At least Kay donated some $5K in questionable funds obtained from Tom Delay before he was indicted to a local Boys and Girls Club AND only after an onslaught of petitions and news stories pointed out your connection to "Hot Tub Tom". .

    • I do tons of those petitions, Bret! It is a good way to let them know they are being watched but it does little to combat lobby dollars and paid-for elections. I don't dismiss them but letters to the editor and exposing things like this are the meat and potatoes of informing an apathetic electorate.

We owe teachers many things despite the failure of our school systems. Many are absolutely heroic in their ability to instill a hunger for learning especially within the climate they are forced to work.

MM, the thought that we would even entertain the idea of teaching something as radically religious as "Intelligent Design" is as dangerous to our country's future as are the schools that teach fundamentalist hatred of Western culture in the Muslim World.

It is sad that our own religious zealots do not see the denial of science as the first crack in weakening the foundation of critical thinking that has so well served our country thus far.

George Bush and his unholy alliance with the Evangelical Right have done more to destroy this country's values by instilling their special brand of narrow-minded bigotry than almost anything else I can think of.

Their Biblically-unsupported "prophecy of prosperity" and intolerance of others with different views have made divisiveness "stylish".

Get your flag, your cross and your "God Hates Fags" sign and join the Religious Right Wing of the Republican Party.

By just calling yourself a "Compassionate Conservative" you can beat up a gay person, spit on an abortion clinic patient, listen to Lush Rimbaugh interview a hero/felon like Oliver North, rejoice in your SUV tax write-off and maybe even lead the prayer at your kid's Little League game all in the same day!

Oh, I forgot. You can also have one of those arrogant and cranially-challenged "W" - "STILL the President" stickers on the window of your Hummer, too!

Is Republican life good or WHAT?

    • I didn't say I don't like teachers. I don't like those that aren't in it for the love of teaching much. There are some wonderful teachers. There are also the robots that just go through the motions. There are those that won't stand up for and accurate good curriculum. Who else is going to know? My Grandfather was a teacher/principal, my sister was a teacher, I have a couple of nieces that are teachers.

    • Well, Bless her heart, she thinks Texas has some great teachers. I'd like to ask her why they have such crappy schools then? She didn't mention that they are fixin to teach the children Intelligent Design now did she?

    • Thank you for using the word 'class' instead of 'party'. ALL politicians in congress right now are corrupt - I can say that with impunity from one litmus test save one person - Kucinich at least had the cajones to put impeachment on the table. Go Dennis ^_^ I write to my congressmen regularly, but hear nothing in return. They all have failed the simple challenge of living on food stamps for 30 days, they're clearly out of touch with most of their constituency, and thus do not represent the people. Impeach them all, I say.
