But no one blew into the noisemakers for nearly 15 years. When someone finally did, the shrill, windy screech made the spine tingle.
If death had a sound, this was it.

Creepy stuff but very cool! It sounded more like shrieking than anything else. I like the frog one the best!

I doubt that these are the first replicas in years. The whistles have been sold like traditional folk art, so it is unfair to hail this musician as a groundbreaker.

You know.....if all of you watch the video......thats not the actual sound....no one listened to the regular ones. These were replicas. Possibly bad ones....I'm not saying it's wrong and i find this cool, but with some of the pseudo-anthropology going on lately maybe we should be a bit more careful.

Damn, man... I'm going to bring a recording of those to an nighttime airsoft game, just to see the enemy team run out of their tents clutching their assault rifles in fear with eyes the size of dinner plates.

Maybe the person was just a very good musician and wanted to be buried with his instruments.

I've heard these before; my parents have their own collection from various visits to Mexico. To me they are less chilling than nostalgic. I still remember reaching up into their display case and trying each one of them. The gritty clay texture and coolness upon my lips. Earthy memory...

Here, I always thought the sound of death was Biz Markee ragging 'but she says he's just a freind...'

That must have been the last sound that human sacrifices heard before getting chucked into the Volcano.

Wow! To me it sounds like the soul leaving the body and based on what shape your soul was in, the sound varies from being shrill and sharp to gentle and subtle.

The sounds I've heard in some hospitals terminal wards put it to shame. That, of course, is more of an emotional toll it takes on the part of the brain that reminds us we are mere mortals. Up there with babies crying or the sounds I heard from my hampster as she consumed here offspring( at night as I lay in bed with the lights off, 8 years old ).

Absolutely terrifying. Hollywood can try to write the most thrill-tastic horror movie ever but they still will never have anything on Aztec whistles!

This has to be one of the most scariest of sounds the human ear can hear produced by another human's creation.
