Young model, Ruslana Korushova, fell from the sky in NY's financial district Saturday in broad daylight. The situation leading to the fall is still unclear.

From the AP:

"A cover model for European Vogue has fallen to her death from her Manhattan apartment building in an apparent suicide.

The New York Post and Newsday say 20-year-old Ruslana Korushnova died Saturday afternoon in the Financial District. The newspapers cited unnamed officials and police.

Police say the fall is under investigation.

The British edition of Vogue hailed Korushnova as "a face to be excited about" in 2003."

    • If the beautiful young lady had had a face like a frogs backside we would never have heard about it.

      Still sad though,such beauty,gone.

I imagine we will never hear the whole truth about this tragedy

    • I would imagine this is stirring such a rise (and current picked it for their news show, ahem) because no one can imagine why someone beautiful AND successful AND in a relationship AND in America would commit suicide. If it was in fact a suicide, that's a hard slap that most death-terrified worker bees dont want to take lying down. It goes against everything this country is built on telling you that you must have to be happy.
On the other hand, I'm not so clear on the fact that this was a suicide. Just in my personal opinion. I snooped around a bit and it doesnt sound like she was quite ready to go, and the situation is all too cut and dry - empty apartment, netting around the fire escape 'intentionally ripped'.. Looks deceive though..

    • How awful. At 20 years old, she was still just a kid. Poor thing. She had no idea that she may have had a wonderful life ahead of her. I'm not at all a religious person, yet I feel compelled to pray for her soul. May she be blessed.

    • I'm surprised more models don't commit suicide. The pressures they're put under from an early age and the fashion hothousing that goes on isn't exactly a balance education.

Model agencies should be under obligations to send all there models to the top schools and also not put them on the runway till their 18.

You could say the same thing about Olympic Gymnasts also since they're under loads of pressure before they're 16 and they don't have a high suicide rate.

That's not the only generalization since it hasn't been proved that it was suicide yet, they're still investigating.

    • No, what's really tragic here is that young people commit suicide all the time, and nobody ever hears about their story.

    • Known faces get news time. Unknown do not. There is no need to pretend as if that's not how things are.

Any any case even if it's a known face it's still sad what has happened. A life is a life no matter.

    • It was strange how I was watching Spider-Man 3 (a model falls out after a crane collapses, and Spider-Man saves her) and then I see this when I log on.

Sadly we don't have a Spider-Man out there watching out for us. If it was a suicide, it should be a private matter. It'll all be sorted out.

To everyone complaining how this makes news, just vote it down and move on. Commenting only boosts the story up.

    • The wind probably blew her off.

In all seriousness, though, it's sad and just shows that being a stick thin 'beautiful' model does not equal happiness. Learn, girls.

    • its a tragedy that she commited suicide, but is it only harboring news because she's pretty. and if so that unfortunate because im sure at least 100 non models died the same time as she did, but her death seems more news worthy....unfortunate how vanity rules all in this country

    • what a thing to say - 'chances are she was regretting her decision on the way down'.. what a presumptuous violation of a young woman's final moments that are utterly mysterious at this point.

It's true, it was a presumptuous thing to say. The reason of her death is not clear. It was kind of a brain fart....

In the past I knew someone who, without any tell tale signs, just jumped off of a 43rd floor balcony. It facilitated a lot of different discussions amongst me and friends of mine. Most of us agree, that, when we stand on a high balcony, we sense this weird curiosity to jump, or wonder what it would be like. One of my friends offered an interesting question. If you were serious enough to commit suicide by jumping off of a balcony... do you think you would regret it on the way down? I think... yes.

But again... presumptuous of me to say... I apologize... and I thank you for keeping it real.

    • i agree it's sad, tragic even. i don't want to be disrespectful but why does her death matter so much? tens of thousands of people die around the world every day. genocides? wars? just let celebrities be, they are just people who generally happen to be 'beautiful'.

So true, I hope the police can get to the bottom of it all. I don't know what would be worse, if she had taken her own life, or if someone had taken it for her. Either way, an deniable waste of talent.

    • A friend of Korshunova's said she seemed to be having the time of her life of late, and couldn't seem to believe she would want to kill herself. She had just returned from a modeling gig in Paris and seemed to be "on top of the world."

The Vogue cover model, who had been sending money back to her parents in Kazakhstan, was 'in love with the city' of New York.
