Hersh: VP Cheney believes he is going to save the world (part one)

Late last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran, according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the country’s religious leadership. The covert activities involve support of the minority Ahwazi Arab and Baluchi groups and other dissident organizations. They also include gathering intelligence about Iran’s suspected nuclear-weapons program.

    • We better check the real situation first because there are plenty of idiots inside the war and there are many people who are trying to stole the mines while there is war.

Do you think they can follow orders if the order is to keep the issue left behind the bars?

    • dgold, what if your words said this? "United States has a lot of dissidents and a lot of angry people who are unhappy with the regime. Providing resources for them to revolt against a repressive government doesn't seem like a bad idea."

    • DGold, Do you understand they lied about Iraq and they are lying again about Iran? Why can't we mind our own business and let Iran alone to do what they want with their own government? We nose around and put in leaders we want, do you remember Saddam? He was our choice.

It also sounds like throwing rocks at a hornets nest. Stir it up a little bit and you have a swarm of much more angry and now armed people on your hands, we gave the people of Afghanistan arms to fight the Soviets, and now they are killing our soldiers with them. We need to leave the Middle East alone before they decide that total war is the option.

    • Seymour Hersh is the Paul Revere of today! Only thing is, this time no ones paying attention! We are watching reality television as though it's real? It's a distraction, who's the best, who's the strongest, who's the prettiest? Instead we should be focused on our future, paying attention to what is really going on in the world.

Mainstream media doesn't cover the war any more, because people are buying the distractions. We have been in campaign mode for a year and a half. Listening to what everyone will do 'in the future'. They aren't doing it today, why should they be believed about what they will do tomorrow?

    • They'll support the groups that are in their favor now and then turn their back on them. It is the way of government. Any government that is in this spy game. I wouldn't help a government if I were part of any group that they needed. They'll sweet talk you, use you, trash you and then ruin your life. It's not worth it.

    • Do our legislators get special parking for their mental handicaps? They are either the stupidest people alive or the greediest. What are we going to do to stop all of them? Hasn't any of them got close enough to Cheney to smell the sulphur?

    • thought that was what you meant. I think his "save the world" thing is all about trying to make people feel safe with big daddy Cheney so he can continue to do his thing.

    • I mean that he is giving Cheney undeserved credit - Cheney is not trying to save the world, he's simply trying to make more billions through war profiteering.
